Bad lip reading is hilarious!

I will watch it again and I am sure I will laugh out loud just as much!

Rare book specialists and librarians felt their skin crawl when that 1902 newspaper volume was dragged out ("oh, it's wet") and opened on top of the charred wood.  Digitization, guys -- please get a grant and get that thing preserved!

Rachel is on Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show," tonight, Thursday.  On her own show this evening, she showed the shoes she will be seen in:  black with white trim.  Others may know if they were Nikes or Adidas or...  She also showed a clip, in which she is quite energized.  And it looks like there might be a bartender moment?

Friday (tonight) was an unusually boring show.  I blame the live TrumpFeed.  Let it go a little, MSNBC.  I was just fine with not having the Friday News Dump, and she sent us to prison just fine, so the last five seconds were good.

If Rachel is right about that guy beating Rand Paul in the KY Senate race,  I will love him forever.

She wasn't right about Rand Paul dropping out though.  Kentucky is letting him get away with running for both the Senate and the Presidency.

I wonder how it is even legal that Rand Paul is paying the Kentucky republican party $250K to make this change for him.

Besides, he's wasting his money because he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the republican nomination and even less of becoming president.

But, oh how I hate that Rachel has to eat her words.  She seemed so sure he would never convince the party to change the rules.

Who knew he could just pay for the caucus....and that no one would show up at the meeting.  Seriously, only 1/3rd showed up at the meeting and he's paying for the caucus.  I can't believe that only Rachel seems to be covering it.  Its so corrupt.

I found that Ron Paul staffer/bribing scandal/mysterious vacation gift/house break-in/stolen computer/FBI raid saga just fascinating!

If he is guilty, worst plan ever!  Its so obvious.

Yes, I know that MSNBC has covered the story all day.

Yes, I know it's Rachel's style to cover things that aren't covered by her MSNBC colleagues.

But it's still weird to see her kick off tonight's show with talk of Chris Christie and the Republican debate (again) on a day like today.

(I'm watching online, and I know she gets to it in the 2nd segment, but still. It's odd.)

Really, she does not get to the story until the third segment, after the half-hour.  I also was very surprised; not that I needed to hear the details again, but because I expected some of the Rachel passion on this issue to be at the start of the show.  This was a deliberate decision, and I'd like to know the reason for the order of the stories.  Richard Nixon is always fascinating, but is not breaking news.  Yes, Wednesday's choices were very odd.

I love my Rachel but dear lord, enough with the fussing about how the participants are chosen for the Republican debates. I didn't care about the issue the first time she ranted about it before the Fox debate and cared even less the 43rd time. Now all she's doing is causing me to change the channel.

Yeah, I don't get this one. Definitely like beating a dead horse at this point. I'm not going to cry over these jokers not getting into a "debate". Poor little Rick Santorum and Carly Fiorina. F 'em.

The point is that Fox News is interfering in the selection process.  People in the top ten are getting a bump, and the electoral process is getting the finger.

And yeah, I don't specifically cry about this set of kiddie table kids.  Carly Fiorina was widely loathed by her employees as well as her BoD at HP, Santorum is Santorum (the gentleman from Pennsylvania domiciled his large family in Northern Virginia and pretended to maintain a permanent residence in PA - mostly unfurnished), the others I can't even name without looking them up.  So what?  Primaries are for the voters who show up to make the choice from a ballot derived from people who file, campaign, and generally go through the scrum.  They don't need to be pre-digested by a television network.

ETS: sorry, I should look up slang before I use it.

Does anyone else get annoyed when Melissa Harris-Perry guests on this show and makes it a mini-version of her weekend show (which I thoroughly enjoy) - I find it unsettling because it's not the venue.  I feel the same way when Kournacki guests.  It always feels like they switch the show to their own production teams and it completely loses the feel of it being Rachel's show.  Ari Melbar does a better job of keeping it "Rachel".

I am really hoping Rachel will devote a snippet of time this week to the renaming of Mt. McKinley in Alaska to Mt. Denali, as Alaskans have long called it.  She can get into the long-term resistance of the Ohio delegation to this name change, Ohio as a swing state, and Speaker Boehner's disappointment at the renaming (President McKinley having Ohio roots), as well as cover a little of the President's trip to Alaska, where she broadcast from a bar back in 2012 (?).  This seems like a perfect piece for Rachel, even if it is short.

Yes, I could totally see her opening the show with a picture of President McKinley, and meandering her way to the mountain.  We'll see!

I only wish he'd named it Mt. Barack just to see ALL the heads explode.

I do believe in some corners of Congress, they believe this is basically the same thing in terms of dissing Republicans and Ohioans!

Do the not-stupid republicans not answer the phone when the pollsters call? I just can't believe this birther shit is still out there. I'm glad Rachel talked about this but it makes me sad, in a rage-filled way.

I shouldn't have been that surprised that so many Republicans still don't believe that the President is a Christian but I still am.  Though....to be fair...its Republicans who answered the phone but still.

Heh, wow, Rachel predicated that Kayne was going to run for President.   And, I admit, I did start to giggle whenever Rachel tried to say PPP.   Pee pee.  Hee.

I only wish he'd named it Mt. Barack just to see ALL the heads explode.

He should rename National Airport that...that would cause the most distress.

Giving the Mountain back its rightful name is something that people in Alaska have wanted for all long time since it is their Mountain and it means a lot to them so logically it was the right thing to do.  But I bet a part of him really loved upsetting the Ohio Republicans that much.

Congressional republicans are all about local control and states' rights -- as long as those things dovetail perfectly with their desires and beliefs.  If they don't, then it's on!   Limited government -- unless it's for their pet projects and beliefs.  Libertarianism - as long as it's for the right liberties.  Can't let folks (or states) choose for themselves.  Congress will tell us what to think and do. We are incapable of determining for ourselves.

My favorite objection to the renaming came from a republican - I think it was Kasich.  He said something to the effect that Mt McKinley was named that because 'the first man to see that mountain' thought it was great and wanted to honor President McKinley and we have no right to interfere with a hundred years....etc' The first man to see it.  The first 'white man' to see it maybe. Obviously those are the only men that count, right?  Men (I use the term generically) who are not white and who already named the mountain for hundreds of years are of no consequence in republican world.

If both the Alaska US senators, both republicans, have been supporting the name change, why is it that the republicans who don't have a horse in the race, have to complain and act so insulted?

Oh, you know why.  If this president had decided to change the name to MCKINLEY all in CAPS, there would be an outcry.  Whatever the president does, the Republican caucuses sprint to the other side of the room.

It did jolt me a little when Rachel said "mishegas", but once she said "kosher", I knew that she was heading for the gefilte fish pond!  Some lucky staffer/intern got to run out for the giant size of gefilte fish jars for a great visual aid!  By the way, I like it when Rachel does the handoff to Alex Wagner -- they both have good temperaments.  (Every time I say "mishegas", I get complimented or quizzical looks, and I like the word!)

And thank you Rachel for the segment on Jimmy Carter and "decent people" and "most people are *great*!".  That was lovely.  As was the interview with Senator Amy Klobuchar.  I needed an informative and somewhat congenial show.  This one goes on the iPod!

I was kinda hoping President Obama would further comment on the name change and jokingly say something like, "It's all part of my plan to get myself elected to a 3rd term."

Then I'd sit back, grab some popcorn, and watch a lot more Republican heads explode.  ;)

I'm glad that Rachel did the story on what asses Cruz and Christie are. I don't remember it getting a lot of coverage at the time in the media.  And, it kind of does make a difference - its not just them being jerks.  Part of being President is being a diplomat and if you can't hold off on making jokes about people when their son has just died or they have announced they have cancer, then IMO you should not be President.

Of course, the Cruz story shows exactly why he will not be President.  People hate him.  Especially his fellow Senators.  And if your own Party hates you, I don't see how you can get the nomination.  I know McCain wasn't well liked but its nothing like how people hate Ted Cruz.

And awesome statement by Walter Mondale.

I heard an interview with President Obama on NPR this morning, and he flat-out said, "look, there is a sizeable proportion of the Republicans in Congress who are just determined to make sure that they oppose anything I do."  And this was not about Mt. Denali (hurrah!), but Iran.  What a tough gig.

Every now and then, I am glad we live in a time when "asses" is permitted to be said on television.  Because sometimes, it is the right word.  And it is not just that Jimmy Carter has cancer, but that he is in his nineties with a terminal cancer diagnosis, and HE WAS THE PRESIDENT OF THESE UNITED STATES.  The job these asses want.  Thank you, Walter Mondale, and I'm glad you are not only alive but kicking asses.

Okay, we are two minutes into the show, and already gold:

"I know, hard to believe it's makeup!"  (said Rachel, batting her eyelashes)

And the RED RED ribbon running "BREAKING NEWS" is hysterical and ironic:

>>BREAKING NEWS<<  COLBERT VS. BUSH IN FUNDRAISING FLAP

>>BREAKING NEWS<< COLBERT ISSUES CHALLENGE TO BUSH

[Later:]  President Obama, wolfing down salmon jerky and trying to get the Secret Service to return the fileting knife to the Alaskan fisherwomen so he could see them filet a salmon. ("We don't have them," said the Secret Service guys.  "Aww, c'mon," said the Harvard graduate.)

Live salmon still wriggling, spawning on the President's shoe.  "He was happy to see you," said the fisherwomen.

I get the feeling the President may be rethinking the location of the presidential library.

Exceptionally good show. Usually I just watch once and delete, but I watched the Colbert segment twice. It was a dick move on Jeb's part, but I'm not as outraged as many seem to be. Maybe because I don't really care about Colbert, but I can't muster up the anger, and I really dislike Jeb. Maybe in the morning I'll have more energy.

Glad there was no coverage of that asshole in Kentucky refusing to issue marriage licenses. I'm sick of that bigot's face on my screen and I don't want Rachel to cover it unless it's about the impeachment proceedings.

Also glad there was no mention of the Palins, even in passing, during the Alaska segment. All in all a much needed lighter show.

Finally, for some reason my DVR tapes the last minute of Chris Hayes' show and wow, does he bring obnoxious to new levels.

I wish some minor official in Kentucky (or anywhere in the United States actually) would refuse to issue a gun permit because the Bible says 'thou shalt not kill' and let's see how up in arms all the religious nutjobs would be. Funny how it's just certain parts of the Bible or the Constitution they think should be adhered to.

Are people outraged? It seems like a hilariously stupid move on Jeb!'s part and Rachel seemed to feel similarly. This is the political version of those "weird news" stories where someone gets injured after stupidly putting themselves in harm's way.

I think the Jeb! kerfuffle isn't worthy of outrage, but shows once again how badly his campaign is managed. Just stupid.

Yeah, it is another sign of how badly that campaign is being run.  I always thought it was strange that Jeb, sorry Jeb!, agreed to be on the show considering how Stephen destroyed his brother at the WH Correspondents Dinner.  They should have been so careful - especially since how did anyone think that Stephen would be ok with using the appearance as a fundraiser for Jeb's campaign.  You just don't mess with Stephen.

Oh, Donald. Messing with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.   Thinking people don't like him.  He's being hearing that crap ever since he was at UCLA. He's was out there busting his buns every night! Tell Trump to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes! Seriously, though, I personally don't care at all about basketball but I love Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.  He was both in the greatest movie ever and also did an amazing job on his appearances on Jeopardy!  And I'm guessing I'm not alone - I pretty sure that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is beloved by many people.

Rachel reports on tonight's show that Trump has spent zero dollars on ads but continues to rise in the polls.

Why should he spend any money when he doesn't have to?  MSNBC (and that includes Rachel) and CNN and I suppose FOX, stops everything to cover every word Trump utters live and as breaking news.

Rachel's whole show was about Trump.  Even dragging Chris Hayes and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on to talk Trump nonstop.

Trump is reaching Chris Christie bridge scandal levels in terms of coverage. The difference is that I absolutely adored every second of that scandal, and Trump is boring me to death. I can't say I'm sorry that he's stealing coverage from more plausible nominees, though.

Rachel barely covers the Clinton email scandal. I would pay to be a fly on the wall in production meetings. I wonder who's pulling the strings there.

Maybe she was not covering the email issue because of the Hillary Clinton interview on Friday?  There is a segment there about email.  But I wondered why an Andrea Mitchell interview is on Rachel's show?  To get it into prime time?  They could have run it in the place of the first hour of 200 Lock!Up! episodes this weekend.  I hate canned shows on Fridays.

Going back to the great Wednesday show to watch the Obama segments again!  I was so disappointed there was nothing about Alaska on the Thursday show -- the President had been dancing with children in Alaska.  And there must have been more salmon.

I think it's because Obama was back in Washington by Thursday morning...

I have to give Rachel credit: I first saw the fish spreading its DNA on Obama on her show. Twelve to 24 hours later, it was all over the blogs.
