Trevor correctly points out why though. The president is the head of state and chief executive, so the mascot stuff is part of the job. It's grown way way out of hand, but it's always been like that. You have play your sax on Arsenio and dance for the masses. It's not like most people are voting in the general election on policy.

I don't know which is more infuriating: the ridiculous shit you have to go through to get on a damn plane or the idiots who continue to say that those measures are "keeping us safe" when the facts indicate they're ineffective.

They missed 67 out of 70 potential threats, but they sure caught me and unpacked my bag for 1/4 of a can of shaving cream.

Sign up for TSA preCheck. It's $85 for three years, and you go in the shorter line, don't have to take anything off and don't have to take out your laptop.

Does anyone remember when you (not as a passenger) could just go to the actual gate and wait for people to get off the plane?

Huh, that pretty much definitively proves that not even the TSA really cares about these "security measures."

I do.  I remember walking people to the gate before their flights.  But, my mum worked for various airlines and I spent a lot of my childhood in and around airports, going/coming from some place or picking up/dropping off people.

Isn't that what the vice-president for? The VP doesn't do much except break ties in the Senate maybe he/she should be a mascot.

The thing is, the VP is supposedly there to take over if the President is incapacitated. If we start choosing VPs based on how well they do as mascots, and then something happens to the Prez.... Not that we are always choosing for the best reasons now, but if we openly decided to go for a ticket which split the governance and symbolism jobs, I'm not sure we'd do any better.

RE bathroom policing, it's been going on for a long time. It's just that now it's being talked about in the mainstream media. Trans people and other gender/appearance non-conformists have always been harassed and tossed out of bathrooms. It's just that now that there is some attention being paid to non-discrimination, there is an attempt to make it formally a rule that such policing is OK.

I read an article about the TSA failures and how they are spending hundreds of millons of dollars to keep us safe. Unfortunately, we were safer BEFORE all these safety procedures. I thought it was interesting though that someone suggested bomb sniffing dogs. Obviously, humans and machines are not effective so I'm all for trained dogs in the airport. The best idea doesn't need to be the most expensive.

In 2000 as a small kid I got to sit in the cockpit of a 747 on the flight back from London to Boston.  I was up there for over an hour getting the full treatment by a flight crew that apparently thought I was entertaining as hell.  I even got to push the fasten seatbelt button, let it on until everyone had to take their seats before turning it back off.  Yeah I was hoot to those other passengers I bet.

Otherwise known as a couple of chapters in the Sarah Palin autobiography.   To fair though McCain thought he was getting the bitchy head cheerleader.  Instead getting the just on the margins popular girl the others let be the mascot because her house has a pool.

Oh! Me too! My parents did a lot of traveling to India, and I remember being able to go all the way to the gate to hug them goodbye and watch the plane depart as a kid.  10 years before 9/11, my friend and I, returning from a student journalism conference, got to sit in the cockpit and play with all the gadgets and get our pictures taken with the flight attendants and  THE PILOT!!! we were so excited, but also rolled our eyes afterward, because they thought this was our first flight or something.

Sigh...I miss those days.

Personally, I don't think the TSA accomplishes anything and they suck.  But, I'm so used to seeing armed guards with rifles and such when I go visit India, that the "security measures" don't really bother me.  But at the same time, they do. Does that make sense? And I'm such an anal retentive person, that I always, always, even for local flights within the U.S. and international, show up 3 hours ahead. So I don't really have to wait in such a long line. I think, since 9/11, I've only been asked to step aside and be patted down twice.  And had TSA ruffle through my suitcase once.  And I'm East Indian. I remember fearing for my dad when he and my mom had to go to India a month after 9/11. But they got through with no additional searches or problems.

i really enjoyed Monday's show. And I really, really wanted to hear Jennifer Hudson sing some more. I just love her. I want to look like her. She looks FANTASTIC. I can't wait till Saturday to watch Confirmation.

And I'm getting sick and tired of Jordan doing all, if not MOST of the field or joke pieces. He's not that funny and I've never really warmed up to him.

I didn't really care for last night's show. I didn't think the CP time bit that Hillary was involved with was all that bad. It wasn't funny, but it didn't indicate anything but that she's not a comedian.

I also found the sexual racism story to be much about nothing.

I didn't think it was that bad either. Here's the thing: don't try to be funny if you're not. This goes back to the mascot concept. We all want the candidates to sing and dance and crack jokes. Most just aren't like that. You want them to be themselves, but the self that you define. That's not fair. Obama is legitimately funny. That's rare. Reagan could actually make some good cracks iirc. They say that about when you have to give presentations or speak publicly. Don't lead with a joke if you're not naturally funny. I'm actually rather good at reading the room, so I typically can open with something that gets people's attention. But if I'm not feeling it that day, I don't. That's the same thing as trying to make Hillary be funny when she just isn't. She's got enough heaped on her unfairly as it is.

I liked the sexual racism piece. Jessica and Ronnie had good timing, and the panel seemed like nice people.

They can't all be winners, but the winners are becoming fewer farther between. I know all the people involved are funny as heck, so I'm chalking this up to growing pains for the show.

As for the racism in dating segment, didn't the Nightly Show do one a few months ago? Or was it TDS? In any case, that subject is very hard to do justice to in a five minute segment. There are just too many variables to cover on a subject as personal and subjective as romantic connection and attraction.

Waiting out on the curb at the airport, trying not to make eye contact with the security guy who is trying to tell you to move your car because the person you are picking up hasn't come out yet, is not nearly is exciting as waiting inside the airport, just outside the gate, with a crowd of other people, all excitedly waiting for their visitors and loved ones to come through the doors.  But, it is all worth it, because it keeps us safe...hey, wait a second.

The comments the people gave (about herpes in black women and the shorter endowments in Asian males) wee racist.  And I am sure there are plenty of people who don't date certain ethnic groups because of something race related, but there are also non-racist reasons why someone might not pick people of certain races.  For instance, a friend of mine used Coffee meets Bagel - they send you one prospective date once a day.  When she set up her profile, she did not select any race, as she didn't care - race was not important to her.  What was important to her was height.  She is very tall - 5'10" - and finds it uncomfortable when she towers over a guy.  It seemed like most of the profiles she got were asian men who were at least 4" shorter than her, without heels.  So she changed her profile to "whites only" because she thought that was her best hope to find a guy tall enough for her.  Soon after, she met her boyfriend through the site - he is a tall Middle Eastern guy, who put his race as white, because he thought it would get him more prospects.

At most airports I've been through you can come in and greet someone once they're off the plane and through any customs lines.  I prefer airports with secure baggage claim areas -- it concerns me when anyone off the street could walk up to my carousel and take my bags.

The story about your friend also reminds me that us guys are not good at reading profiles, or are too focused on the "Lotto gambit" (you can't win if you don't play).

No argument that the myths being brought up were ignorant (I hadn't even heard the one about herpes before last night).

Yes, I would think there'd be a mix. For instance, some white people hate blacks so of course they wouldn't want to date black people. Those white people are racists. But if a white person doesn't want to date a black person because s/he has never met one who s/he was attracted to, is that racist? (A real question)

I hadn't heard of either black women all having herpes or Asian guys all having small dicks. Are those common stereotypes?

I never heard the one about black women either, but I remember hearing, at least 10 years ago, that condoms sold in eastern Asia were smaller than those sold in the US.  Don't know if it is true, but the idea has been around for a while.

Does size of appendages correspond to height of a person on average? That could explain the stereotype. I feel this would be part of some research paper somewhere, but don't feel like looking for it ..

There's implicit racism at play. It's in how we're told, on a societal level, that the the standard of beauty and attractiveness is in whiteness.

Uh, I flew in a Hercules aircraft roundtrip. Does that not count for coolness points?

That whole bit about CPTime was just utterly lame. I get that everyone involved were in on the joke and were cool about it. But Hillary Clinton and Bill DeBlassio were so stiff and lifeless when performing, they could have been cut up and used for firewood. Some people shouldn't attempt comedy and those two were exhibits A and B on why.

He did. But I also remember a TDS piece years ago about how Asian males were discriminated in the porn industry.

But there have been many times when I didn't find a stereotypically good looking (white) guy appealing. Isn't there a difference betw saying, "I'll never be attracted to a black man" and "I haven't yet met a black man I'm attracted to" ? Or does one just assume since this hypothetical white woman has likely seen many different black men that she is racially biased?

Implicit comes from the subconscious.

That, for you, doesn't come from a place of racism. Being attracted to a white person is default for you.

The statements are different, but it can, and does, come from the same place. The second statement would ask you to look into yourself and figure out why you've not met a black man that you're attracted to. Chances are, there's some implicit bias in place that colors what you find attractive in a man.

When it comes to racism and dating preferences, we should never forget that nobody has the right to anyone else's body. A person has the right to their own decisions on who they they want to pursue a relationship with. There are no "buts" about this. Who a person loves is a deeply personal thing and can be (at times) at odds with one's own politics, and/or identity (see: Chirlane McCray and de Blasio).

We're in agreement on that. However, when someone makes a point to say "No blacks", "No Asians", "No dark-skinned girls/guys" (and that's a whole other different subject right then and there), there's some implicit racism in play and they need to get checked.

Checked to what end? If it's to get the bigoted to at least stop being so upfront about, that's very doable though it doesn't solve anything. If it's to get somebody to date people they're not attracted to, that's also not solving anything. Just to shame somebody? Also not helping.

Why shouldn't racist actions be called out and shamed? If you excuse the little racism, at what point do you step in and say "Whoa! That's racist!"?

In the case of policing online dating profiles, it'd be exhausting and would require you to send messages to many, many strangers and share unsolicited judgement. That'd also be cyber bullying, so it might not be a good idea.

Clearly, I've got better things to do than to check dating profiles like that. However, it is discouraging as a single black woman to get the least amount of engagement in the dating pool as a viable partner and knowing full well that skin color has a HUGE part of it (it's not just with white people; it's across the board). In any case, this is derailing from the main point of implicit racism guiding sexual preferences.

Is it racism or lookism, though? Or both? That's where the line gets more finely drawn.

It at least serves as a quick yes/no date sorting device. Like, whether or not I myself meet any of the criteria, it would be an automatic left swipe to anyone who limits by physical characteristics -- weight, skin color, hair color, race, height, etc.

In regards to black women getting the least amount of responses? Racism. We've been fed that black women are either oversexed jezebels who have multiple baby daddies or ignorant, sassy, and angry. Then there's the added colorism aspect that black women have to be light-skinned to be considered attractive.

The important question that I want to know is: Why? Personality-aside, my ladybits are the same as Becky's, so why am I in the "no pile"? Why would I not be considered desirable enough to be a romantic partner?

I don't know anything about your life except what you have shared. What I do understand, however, is not fitting in and being a bit of an outcast. I wish you all good things, and that the world hears and understands you.

I live my life and do me, so I'm good. That being said, this is a real thing and it's privilege to think otherwise. Look at how the media rarely depicts a stable and loving relationship that features a black woman. I have yet to see Match.com feature a commercial with black woman as the one looking for a partner. These things feed into the notion that black women aren't worth looking at, and if they are, it's just for sex.

As far as sexual racism, I thought that they would bring up "gingers" who are either way way preferred by some and way way NOT preferred by many others, and it seems like there's a lot of easy jokes about them. Oddly enough for me I don't care about race but I only prefer dark haired men (I'm white as white can be if that matters) and blonde men are generally unattractive to me (with the exception of Daniel Craig). Not sure if I would ever say "no blondes" but I never did online dating.

Hey, Trump - when you appear in an infomercial for something and rave about how amazing it is?  That's actually what we call an endorsement.  Trevor's curiosity about what happened to all the pee cracked me up.

Kudos to Trevor for capturing all the disgust, outrage, and WTFery that is Dennis Hastert.  The fact that he spent so many years as second in line for the presidency, the fact that someone can be penalized for double-parking or tax evasion years after the fact but not sexually abusing children, the fact that the Catholic Church opposes doing away with the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse... Just awful from start to finish.
