He would know.

Joe said McCarthy & Trump destroyed the Republican party.

Joe said the GOP is filled with losers.

Joe said Democrats used to be easy to beat.

God, the arrogance. I have read articles written by respectable journalists and historians (one this past week) claiming the destruction of the Republican Party started when the class of Joe and Newt was ushered in; full of testosterone and ego. So Joe…since you obviously want to talk about it….

Re: all these documents segments, I mean I guess this might be a stupid question, but why is it that so many classified documents in all these discussions are like actual physical things? As in they randomly produced print-outs of this stuff?

Why are they not on some sort of super secret top level protected database? Why on earth would they keep paper copies of stuff out there just like floating around?

or is that paper considered safer? not being snarky, genuinely asking? 🥴

Long fawning interview with Nancy Mace this morning (or Nancy “Grace” as Ari Melber kept calling her the other night) and they couldn’t even be bothered to point out that she voted for the very anti abortion legislation she was complaining about!

Even Andrea Mitchell managed to stammer out that observation on her show today.

Quick FYI here. I worked for the DoD for 30+ years, and I have a lot of experience handling classified material. Nothing about the way these people handle classified material is correct (this includes Both Trump and Biden teams).

The rule is that every item containing material classified as Secret or higher  that is older than 180 days has to be entered into a classification system where it is barcoded and assigned a custodian. The custodian is responsible for ensuring that the material is stored in a certified safe, and inventoried at least once a year.

This applies to all classified items, such as hard drives, documents or pieces of paper. You are correct that it is much easier to maintain control by storing data on computers. If a hard copy is needed, it can be printed, and kept for up to 180 days, at which point it needs to be either barcoded or destroyed. It still needs to be stored in a safe, even before it is barcoded.

When I think back on the amount of time and resources we spent ensuring proper control of classified material, it is extremely aggravating to find out that those at the highest level of government are completely disregarding the rules.

Sorry if I went a little off topic, but I just wanted to provide a little context to this story.

wow this is so much more information than you actually get from watching the show, so thank you cased! Now obviously imagining your super-glamorous DoD! spy! life! complete with martinis, private planes and mongrammed velvet slippers. Man I wish they'd all be more trustful about our ability to process complex information instead of leaving a thousand loose ends

did you guys see this --->

https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/msnbc-daytime-shakeup-hallie-jackson-chris-jansing-1235487583/

I am happy for Chris Jansing bc she is literally my favorite human & she's gonna knock it out of the park. I hope this is a promotion for Hallie tho and the switch to the streaming thingy is something she wanted? Also I hope she'll be back on breaking! news! days! because the Andrea/Katy/Hallie specials are the best.

but anyway the actually relevant part of this --> and I quote....."Jose Diaz-Balart will move from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. as part of the moves. Andrea Mitchell continues to anchor at noon. MSNBC will leave the 10 a.m. hour open until executives decide upon a new host."

oh man, there's gonna be a stretched-out thin-as-gruel fifth hour of MJ, isn't there? 🥴 I love the original but I mean 🥴

Mika in Florida today, Willie remote in the Basilica of the Annunciation. Lemire in NYC, Joe AWOL.

Steve Rattner is on bragging about how he can fly a plane and I'm immediately jealous because I always wanted to do this. I've been traveling a lot recently but tbh even when I'm sick of aiports etc literally lifting off in a plane is my favorite thing ever, I get genuinely emotional every time because the minute you get above the clouds the light is so freakin beautiful.

It's like a miracle you feel so grateful to experience, every single time

Eugene Robinson throwing some shade this morning and I'm here for it.

Mika and Daniela were talking about how Mika is sad about losing her hair and did an article about it or something, but man, I always think Mika would benefit so much and find so much peace from expanding her horizons on these things ----> she has such a huge network and could soooo easily call up the congresswoman living creatively and joyfully with alopecia and still owning her space

https://www.npr.org/2020/01/17/797295985/freed-from-the-secret-rep-ayanna-pressley-opens-up-about-living-with-alopecia

or the congresswoman having to fight for permission to wear a hijab to cover her hair in congress https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jan/03/ilhan-omar-hijab-congress-headwear

or I mean, Symone Sanders was actually on the show today and her close-cropped hair is basically gorgeous and she is a style icon and whose entire being is energy and positivity and intelligence.

ultimately it's always a choice whether television is gonna be a Square of Self-Doubt where one curls up in a fetal position in a corner, or a Space to take ownership of and fill with Joy and Creativity. And a recognition that the ability to do so, in front of millions of people, is an immense privilege.

Bob Woodward & Susan Page are here! Man this documents subject is already tedious but I am so glad to see them both

I am convinced this entire George Santos thing is basically a social experiment.

Like that time Micheal Moore ran a ficus plant for congress

this can't be real

Haha, I wish. I worked mostly in a windowless lab, and had to travel on government contract flights (often Southwest).

Also, to answer your original question. You could make the argument that paper files locked in a safe are more secure than computers.

The DoD maintains two classified computer networks (SIPRNET for Confidential and Secret and JWICS for Top Secret/SCI).  Although these networks are highly secure, I suppose it is theoretically possible for them to be hacked.

However, paper is only secure when it is stored in a safe, and a large quantity of paper files are very hard to control. We are finding out that for both Biden and Trump, the paper files were not controlled at all, and were not locked in safes as they were supposed to be.

Okay I’ve got to give Mika some kudos at this time.

I never know what’s real on Morning Joe, I used to think Mika was kind of play-acting sometimes because it was hard working with Joe, but then she married him so I guess not! Remember how she would like pretend-read? I dunno. Cry-reading etc. who knows. It’s been a weird ride.

I also remember like a decade ago that Mika would kind of idolize some older women and their work, like Elizabeth Warren was a big one for her. And in recent times there’s all this stuff about Mika being a mentor to younger women or at least reaching out and being supportive. So you know, good for Mika for living her values! Not everyone is going to turn around and do that/be that. Sounds like she’s being there for younger women now, and fair play to her.

For someone who loves to insert his experiences into every segment, Joe rivals Al in sins of omission and Joe is almost acrobatic in his efforts to avoid delving any deeper than the 2016 election when it comes to the republican party. His revisionist history on Sarah Palin a few months ago was particularly enraging.

What was up with Mika yesterday? When she wasn't gazing extra-adoringly at Joe she was dismissing half the guests like they just farted.

Guys I have found a crazy golden age MJ clip from 2012 when they were at the “Elephant Bar” and Mika was sitting on the bar being dared by Joe to take a shot and drinking an entire plastic cup full of vodka, drunkenly slapping Mark Halpernin’s hand. Joe says “it’s no wonder Poland lost the war” or something and Mika throws the cup at Joe’s head. She’s yelling “is the show over? Is the convention over?!” Andrea Mitchell is there and is like “I have to sober up in time for my show”. It’s so goofy and I’d love to share it. It’s vintage Morning Joe, everything about it. It’s on my phone! I have cut it down and cut it down and I still can’t post it.

Any ideas how I could get it on here? I have an iPhone, there must be some way to upload it somewhere but I have NO IDEA. You guys would love this.

EDIT: I took a screenshot and I can’t even post my screenshot, it’s too big!

Hey Lowcountry snark! How did you get that to post?  I couldn’t post my screenshot! Mine must’ve been from a different day since Mika had a different outfit on. thank you!!

11 years ago, so Mika was my age now, haha too funny.

I’m up watching Morning Joe and now I think they’re just messing with us! Mika is saying Elise Jordan’s name as “Eleeze”.  ??    Maybe this morning I’ll mispronounce my friends and colleagues names wrong and see what happens.

I was just coming here to complain about her pronunciation of Eleeze!  Last week she kept calling a famous political analyst James Carvel.  Over and over.  Oh, and Mika?  The 1960s called - they want their lipstick shade back.  It was hideous then and on you today, too.

Don’t you need a birth certificate for a passport.

This was actually as mind-bending as MJ giving Trump's $1 mil fine approximately 15 seconds of coverage whilst making sure we knew every one of Joe's thoughts about the charge against Alec Baldwin.

How has Mika never seen her birth certificate? I'm her age and adopted and have lived in a state with excruciatingly frustrating laws and by the time I was 40 was in possession of all my birth certificates.

But she got a Sunday Today coffee mug so it's all good in her world, I guess?

(also not to be Judge Judy and I know Mika is wife #3 but maybe if you're going to talk about all of Joe's kids remember their birthdays...)

Been busy during the week so I just spent Saturday morning watching a whole week of MJ's in pajamas ---> I actually recommend this, it's super cozy.

Also you can just skip through all the boring parts and the yelling, so it only takes about 3 hours to watch about 20 hours of programming.

I basically skipped the endless boring reading of random headlines, the dry summarizing of news that was already on evening shows the night before, pre-packaged stuff, re-runs etc.

For each show that left about 30-60 mins of in-depth intelligent conversation and crazy funny parts. those are the two things I watch for tbh, bc the basics I get elsewhere, a lot sooner and a lot faster. I don't really know why a smart show always has to repeat everything for the slow people at the back 🥴

highlights ---> the discussion with the actors of the Son movie, which made me cry, and the surprisingly insightful discussion on unions.

Oh and Thursday! With Mika in studio with a panel of pretty much all women, throwing spectacular shade at DJT. 😎

Sidenote, are they all ever gonna do a show together again? Joe and Mika and Willie haven't been in the same studio together since November. It's like the "real shows" with all of them are getting loooonger and longer between each one, they used to be worth it but it's almost pointless to wait around for them anymore. At least with Rachel's arrangement she predictably does one real in-studio show every week and the quality is always predictably good

Here for Joe & Willie's Parrot! Trolling! mainly because we got to hear the intro with the Killers twice, I f-ing love them. My only therapy during the lockdown shitshow was putting on Are We Human really loudly and jumping like crazy around the room. I universally recommend this in all situations, its so damn cathartic.

vaguely impressed Joe knows what Wabi-sabi is. And he more or less defined it correctly!

Probably he went to one of Yoko Ono's Mend Piece installations and accidentally crazy-glued his hand to the table #kintsugi

Joe complained about not being invited to President Bush, Obama & Trump's birthday parties because they go after both sides. Mika disagreed and said she was invited to parties.

Mika complained about the documents being left at Biden's house.

Joe was on the Armed services committee & got briefings on North Korea. He didn't disclose the contents of the briefings.

When the story first started she would do whole background reports on what the normal procedures were on sets and how they were not followed.  It was really over the top.  Especially being that she actually had to look into it.  What the heck did Baldwin do to get her panties all twisted up?  It appears too personal.
