I liked it.  Winston is amazing.  Same story as every episode.  Jess was really funny too.  I agree, quite a few laughs

 

That picture of the fridge at the end of the episode really obviously excluded Coach, though.  I think I missed the text.

I think this episode was ten times better than anything that happened last season.

 

Winston's "FOR MEEEEEE" when he picked up the car, Jess apologizing for army crawling into the apartment to get the gout scooter, and her quiet 'shoot me' when she stood up at the end cracked me up. So did Nick asking the woman he kind of kidnapped why she didn't use the pepper spray on him.

I loved that whenever Nick's kidnapped lady walked away, he wanted her to come back. But I especially loved when he asked her why she hadn't used her pepper spray on him.

 

A feather in a shoe is not at all funny but Prank Sinatra (Ol' Brown Eyes) thinking that a feather in a shoe was so hilarious cracked me up.

 

On a shallow note, Cece looked gorgeous tonight. I was rolling my eyes at the end of the episode when Cece said that since they didn't have her mom's blessing, they couldn't have the wedding their were originally planning. You aren't 18 year old kids getting married in 1950. You are two employed adults in your 30s so you should have been planning to pay for your own wedding in the first place, but you definitely shouldn't have been planning this ridiculously extravagent wedding (although I would like to see people dropping in from a helicopter) if you haven't even informed the person who you assume will be paying for all of this that you got engaged.

I would have thought that Cece`s mom would have at least seen Schmidt, at her other wedding or something.

 

Other than that, good episode! The return of Winstons terrible pranks, the groomsmen, Nick questioning why the woman he accidentally kidnapped had pepper spray and didn't use it, it was a good time.

The way things were going, I was expecting the woman Nick kidnapped to come out of his bedroom wearing one of his shirts at the end.

 

Speaking of, could no one at the party speak Hindi and reassure the poor woman she wasn't actually being held for ransom? There was a whole Bollywood dance troupe!

Is the trope of picking the wrong person up at the airport and the person not speaking English and thinking they're kidnapping you an actual cliche?

 

Because the exact scene was in Arrested Development.  Michael picking up the wrong (Latina) woman.  It's a very, very, very specific trope this show decided to copy.

 

Michael: Hello there. You’re not riding the bus today. Get in this car. I’m not taking no for an answer. Come on, don’t make me get out of this car and put you in here myself.

Narrator: Unfortunately, the woman he picked up wasn’t Lupe, but was a total stranger. And upon seeing bones, a shovel and what appeared to be blood... she realized he wasn’t who she thought he was.

Helen Maria Delgado: Oh, mister, please, por favor, dejame salir del carro.

Michael: This is going to be tricky. I don’t speak Spanish.

Helen Maria Delgado: Yo es scared-o. Uh-huh.

Michael: Izquierdo. I know that one.

Helen Maria Delgado: Uh-huh.

Michael: Left turn it is, missus. They call me selfish.

Narrator: He thought he was helping his mother’s housekeeper, but he had the wrong woman.

 

And after that, the cops arrest him for the kidnapping.

I didn't remember that from Arrested Development (did it happen when the show was on Fox or afterwards when they did the internet sequel?) but I thought the whole bit with Nick kidnapping that poor woman was hysterical. I also loved the mini-flashbacks - they do those so well on the show. Mama P eyeing teen Jess up and down trying to decide if she was good enough for a 20-minute playdate with her daughter. Winston's pranks on Nick (registering him as a sex offender) and Schmidt (the blueberry in the cereal) and reacting the same to both "pranks." One thing this episode really demonstrated is that they didn't need Coach.

Have we seen Frank Melamed's character on the show before? It seemed like all the Groomsmen were a call-back, but I didn't recall him.

 

I don't think so. I was ecstatic to see Robbie. I always liked him.

I loved Robbie too! I love that he seems to bear no ill-will to Cece and Schmidt. I, for one hope the show doesn't decide to go the easy route and change this and make him mean and try to break them up. I like that he is friends with Schmit. I always found their interactions fun. Like. Schmidt's groomsmen is just full of hilarious. I hope there's a bachelor party episode just for this mess of hilarious.

This was good! I laughed out loud several times - mostly the Winston pranks.  The "lone blueberry in the cereal" prank cracked me up. Oh Winnie the Bish, I heart you.  Nick picking the wrong woman up at the airport was hilarious, too. Now that you mention it, I do remember the similar storyline on Arrested Development. Funny then- and funny now!

 

I hope they can sustain this level of comedy throughout the season. It will be interesting to see what the addition of MF will do. I don't have high hopes, but would love to be pleasantly surprised.

Wasn't she though!  I was like, damn, they really found the perfect actress to play her mom (although was that woman old enough to be  her mom? She looked to be in her 40s....)  Both gorgeous women though.

Earlier in the series, they pronounced Cece's last name as "Park" even though it has always been spelled "Parekh". This episode she became Cece "Pareek". Not a huge deal, but I noticed it.

 

This was a good episode. I do miss Coach a little, but Prank Sinatra is all I need for a good time.

 

ETA: In the episode "Table 34" she introduces herself as Ceclia Park. I was dying trying to find the exact episode.

Okay, that dance number was perfect!  That whole storyline was perfect!  Yes, there are multiple Bollywood dance troupes in most major cities, yes most of the dancers would be non-desis.  And the song they did was HILARIOUSLY INAPPROPRIATE!  It's from a movie called "Dirty Picture" about a dancer/soft-porn star who was in a lot of dirty pictures.  So while Schmidt thought he was being romantic and respectful and wooing Cece's Mom, he was actually comparing her daughter to a famous sex symbol who killed herself.

Ha that just makes it even better!!

In Schmidt's defense, he had nothing to do with the song choice since Jess was the one who booked the dancers. Not that Cece's mom knows that, but still. It's not often that his assiness or inappropriateness is actually someone else's doing!

It was in the fifth episode.  Of the entire series.  No excuse for a team of television comedy writers to not know about it.  And they're both FOX shows.

I blame the dancers!  They had to know this is not a family friendly type song.  Or maybe we could fanwank that Schmidt was so irritating at rehearsals that they decided not to suggest a different song might be more appropriate?

Maybe she used Park as her name when she was a model. Its easier for people to spell and say and she booked more work with it? That's a stretch I know, but it could work.

 

The one thing that always amazes me is that flashback Cece is such a spot on match for Hannah Simone. Its amazing how great the casting director did with that one. That girl is nearly identical.

Yes! They've used the same girl consistently, but I think they used a different girl for "teen Jess" in this episode than they have in the past.

I don't really think they need an excuse, or that this implies lack of memory on the writing staff's part. It didn't even occur to me to consider the airport business a rip off of Arrested Development. It's just a cliche thing to happen on a sitcom. In my mind this is akin to "oh no the turkey is raw" in a Thanksgiving episode: if you have a sitcom, you will probably reuse this premise. And it's on the show to pull off funny or trite with how they execute the lazy plot point.
