1. Yaaaay! Everything they write is great, I can't wait to see what they do with Made in Heaven season 2. Although I am also a little sad that they won't be doing more movies, their last film together was brilliant and almost feels like a companion piece to Made in Heaven, only focusing entirely on Jazz's world and only seeing the wealthy world from a distance. It's called Gully Boy and it will probably be on Prime if it ever stops running in theaters (2 months and still going)
2. There is a very quick flashback in a later episode to Tara at a house party and Karan DJing, she asks him to play some "Bollywood" music, he makes fun of her taste but does it because she tells him it is her birthday. There's no clear time period for the scene, no idea if it was a year before the show started or 10 years. Hopefully the next season goes into more detail about how they went from there to being friends.
3. I finished the whole series in about three days, it's that good. (I also wrote old-school longform recaps on my website, if anyone is interested) The music is mostly new stuff, past 10 years basically, but it only plays in the background, there's no full "song sequence". It's what you would expect, the stuff that would be playing at a wedding dance party. I was hoping for some big name cameos, but I think the biggest name was Deepti Naval in episode 3. All the actors in roles large and small were amazing, but it might have been fun to see some really big names pop-up. Maybe next season.

What's That Book?

I think this might be the Sizzle and Splat books by Ronald Kidd? I also read and loved them in 4th grade!
5. I blame the dancers! They had to know this is not a family friendly type song. Or maybe we could fanwank that Schmidt was so irritating at rehearsals that they decided not to suggest a different song might be more appropriate?
6. Okay, that dance number was perfect! That whole storyline was perfect! Yes, there are multiple Bollywood dance troupes in most major cities, yes most of the dancers would be non-desis. And the song they did was HILARIOUSLY INAPPROPRIATE! It's from a movie called "Dirty Picture" about a dancer/soft-porn star who was in a lot of dirty pictures. So while Schmidt thought he was being romantic and respectful and wooing Cece's Mom, he was actually comparing her daughter to a famous sex symbol who killed herself.
7. Can't resist posting original version! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5XjpV9n25Yk

And also the Indian version of the engagement party performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfFcCwHN0Uw
8. If this is incorrect, please remove the post, but I wanted to put up a link to my blog since I have started reviewing Quantico there, partly inspired by the discussions here: http://dontcallitbollywood.com/category/global-india/quantico/
9. I agree completely. There was a lot of excitement about an Indian actress being cast in an American TV show, and it has been nice to see her public appearances in which she discusses her background, both the Indian film industry and India itself; it would be really nice to get some acknowledgement of that in the show. The opening shot of the show is of her Om symbol bracelet, and that is the only acknowledgement of her religion that has been provided so far. There isn't even an acknowledgement that her relationship to the twins might be different, since they both (well, she would think both, really all three) appear to be South Asian. Or any sort of indication that her parents' different ethnic backgrounds might have played a factor in their marriage. I am hopeful that the exploration of the "missing year" will fill in a lot of these gaps, but even so, there have been plenty of moments on the show that would already have been stronger if her ethnic identity was acknowledged. Does anyone know if there are any South Asians involved behind the scenes? Is there anyone on the writing staff who might be able to bring that perspective into script and story discussions?
10. Rahul Khanna has a recurring role in The Americans, but he's not really a big star, although his brother is and his father is huge. It was weird, because it wasn't promoted at all in India, but maybe that's because it was kind of a dark and violent performance.
11. I actually registered on the forum just to reply to this post! I hadn't seen this video before, but I recognized the song as from one of the all time great musical dance sequences ever put on film, Duppata Mera from Pakeezah. The heroine is a courtesan dancing in the red light district, the cool thing is if you look in the background you can see they created a whole neighborhood on the soundstage, complete with multiple other courtesans doing their own dances in the background.
