This story got to me, too.  But I was TOTALLY distracted by the actor playing the detective - my favorite TV boyfriend from Breaking Bad, Motive (?), etc.   ;-)

[/shallow]

This was the first true crime show I have seen where I recognized one of the actors as someone I have seen on other things. Weird!!

I know it from seeing it multiple times on Forensic Files. :) I'll leave it to you all to tell me if it was worth a two-hour retelling.

On any of these 2-hour shows, I only watch the second hour, because there's always a recap.
But after reading further posts, I think I'll erase it.  I want to see solved cases, not puzzles.  That's why I quit watching Disappeared.
See No Evil is still my favorite, and I really like Murder Chose Me, and The Detectives Club, both Louisiana.
Real Detectives is another good one, and shallow me, I sometimes watch Killing Fields just because I could listen to Rhodie talk all day.

I remember watching a Canadian true crime show about a dude who was convicted of picking up First Nations women in Vancouver, forcing them to drink huge amounts of booze, then killing them. The killer was played by the weird little guy from The Red Green Show. It is always strange to recognize one of the actors.

Ok. I must say something about the last "Evil lives here". What was wrong with that woman? She kept saying "how could I know"? How about when the women next door was attacked by a MASKED man the the frigging MASK was is in your husbands closet in a shoe box!!!! Had she turned that and her husband in at the time, maybe her daughter wouldn't have continued to be terrorized by him, multiple women would not have been tortured and raped and been murdered by him! Perhaps I am being too harsh and unempathetic?

Oh, and the last Murder comes to town. I grew up in Pueblo, Colorado where the first missing wife and second murdered wife came from. Some claim to fame, huh? Lol

I don't know, I had quite a bit of sympathy for Choyce's wife. Many of the things that she found disgusting and alarming, like his porn obsession, fetish for red lipstick and thigh-highs, and desire to handcuff her, would have led her to be condemned as a prude by today's "sex positive" liberals. She knew he had a proclivity to bondage and fetishization. A mask could have been an extension of that. So, no, I don't blame her for not putting those things together, considering how women are attacked for thinking it's wrong and demeaning for men to fetishize them.

Ok. I apologize azshadowwalker. ?Except, don't forget. The daughter told her mom her dad had been walking around with that mask on that day the women was attacked and showed her where it was in the closet.

I don't need scare quotes around the words; I'm a sex-positive liberal. About as much of both as one can be. And I looked askance at the mother a few times. I thought at one point she said she had no idea, but then at another time said the daughter didn't like being home with the father. And the mask along with the behavior she described, and knowing his taste in porn. Even getting her slant on it, it sounds like she had to suspect something, strongly. I could give her some slack for having reservations about contacting the police because she is a woman of color.

As I listened to Choyce's wife, the only thing I could think about every single thing she brought up a concern she had was how many times I have read or heard a sex-pozzie attack a woman for voicing such concerns. I won't even talk about the men who do, but just the women who support them. So, I can only imagine what the police would have said to her, especially when some of the murders were in the Bay Area. We have seen events at Pride celebrating jail "play" scenarios. It is not somewhere where such concerns would be taken seriously. And, no, I don't think the people who silence such concerns are "sex positive"; I think they are very much anti-sex and in favor of men who get off abusing and demeaning women.

Anyway, it's nice to see women blamed for men's violence. It's probably been 10 minutes since I last saw that. It's the same old thing. A prudish kink-shamer if you say something, a virtual accomplice if you don't.

Right now I'm in the middle of watching Evil Lives Here. I had to pause it and come to this forum to see if anyone else was as freaked out as I am about the consistent under reactions by Choyce's wife. Glad to see I'm not the only one who was horrified by her willful naivety. She had so many warning signs that her boyfriend was disturbed. But she chose to minimize them all. And then she marries him! (This has nothing to do with being liberal or open about sex,  or being conservative or prudish.) I would have been out of the house with my kid after he let on about his fantasy of having sex with his mother - especially after she had seen how his own mother recoiled from his touch. And she should have had some inkling of how terrorized her daughter felt being around the father. And what about the time she comes home and finds him in bed with a prostitute! Sorry but this wife must have serious issues to be so in denial. The person I do feel very sorry for is the daughter. And now back to the show......

I agree with all of this 100%. And hopefully this isn't overstepping things, but one of the best things about this thread is that, in general, I have no idea what anyone's political affiliation is, and that keeps out a lot of divisiveness IMO. I like that we tend to just stick to the crimes themselves and how we feel about the actions of the people, and don't drag in any derogatory labels based on political leanings. I mean, I have plenty of other forums to do that in. :)

The woman just read as weird to me for the reasons described above, period.

Tonight's Web of Lies "The Child Network" about a web-based adoption process.  Whoa ... just unbelievable this crap happens today.  But the running joke between me & my significant other is "Well...if it's on the internet it must be true!"

Years ago I was very active in a local Airedale Terrier rescue group.  Having been born & raised (and being the proud "caretaker" at the time of two Airedales) I was asked by the head of ATRA (Airedale Terrier Rescue Association) if I would do "home checks" on prospective adoptions.  Can't even begin to tell you how detailed it was (about 4 pages)!  You mean to tell me this doesn't apply to CHILDREN?!?  And that young cop that did the "wellness check" --- what a flunky HE was!

One more thing....not sure if this is a Comcast cable thing or not, but can I mention how sick to death I am of the constant same promo for this show?  Woman trying on a red dress & the perv watching her from her open curtains??  (& she texts him "I thought you were watching me")   Okay...I watch WAY too much I.D.!  (Who's fault is this?)  ha!

Edited by Maizie131
That woman who "arranged" that "adoption should be drawn & quartered. Okay, her heart was in the right place but her brain wasn't.

I was screaming at the TV too, Maizie.  How did this "arranger" not CHECK?  How did NO ONE check?  It would have taken 5 min on a websearch!  Actually, it DID take 5 minutes.

The red dress woman... eesh!  I am so sick of it, especially the "orc" watching her through the window.

Wellness-check cop?  Seriously, to do a wellness check on children, you don't send a female cop, or some social workers?  And you question them in FRONT of the adults?  Gahhh!!!

Okay, let's talk about Who Killed Jane Doe.  First off, it's unconscionable to me how (on ANY of these shows) these apparently successful women wind up with such losers.  Is the sex that great?

The reason the murder wasn't solved many years prior was due to the medical examiner's estimation of the decedent's age was WAY off.  They put her age to be 20-30 y.o., and she was 47 y.o.  This is very good news for me, because if I'm ever found murdered, there's NO question I look my "stated age" of 65.  So you see...good clean living CAN be a problem!

I don't understand how successful women hook up with these lowlifes.  Their self-esteem must be very low.  This particular loser, he didn't even have a job, did he?  And she is talking about leaving him, taking off her ring, in the car with him being ANGRY.  What logical woman would DO that?  I would maybe do it if I had a gun.  Men are so much stronger, especially when angry.  Way too much advantage for the man.

Yeah, they would never mistake me for a 30 year old corpse. :)

I remember when Gregory Graf killed his stepdaughter. The sick fucker. I hope that he's cold and miserable.

My DVR is filled with ID channel shows, I need to catch up.

I'm less than 2 hours from St. Louis, I've been waiting for Pamela Hupp to get some type of comeuppance, I cheered when she was arrested. If only they would arrest her for the murder of Betsy Faria, and the anguish that she took Russ Faria through. I can't wait until she's pronounced guilty. Bitch thought that she was invisible to the law.

Just finished web of lies and that was vomit inducing. A dead animal in the hallway? WTF? And the "re-homing" BS should be outlawed if it's that easy to do. Thank God those awful pieces of shit were put away for essentially life. Those poor children. Shaking my head. ??

What were your thoughts?  I know they were trying to make it look like the husband did it, but I just don't think so.  I found the book author to be quite uninformed about lots of police protocol.

I was kinda bored with it.

"The Child Network" was brutal. I first learned of re-homing a year or so ago after it came to light that a state senator had re-homed his adopted very young daughters with a friend who then sexually abused one of them. He cited reactive attachment disorder, too. The whole story is just horrifying.

Which state senator?

Poll I've adopted twice, and actually my son was I guess rehomed to me from my parents. They couldn't handle him and didn't think that he was thriving in a household with his siblings, so they were going to give back to Dcfs.  I became his foster then adoptive mother. His birth Mom had just given birth, my mother took that child in her home because she had a free spot. 16 years later, I adopted that child after my Mother passed away and my step-father couldn't handle life.

I have heard of rehoming, especially in the foreign adoption community. It's really sad that it's not regulated more. As I've said, the foreign adoption community is filled with rehomed adoption and children who suffer from disorders because they've been moved around so much.

This was a very difficult episode to watch.

Arkansas State Senator Justin Harris. Here are a couple of stories if you're interested.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/young-girls-arkansas-state-official-center-adoption-controversy/story?id=34636997

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/03/13/the-story-of-an-arkansas-politician-who-gave-away-his-adopted-child-and-the-tragedy-that-followed/?utm_term=.6a15b3e093c3

When I watched the show, I thought to myself that there were more cracks for children to fall through than solid ground for them to stand on.  Over and over, the system in place failed them. After the above tragedy in AR, the rehoming was banned there and in other states (I couldn't find a count of how many). I thought that was a good thing, but reading your story, where rehoming worked, makes me wonder if just an overhaul and regulation would have been better than an outright ban. Children sometimes (often?) get abused in foster situations, so is that better? I have no idea, don't know enough, but these stories haunt me.

Ooh - I actually watched that show, back in the day.  Have yourself a good ole time with "clench" (from his Deadwood days), et al.

Oh dearie me - now my favorite subject, serial killer in sunny SoCal, is totally ruined by the overly (and overtly) DRAMATIC acting on Real Detectives.  I get dizzy whenever I roll my eyes or lean my head back to look up to the heavens; sadly, I did not pass out during my watching of this episode.  But happily, I was too dizzy to crawl to my safe and remember the combo to get my gun and shoot myself in the head.  So ... you win, ID?

"My sorry ass" is right! Hahahahahaha. I didn't say I wouldn't be checking the forums, just letting the ID shows stack up. Then I will have to binge watch them! If you're watching the news, let me know if there are any serial killers in the southern Indiana vacinity. I would greatly appreciate it. Don't know what I would do about it but might be good to know. Two more seasons of "Justified" to go. Then watch out! ?

Has there been a show done on Jacob Wetterling? I'm wondering if the dead barber was on of the keys in finding the killer. I know that DNA from a previous kidnapping ultimately solved the case (and in no way am I trying to down play that) I just wonder if the killer and barber belonged to the same pedophile group.

I have all those things except a gun. Got rid of them after my husband died and I had two small children to rear and didn't want another tragedy. You "GET" me, girlfriend!  Us single old ladies need to stick together.  I got a gun Safe, then a guy, then a lot of guns.  Got rid of everything except the gunsafe and the 44 Mag - because it was his favorite "baby" and he was too lazy to get me a REAL birthday present all those years ago.  Found Mr. nickel plated Lew Horton specially pinned & recessed 44 mag under my pillow with some lame "sorry, babe" note - and I kept it.  HEE.

I watched a Forensic Files recently about Dr. Richard Schmidt who injected his ex-girlfriend, Janice Trajan Allen, with HIV-infected blood. First off, I'm glad he's in prison. Having said that........good Lord, that woman was stupid.  She and the good doc were both married while carrying on together, but she's mad he's not abandoning his wife after she abandons her family for him (yeah, that old story). They break up, she's moving on and he's stalking, threatening, and generally making her life miserable. At some point during this she allows him to inject her regularly with "b-12." Yeah, the same guy who's been threatening her. She also at some point after or during the nutty threatening behavior she gives him an ultimatum that he marry her. The only reaction I can come up with is a Godzilla-sized face palm. The price she's paying is incredibly tragic.

All I remember about Santee from the few times I visited, was hot and dusty.  I don't swim in the Californicated oceans - I was spoiled by the clear, clean cold waters of beautiful B.C., and then the warm gentle oceans of Hawaii.  I'm a West Coast gal all the way ...

You could buy my California dumpster of a house for pennies from heaven - but you'd need to pay a plumber, and possibly an electrician (oh, crap, and a fucking roofer, too!), so you'd still need a pile of cash in the end.  :-)

And this from the judge in the CA case last week:

Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of first degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, may have accidentally killed Caylee when she tried to quiet the toddler with chloroform, said former Circuit Judge Belvin Perry Jr., who presided over the 2011 trial.

It’s a theory, he said, and if jurors had come to that conclusion, they might have found her guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter.

Perry was chief of the Orange-Osceola circuit until he retired and joined a private law firm in 2014.

Queena, the gist of the story re: Casey Anthony was she killed her 3 yr old daughter, dumped her in a swamp, and partied for a month.  Her mother called and asked for Caylee, and Casey told her Caylee had been missing for a month.  Casey's lawyer Jose Baez, told a big fat lie in his opening statement, which pretty much stayed in the jurors' minds.  Casey was acquitted.  Everyone knows she did it.  Monster.
