I may be wrong, but if I was a black actor & felt slighted by the Oscars, I'd be damned if I'd be PRESENTING that award to one of the white winners.  Just sayin'.

Exactly.  How kind of the Oscars to include black actors by giving them the honor of serving the awards to the white actors.  Like I said-- even more tasteless.

She gave her reasons for being confused:  going through a divorce, cable problems, child support, etc., which could explain her being slightly fuzzy-headed during her first week.

Her first week, how about all...... 7............. long................. years?????

Slightly off topic, but is anyone else wondering what happened to Sarah Palin?

What? Now Im wondering too. :-) What a ditz; but I don't wish her harm. I do wish she'd go away.

When the likes of a Trump makes me agree with Whoopi, well... I hear the four horsemen. :)

Yes, Whoopi was right to call Trump a coward. I don't understand his appeal at all especially to Christians. Tucker Carlson writes that some 15 years ago he made a comment about Trump's hair. In response, Trump left this message -

“It’s true you have better hair than I do,” Trump said matter-of-factly. “But I get more pussy than you do.” Click.

Too bad this happened before Twitter because The Donald would definitely have Tweeted his response.  What a thin-skinned P.O.S.  Unfortunately, I don't think broadcasting this would impact his standing with his followers.  Blech!!!

After the rambling word salad endorsement, I think Trump may have sent her off on an all paid expenses world cruise.  I'm still giggling about the Tina Fey rendition.

You're probably right, but I'm going to miss Tina's rendition of her latest "speech".

This season of Top Chef though aired the first episode the beginning of December.  I'm pretty sure it is filmed in its entirety before it airs.  So she has had at least two months barring any promotional work for the show.  Not sure if she hits the talk show circuit with or without Colicchio.

I still don't know why Paula is so enamored with Trump.

Thanks for the info re: Padma.

My theory about Paula and her apparent support for Trump is that she's just playing "devil's advocate" in a mistaken belief of being "balanced"  because of  course that doesn't make her balanced, but maybe she sees it as balancing the  table?  I don't know, but she seems so stable and the opposite of the angry mob of Trump supporters that's my best theory.   Or maybe I just don't want to believe someone who I've found to seem so reasonable about most things could really think this billionaire windbag as the leader of the free world is a good idea,

Off-topic: NPR's  This American Life had an interesting story about a Cruz supporter with a radio show who is shocked that many of his listeners, fellow evangelicals, are angry Trump supporters.

There has been talk that the Oscars are trying to make the broadcast more diverse by having more black presenters to give the white people their awards (since there are't any black nominees).  To me, that's even more tasteless.  But I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Whoopi quickly fell in line with this idea.  She just hopes maybe they'll pay her to host again if she stays on their good side.

This doesn't surprise me either.  First, it's a paid gig with a HUGE audience and tons of perks and we all know how much Miss Whoopi loves her perks.  Second,  she gets to remind everyone that she has an Oscar!

Even though Whoopi was gone on Friday, I felt like she was still there with all the talk about her and this subject.  Okay, not really because Joy does a good job especially when a guest political analyst at the table just stays for all the boyfriend/makeup talk.  What the hell was that?

I can't wait to see her heartfelt humility when she gets (and I bet she will) a loud Standing "O" at the awards.  Let's hope she wears something beautiful; it happens.

Hahahahaha! Oh yes, Miss Whoopi's humble act.  She should get another award just for that.  And she hasn't worn anything beautiful or even just plain flattering for at least a decade in my opinion.   Since I tune in mostly for the clothes, I'm looking forward to see what kind of mess she does turn up in though.

.

There was...but more focus was on Sherri's comment about Flat Earth when she was first on "The View."  Now she claims that she DEFINITELY knew the earth was round...but she was so flustered by the question and being new that she didn't realize what she was saying.  Didn't she also deny evolution for a long time (maybe she still does)?

Did you notice Sherri the Clown actually used the word, 'evolution' during that conversation in regards to her growth?   She said something like 'evolution happens"

Yes, they did talk about it, [sherri not knowing if the earth is flat] at length, & even showed a clip of when Sherri said she didn't know if the world was round or flat.  She gave her reasons for being confused:  going through a divorce, cable problems, child support, etc., which could explain her being slightly fuzzy-headed during her first week.

LOL MC!  That about sums it up.

Good grief that clown Sherri went on and on and on in response to Joy asking her about what she thought, as a Black actress,  of the all white Oscar nominations.  Sherri's arms still look like she's landing a plane when she speaks too, so I wasn't really paying attention to what exactly she said.  Something about Octavia Spencer winning an Oscar helped her because when Spencer was too busy to take some roles, Sherri would be the next call on the list.  Joy said something about 'sloppy seconds" that cracked me up.

Well, hell must be frozen solid bc I agreed with Whoops. Trump is a coward.

Well sure, but on the other hand that's ALL the mainstream media was talking about [again] all week.  Fox covered the debate but two other cable channels covered his faux Veterans event.  The media is enthralled by this buffoon.

Slightly off topic, but is anyone else wondering what happened to Sarah Palin?

Nope.   :-)

ETA:  Yikes!  Sorry for the dissertation length post.  I love all your posts so much I guess I just wanted to get in on the conversation.

I seriously can't believe Miss Whoopi can't dress appropriately anywhere although she always proves me wrong. And I doubt she'll be asking Stacy London for advice, lol.

But she could wear an evening suit and pretty blouse....more loose than tailored.....and a few accessories. I know....no purse etc.

I just hope she doesn't pull out one of her old and dingy grey scarfs let alone leaves her 7 dwarfs grey hat at home.

Shouldn't be so difficult for a "stah." Especially with her net worth and evidently "clout."

Something about the sex ed discussion Thursday bugged me, that wasn't mentioned here.  If you wait until junior high to teach kids ANYTHING about sex ed, you're giving it too much importance, like sex is some huge secret that you get to learn about when you reach a certain age.  if it's incorporated into teaching kids about health - like diet, exercise, germs, etc - then you're normalizing it as part of learning about your body.    So in kindergarten it's about privacy, but also about naming body parts and understanding that boys and girls are different.   Suny doesn't want her daughter to learn anything about sex  in 4th grade?  Ok, but does she know that some girls start menstruating around age 10? even if YOUR kid doesn't, it might be good information to have when another girl is talking about her period.   If we make sex ed a normal thing that we can talk about, maybe kids won't be so afraid to ask questions about puberty, contraception, etc.

I was also bugged by Stacey seeming, to me, to be shaming women for their workout gear.   First of all, I don't find those skin-tight leggings very comfortable to exercise in, and I would feel very self-conscious wearing something so tight.   I go to a gym.  I work out on weight machines, and cardio machines.   I do not need to worry about someone leering at my ass.  I wear looser exercise clothes, and yeah, a longer t-shirt. I have a few old t-shirts with bleach spills, paint splatters - they're now my workout clothes.   So what?  I'm at the gym to WORK OUT.    I'm not making a fashion statement, not there to attract male attention.  I exercise, shower, then go home and put on clothes I want to be seen in.  Personally, I don't think patterned skin-tight leggings look good at many people, but I'm fine if that's what you want to wear.  I just didn't like the tone of the segment - mocking women who wear black and grey workout clothes.

LOL @ Seven Dwarfs hat maggiemae!  I remember seeing a pic of her and tuxedo-ed Harry Belafonte at the AmFar Gala where she was actually wearing her dirty grey scarf and grey hat.

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of hot mess she looks like on the red carpet this year.   In case you forgot or missed it, here's what she wore at the 2014 Academy Awards, earning her the title of Worst Dressed by the Huffington Post senior fashion editor.  Plus, Julia Roberts wore something very similar [minus the striped tight and ruby heels] at the Golden Globes, so I'm not sure why Whoopi (or any woman really) would set herself up for the kind of comparison.

As if she doesn't already to enough to beg to have a Kansas farmhouse park itself on her ass, she actually dressed the part as well for worldwide televised events?!

Maybe this year she can dress as the other Witch and the press corp can be provided with buckets of water.

I guess I have a huge problem trying to make any sense out of the devil's advocate as Paula's role vis a vis Trump.  Granted, I don't see any logic in her in that regard so maybe she thinks she is simply sparking. If she is playing devil's advocate I still suggest she take the earpiece out and start actually reading what the man has said and is saying.  To me, while still a league apart in terms of hideousness, it would be like going to a dinner party with a bunch of strangers and trying to break the ice with "I've devoted my life to spreading the word on all the good things Hitler did for Germany and the world."

I was a bit too annoyed with the sex education chatter.  I had it taught to me in fifth grade and it was awkward.  But it is going to be.  My parents had already discussed stuff and we had horses growing up, so I knew the generalities already.  It is odd what can stick and what can still go over your head.  But looking back what I realized is that it put my peers and I all on the same playing field.  Yes we were all maturing at a certain rate, but I don't think it titillated anyone.  Actually I think quite the reverse.  It prompted a kind of wary respect knowing what everyone else knew.  I think one of the worst things of my grandparents generation was that as sex before marriage became much more common, or at least people were aware it was happening let's say, was that there was a segment that knew more.  This not only could lead to one person taking advantage of another, but more commonly it simply gave this huge allure to sex that education can remove.  Sex is great of course and allure just fine and dandy.  It just should cloud the issue when you haven't even shed your first pubic hair yet.  Let alone lead to pregnancy or disease or simply an emotional stunting in regards to the act of sex.  But anyone who is out in the world and entering into being a young adult needs to make sure there isn't someone else who has the advantage in any way.  Whether it is sexual, creating a false sense of mystique or simply providing false information.

But you have CCB as a paid member of the panel acting like seeing the hole in the sheet she cut for her kid's Halloween ghost costume gives her the vapors and is too reminiscent of her wedding night!

I kid.  I doubt Kirk Cameron's sister celebrates Halloween with a ghost costume.  Satan!

Oh, isn't Candace just the specialist snowflake, ever?! She went all by her itty bitty widdle self and rode the train, that mode of transportation that is the considered the den of all sins and evuhl and SURVIVED! And next, it will be the...BUS!!!

I fast forwarded a lot of that dreck. Beccause I am so not interested in how Candace gets to the show, or how she feels about public transportation.

And this show is not a show about making sure they are "fair and balanced." It's supposed to be about the different views or opinions of the hosts. Sometimes they all agree and sometimes they don't. Nowhere in its premise or over the years, have I seen or been told that they have to be fair when ripping into narcissistic, racist, bigoted assholes.  And it's always the men that I see gets this special dispensation. Never the women. When they pile on, they ALL pile on.

That said, Paula can just STFU. Trump's followers are the same kind of people: racist, bigoted assholes. Why does he or they need defending? I wonder, if some man was spouting such hatred and actually caused his followers to kill in his name, based on the hate he was spewing, would she try to "be fair" and try to explain why he's so revered and loved? Has she not heard what Trump has said about women? Last I checked, she was a woman. This isn't a news program, so she can't use her "title" of a journalist to be "fair" or objective. If she had any integrity, she'd come out and say what she really feels: she likes that blowhard and agrees with what he's saying. Not hide behind journalism and whatever else.  There isn't one single redeeming thing about that asshole and he's very dangerous and the fact that the media lets him get away with it, is shameful. If they would all just ignore him, he wouldn't have gotten as far as he had. But, then, there's "ratings!"

What else happened on Thursday? I forget.

Friday: Sex Ed.  JEEBUS CRIPES.  I learned about sex education in the fifth, eighth and tenth grades.  The first, we learned about our bodies-menstruation, etc. I remember, before the sex part was taught, we were watching a movie about cell reproduction, and the movie segued to what happens when the sperm injects itself to the egg. My teacher quickly turned the movie off, saying that portion would be taught later. And guess what, Candace? BEFORE my teacher could teach us the sex education, they had to get permission from my parents, allowing the school to teach it to me. Now I'm first generation American. And my mom was backwards about all things boys and girls. YET, she and my dad both signed the slips. So unless that part of teaching this, has been removed, Candace can just STFU.  I'm going to assume because she didn't go to school, that she doesn't know about that. Or that she's stupid for not looking it up to find out how the schools are going about getting permission to teach it. I'm going with the latter, since she loves to be all holier than thou.

And for those that didn't want it teached? Well, they were excused and didn't have this "shoved down their throat."  Even in eighth and tenth grade, we still needed signed permission forms. My schools didn't wily-nily decide to teach it without asking if the parents were okay with it.  This was in the late 70s and and early 80s.  And on the East Coast. That said, they never preached abstinence or even touched on masturbation. But they did, in the eighth and tenth grad, emphasize the use of condoms and safe sex, since this was shortly after Rock Hudson had come out and revealed he had AIDS.

I wonder if Sunni is the "do as I say and not as I do" kind of parent. I'm not throwing stones or anything, but did she also practice abstinence herself?

And yeah, I've seen her on Chopped and her hair was a LOT better than it has been on this show. What has she done to it? And the make-up isn't that great--she's using foundation to make her look...less Latina, in my opinion.

I don't believe Sherri's excuses for her not knowing or not ever giving it a thought whether the Earth was flat or round. She actually thought it was flat, and for something as huge as this, other stuff, like cable or whatever she said, shouldn't prevent one from using their brain. And it's not rocket science.  But then I thought, it's Sherri. She can only think one thought at a time, so it is possible.

That's all I got out of the last two days of the show.

Just like all the Mrs. Trumps...was then, is now, and forever shall be.  It will be the same with any female cabinet members he shall choose.

and...that she had never been on a bus.  A bus!!    Mayabe I shouldn't be so snarky. Mass transportation wasn't much here (outside of Phoenix) in the 70s-80s when my kids were growing up.  I'll have to ask if they were ever on a bus--other than a school bus (field trips).  They walked or rode bikes to school: elementary, high, and college.

Was it Sunny who started with the public transportation "safety" rules?  Including to never touch the pole without gloves on, etc.  She needs to think about The View audience, because, yeah, there are germs on buses and trains.   But there are germs EVERYWHERE.  And her attitude was insulting to people who take public transportation every day.

I was glad for Michelle, who talked about public transportation like it was just part of life, not something that only lowlifes do.

That's a fair point GH, and I don't disagree with anything you said, although Babs used to always cloak herself in a journalist's cape [even though it was see-through and mainly kissed celeb butt ] because she was paid by ABC News, as is Paula (and the rest) but of course The Spew has never been nor will be a news show.

I guess I'm just grasping at why someone I consider to be rather reasonable on most things would be a Trump supporter and came up with Paula deciding to play devil's advocate at the table just for kicks.  I still see Trump as a sideshow that I hope will split the Republican party ala The Tea Party in 2012.   I wonder if the 'establishment' faction of the party have decided that Trump's lack of policy means he would be more malleable than someone like Cruz?   Meanwhile, I consider Cruz far more dangerous in his policies and evangelical rhetoric.

RE: CCB first time on subway.

I believe I heard them say CCB will bravely take the NYC bus alone next week. What a rebel.

CCB is almost 40 years old so I don't think it matters if she spent her childhood being driven to a TV studio instead of  taking a bus.   Everything about Candace shouts privileged and sheltered to me; I don't think her wide-eyed amazement at the world outside her bubble is an act either, she's lived a very sheltered life that apparently is about three things:  the Bible, her family, and Full House, which is also why I find her contributions boring.

Good grief, my mother grew up in a small town, went to college in a small town and raised her family in a small town (not all the same place) and at around 50 she and my father took a sabbatical lived in London for a year. And yet long before smartphones, she managed to go everywhere by herself on the tube and by bus in her pursuit of taking pics of Princess Diana, getting discount student theatre tickets, shopping etc. without "being brave" or calling it an accomplishment.  Pfft.

Hell, if Candace is afraid of the NYC subway now, she would be horrified at my parents taking their two young kids all over NYC via the subway in the 70s, lol.     I loved Sunny telling her she's been doing it since she was 12 though! A true New Yorker.     Maybe Candace can find a couple of ten year olds to help her out as she makes her way around the city?

Ha! I knew someone would throw Bawa up as an example! I was just on a roll this morning, and didn't feel like adding more clarifiers, which would have made that already too long post, even longer! The only thing I like about Paula is that she doesn't let Whoopi push her around. That's it. But her "reasonableness" I find shady.  Because almost always, all her opinions or what she has to say comes from not facts...but based on her faith. That's fine, if it's her opinion. But don't be trying to play Devil's Advocate and cloak it under news, when that's not the case at all as I can see or how it appears to me. Because I don't want anyone to think I am speaking for them. I'm just saying how it comes across to me.  Her assumption that Trump's brand of racism "resonates" with the rest of the sane, thinking world, when he only resonates with kooks and racists who think like him.  And Twitter, Face Book, Instagram give them a platfrom to spew their hatred. When pre-internet, they had nowhere, publicly, to broadcast their hate.

And Candace came thisclose to saying that she looks at potential presidential candidates to see if they have the same faith as hers, totally making a liar of herself, when she was nodding her head that she does agree with Separation of Church and State. Which she clearly does not. Using buzz words like morality, and euphemisms like "foundation" just made me roll my eyes. Religion, no matter what the religion, has no PLACE in politics, with respect to passing laws, legislation, etc.

Was it after 9/11 that gave birth to this? That people voted in the kooks politicians who were racist, misogynistic, Bible Thumping, religion perverting assholes into office? Where the lot of them are lying hypocrites themselves?

And to be clear: I think both Trump and Cruz are dangerous. It's just that, because Trump gives them ratings, instead of being shunned as he should be, and is seen everyfuckingwhere, that I used him as an example.  But I loathe Cruz as much as I do Trump.

Going WAY back, I remember being taught sex ed in sixth grade (girls only, God only knows what the boys were up to), mostly stuff about menstruation.  This was in the late 1960s. In 9th grade, in 1972, at Maine South High School (alma mater of Hillary Rodham), it was a mixed gender freshman class, taught by one of the athletic coaches, and it was pretty intense. I still remember things he taught us (and one of the boys guessing that a woman expels two gallons of blood during her period). I have no idea if my parents had to sign permission slips or not.

My point is not to entertain you with memory lane, but to show that sex ed was taught routinely in public schools 45 years ago, and no one went to court or said it wasn't Christian or whatever Candace's beef is. It was pre-AIDS, but I remember a gruesome and intense few classes on gonorrhea and syphillis. My mom had explained the nuts and bolts of intercourse to me, but I certainly learned more in Coach Brady's class. Glad I had the class, and even happier that my friends whose parents didn't explain stuff to them had it as well. As tentativelyyours said, it evened the playing field, and that's a good thing.

I had to be taught about sex and etc. at a pretty young age due to things that happened during my childhood. My Nana was an RN (retired by the time I found out what an RN was) and would answer any question I had in a matter of fact but understandable way. My Mom did too and what she did was rent this video from Blockbuster that described how babies were made, named the parts and etc. It seemed to answer all my questions since I didn't have anything to ask afterwards and seeing it didn't traumatize me in any way.

Of course sex was never made to be something to be ashamed of and I understood that having it could lead to babies and/or STD's which weren't things I wanted at a young age and the 2nd one would never want. It's just sad to see people who think if kids are exposed to condoms, birth control and etc. that it will lead them to turning into sex monsters or something. I wanted to slap Sunny upside her head when she spouted off that she would be teaching abstinence.  I wonder if she'll regret her choice if she ends up becoming a Grandma in a few years due to her views. She said she's catholic so it made me wonder if she's one of those who doesn't believe in birth control. I would hope that's not the case. She only has 2 kids though so some kind of birth control must have gone on and is still going on somewhere.

I was Catholic (Big Time!) when I got married to a non-Catholic in 1964 at age "almost 24."  During our six required instructions (for the non-Catholic), birth control was brought up.  I agreed without hesitation that I would NOT practice "artificial" birth control.  My fiance` said he didn't think he was bound by rules of the Catholic Church.  All our young priest said was that he had a good point.  Nothing further was discussed.  HE practiced the birth control until we were ready to have a baby.  If there was a sin, it wasn't mine.  I haven't been Catholic since 1965.
