Why don't they close down the concession stands and bathrooms during the anthem so everyone is forced to stand up? Better yet, why doesn't every armchair asshole stand up at home during the anthem ins

The season's not over yet.  Las Vegas still has to win a football game.  That's an interesting case there.

I guess I'm not totally against Seattle's uniforms to be honest.  In terms of outstanding when it comes to football, I'm more okay with those than adults playing on a blue-colored football field.

That being said, those uniforms don't really need to show up, period.  It's not 2345.  I do love neon & I definitely love green.  However, I think it is definitely too loud.  Didn't help that they sucked tonight

This years MVP race is tight.  You've got three great potential candidates in Allen, Barkley & Goff.

This week Barkley & Allen did little to help their cause with average or below outings, while Goff (in a loss totally on the defense), had a he'll of a game.

I say Barkley wins OPoY and it's a toss between the other two.  I wouldn't be disappointed in either.

(If Cinci's defense was halfway decent, Joe would be running away w/MVP)

If it happens, while I'd debate it, Jackson winning a 3rd one would be fair enough.  The team is totally different without him.

As for the front-runners, I probably can't argue over Josh Allen winning it this time.  Might be the right call since he might not get there again.  However, if people end up livid that Allen got the nod over Barkley, I think I would definitely feel for them.  Not really (since it's just a game), but I actually would understand their gripe

I watched the Thursday night game between SF and LA Rams and yesterday the game in Cleveland and both those fields looked awful. They showed some close ups and both looked like high school fields after a rivalry game.

Declaimer I am a Bill's fan so I was glad about this. But I was confused when they decided to do an outside kick right at the start of the fourth quarter. I mean it was great, they basically just gave us a touchdown. But it was a weird call for that point in the game, when they were only behind by 10 points.

The reason was due to the fact that they "no longer have a defense" as over a dozen players are on IR.  They cannot stop anybody.  Sucks that they'll go from getting a week off after Week 18 to going on the road somewhere.  Probably the winner of the NFC West or the NFC South.  For what it's worth, Dan Campbell would've onside kicked throughout the entire game if the league hadn't changed the rules.

Speaking of the onside kick: for those that know the answer or the rule, I had a question about it.  After having to declare to the refs/other team the intent to kick an onside kick starting in the 4th quarter, couldn't someone trick the opponent and kick it deep?

I think without seeing the answer, I came to the conclusion of "NO" being the answer.  I think it has to go at least 10 yards, but there's a limit to how far it can go before it's outside of a zone.  Otherwise, I'd kick it deep & hope I can run past the receiving team before recovering the faux onside kick

The Bears and the Vikings are on MNF tonight. I would love to watch but my toleration of the insufferalble team of Buck/Aikman PLUS new episodes of NCIS and Origins makew it a highlight reel kind of game.

Let me reiterate how awesome it has been to NOT have to endure Joe Buck on a weekly basis. Tony Romo is annoying but he hasn't reached the point of making my ears bleed yet...

The Packers' offensive line had kept Strahan away from Favre all game, obviously it was a matter of pride to them, and then good ol' Brett gifted him that sack.  I remember linemen being interviewed after the game and saying things like "it is what it is," but it was obvious they were not happy with what Favre did. 

Something I always remember is that the Packers weren't supposed to play the Giants in the final regular season game.  That was supposed to be a Week 2 game, all of which got postponed due to the September 11 attacks.  If that hadn't happened, the Giants would have finished at Philadelphia.  If all things had been equal, I doubt the Eagles would have gifted Strahan as Favre did.  They would have made Strahan earn the record.

The Pack line may have been holding strong all game, but in that play, Strahan was virtually unblocked which is why Favre was backpedaling.  So they were either all in on it, or things unfolded in one play.  Favre lay down, but he was going down anyways.

Jonathan Taylor may have done something super duper stupid, but the Colts were leading at the time and then gave up 24 unanswered to Denver.  So Taylor’s dumb fumble was a blip in an ongoing disaster for Indy.

Jonathan Taylor's dumb fumble was far from a mistake: It was a thing of beauty.  Total Karma, and to be honest, it resulted in a huge grin on the face.  Thanks, Jonathan!

Though it was surprising I'll admit as he should know better.  Not really that young of a guy and didn't seem to have an ego.  I guess I was wrong.  However, that was not an error, that was a decision he chose to make.

Speaking of decisions, to follow up on the MVP race brought up by roamyn on Monday, I think I probably would have to agree that Barkley gets the OPOY.  Then it's Allen for the MVP.  It's probably not going to be Goff unless Detroit can win (out) with him being a big reason for the victory.

At the same time I'd have to disagree too because Saquon could get the outright record.  If so it needs to be him IMO.  To be fair, Philadelphia won games against several teams (Baltimore & the Rams) in the same exact venues that the Ravens and LA played in when those teams won over Buffalo.  FWIW, AP did not break the record a dozen years ago when he won the award.

I'm not going to be mad at all if Josh Allen still wins it.  It would be vexatious if he gets 90-100% of the votes amid Barkley getting 90-100% for OPOY if he is the new record holder.  However, it's super obvious that Buffalo isn't going anywhere without Josh Allen.  Philadelphia is a super bowl team sans Barkley.  I'd reason with those that would be saddened that it's not Saquon Barkley, but not lose sleep over it.

The answer is No.   Once declared, you MUST onside kick.   You can't do a fake out.   The whole point was to get rid of fake outs to avoid injuries on kick offs.   

Speaking of fake outs -- sometimes Dan Campbell gets too cute and it bites him in the ass.   Like last year when he tried to hide who was the reporting eligible player.   The ref didn't realize it and they got penalized.   Same with the onside kick at the start of the 4th quarter.   Dan going "I'm going to do something they don't expect and is outrageous because that's how you win" actually failed this time.   Going it for in on 4th and short - sure.   Just going with a trick play for the sake of always be doing something unexpected - No.

In the era of the salary cap, never in my life have I seen such a greater disparity between the haves and the have-nots.

Also the quarterback carousel brings another wrinkle.

Cousins, benched.

Winston, benched.

Levis, benched.

Jones, shipped out.

Richardson, benched.  No, starting.  No, benched.  No wait, starting again.

Young, would be benched if Andy Dalton hadn’t had a car accident.

Thanks merylinkid.  Sometimes I'm saddened by the fact that the glory of the onside kick has been done away with.  For the most part, it's a first world problem.  Sure it was great to see Sean Payton get there against Indianapolis in Super Bowl 44.  It was nice to see Pete Carroll attempt one in overtime.  It's not really a big deal.  It didn't have a high percentage of success anyway.  If someone needs several onside kicks to win a game, I guess you don't deserve to win the game.

Man, if Dan Campbell coached the way he does during the Brady/Belichick era, he could do something super clever that would work.  The problem is a smart coach (Bill, Andy Reid, McVay etc) would prepare for anything to where some trick would totally fail.  Great guy, love the risk taking mentality, but it's super known so he might want to adjust since nobody is going to be surprised by it.

 

On a totally different note (and a totally different Campbell), Campbell's time in San Francisco is officially over.  In what I hoped would be the action taken by the 49ers!

To be fair, I think Todd Bowles needs the Bucs to win the division more than anyone.  However, I think he's safe so as long as they don't end up with a losing record.  Which would actually shock me.

Not a total lock toward the division, but I think even if they fail to win the NFC South, they should get into the playoffs.  The only legit test left for Tampa Bay is a road game against Dallas.  Say what you will, but they've been a little better than before.  Keep in mind that Washington still has a playoff spot to obtain.  They probably can't pack it in if they don't survive against Philadelphia.  A second consecutive loss to Atlanta helps the latter but it would also benefit the Bucs.

At the end of the day, Baker and company should be fine for the playoffs.  While losing to the Cowboys is far from popular, just do not lose to the anybody else.  After all, Tampa is the one team the Eagles do not want to see.  I think Philly might be more worried about the NFC South champions than Detroit is of the soon-to-be eventual NFC East champions.

Strahan was unblocked because Favre called a play where the protections weren't right for what the defense was doing. That's the issue more than his laying down, which as you said was going to happen anyway. I always thought Favre did that because he expected that he was going to get sacked at some point in the game and he wanted it said that he "gave" it to Strahan. And he got what he wanted. A typical unclassy move on his part, but Favre has always been a dude with no class, and ultimately no ethics.

I remember when he finally retired and he did.....nothing.  Usually retired players go into broadcasting or coaching. He did analyzing for one college game and one pregame of a SB. I thought to myself everyone must think he is an asshole like I do.  When the welfare scandal broke a few years ago I was not surprised in the least.

To be fair The Eagles were missing a ton of players in that game. Including AJ Brown ,  Devanta Smith , Lane Johnson,  . I don't know many teams that can win without their WR1 WR2 and one their best offensive line players

 I'm not taking  anything away from Tampa I'm just saying they would be playing a completely different Eagles team now.

I'm not going to lie to you, I'd rather talk about the Kansas City Chiefs winning 3 (or 4 or 5) consecutive Lombardi Trophies than spending another second talking about Aaron Rodgers, period.  In talk, I definitely mean non-stop Super Bowl talk with the champs.

If the sports media wants to show the greatness A-Rod once showed in Green Bay so be it.  However, with the two options being a world where No 12 never existed VERSUS a world where Kansas City wins the title and nobody else, I'll be signing up for the latter.  Speaking for myself, and you can throw in 12 seconds about the New England Patriots and their 20 years of winning.

It will be even better if we could apply this type of logic about Aaron Rodgers towards that idiot Jerry Jones, his very stupid son Stephen Jones, & the Dallas Cowboys. Granted with that, we will have to find someone else to hate like the Cowboys. But, it'll be pretty easy figuring that part out.

As for tonight's game between the Broncos - Chargers, Meh....

It’s actually a pretty important game between two teams that just don’t move the national needle.

If you stood in front of me and said you have to tell me the name of the Denver Broncos quarterback or I will steal your new cat … well sorry Cooper it was nice adopting you but you are no longer mine.

Probably not ideal for whoever the AFC North runner up is, but LA overcomes their beatdown (from the Bucs) by winning in an epic way (including a 57 yard free kick for points).  Denver goes the opposite direction as a result; both teams are 9-6, and they could win out.  I just refrained from saying should since Cincinnati could win out.  The Bengals chances are on life support, but the Broncos, who they host one week from Saturday, are the only team they can surpass if they want to play decent January football.

ETA: The Bengals also need both Miami & Indianapolis to lose out so it's over for them.  However, the chances of the AFC North second place team dropping all the way to the 7th spot is actually a possibility

If the stories about him are true he’s dumb as shit (Favre). A backup quarterback to him told the story of him being pulled aside many years into Favre’s career. Favre asked “Hey, when coach talks about nickel defenses and dime defenses what does that mean?”  It apparently wasn’t a bit, he genuinely didn’t know. That he played so well while being so dumb is a testament to something.

I'm not making any excuses for Pittsburgh, but the structure of their schedule being completely a schedule from hell is a fact, period.  Maybe not, but the world will end before someone comes up with any of the other 31 teams that have it worse.

Plus, it could mean that Baltimore is in the same or similar spot Tampa Bay was in 4 years ago.  Something I noticed & focused on for more than a minute back in August
