Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Sellers are allowed to sell items directly from Temu? I thought their TOS prohibited that.

Depends on your definition of directly. I mean if I put on a dress once to model it for my resale business it's technically gently used and not directly sold from Temu .

The thing with Etsy, though, is that the dresses, if not made or created by the seller - are supposed to be vintage. Defined as at least 20 years old.

So Jill's dresses were not made or "created" by her, and are not vintage. They're clearly not eligible to be sold on Etsy per Etsy's policies.

I've read comments on reddit claiming that Etsy hasn't been enforcing that requirement. I suppose Jill's White Clotted Cream Boutique, or whatever it is, will not be shut down even if someone reports her shop as in violation of Etsy policies.

That dress is so modest, all I can focus on are Jill's boobs. Sometimes going up a size helps .

I saw that and went she calls that modest?  She doesn't know the meaning of the word.  Of course we already knew that, but Jill is willing to prove that point over and over and over.

I'm sitting here in a modesty tee!  I ordered a shirt/pants combo from Jockey that I loved in the catelog and enjoy wearing.  However, I'm truly petite and the top is regular sizing.  The v neck in the top comes about halfway down my bra.  So yes, insert tee shirt, but it's an exact match to the background color in the print shirt and has shorter sleeves than the shirt.  It's nothing like what Jill does.  This is also a casual outfit not a formal.

I can't get over the cotton rib knit tee under a strapless formal gown.  Just go buy a formal gown with sleeves.  They are made.  I own a couple.

Jill should be selling on eBay. Etsy isn't the venue for her stuff.

Or on the side of the road.

But Etsy doesn’t allow “gently used” items either unless they’re handmade or vintage.

Jill, m' dear, when I look at... squints... are those coats or dresses? and my first thought is a flasher, you may want to re-think the mahdest thing.

As for the blue and yellow, it's the first time I've seen a Rod waif looking distinctly non-waify... so there's that...I guess...

She put one of her bitty waifs in a size 14 dress yesterday. Awful!

eta When I finally found the shop late last night, none of her dresses had sold. 😂

As of now, one item is shown as sold.

Renee in the shiny blue coat and boots looks like she's dressed as a street walker and that there's little or nothing on under that coat. I would never put a picture of my daughter wearing that on the internet. And there's something strange about the belt on both the blue and the pink coats.

The one Kaylee was wearing with the striped top part of the dress, I think. It was the only halfway decent dress, imho.

The pink dress/coat? it looks like she has buckled the belt and instead of putting the end of the belt through the loop she took the belt end and wrapped it behind her and then threaded the belt end into the loop. WHY? For all that is good and holy WHY?. I will not be able to sleep tonight trying to figure out WHY.

If you figure that one out, you can move on to why Phillip wore his belt like this.

I’m going to assume that all of the belts (including Phillip’s) are too large for the people wearing them.  I’m also pretty sure that those “dresses” are coats.
I am EXTREMELY aware that Jill had no taste.

As we enter yet another money making scheme of Jill’s, I can’t help but wonder again why she is the only one in the house trying to earn $.
I thought Dave was head of the household and responsible for supporting his family (in their belief system).  Yet he sits back, watching the map from his recliner, depending on donations while his wife works on earning money through Plexus and now re-selling used clothing.

Jill - we know you read here so we ask you to please make it make sense!

Comes with hair scrunchy ????  Because those can't be bought anywhere else, for less money and  without being coated in hairspray residue?

Jill knows darn well the reality of her life.  She covers with David having a "full-time" printing ministry.    She knows, though, if she doesn't get out there hustling there will be darn fewer "home decor" items from Dollar General.

I will give Jim Bob credit here.   At least he really did get out there and support the family (through a lot of shady scheming, I am sure).   Michelle after the early years of helping out at the car lot really didn't have to work.   I mean he exploited his kids too, but at least they didn't look like underfed waifs.

Those "dresses" are possibly homemade, although not by the Rodrigueses. They don't sew at that level.

Somebody Jill knows might have made them, but I doubt that too. Other than the collar, the work looks pretty sloppy. Every good home sewer knows that pressing is part of the sewing process. Those hems don't look as if they've ever been near an iron. My bet would be those dresses came from a sweatshop on the other side of the world.

The irony that Jill, the queen of no taste, is selling clothing makes my mouth drop open. It's like my trying to sell nuclear reactors.

Jill is also deliberately obscuring the information as to which 'dresses' are brand new and which have been worn.  That she apparently purchased two awful satin trenchcoat/dresses in different colors for herself is just another indication of how very self centered she is.  Neither of them are in a size that would properly fit any of the girls.

As for Dave being able to support the family, he just parted with hundreds of bucks to buy Jill a puppy for her anniversary; Jill has to pitch in.  Just more evidence of where their priorities lie.  Money is spent on stuff for Jill; everything else is grifted.

RE:  Puppy. There has been an add in our paper for about 4 weeks trying to "rehome" 5 Shih Tzu puppies that are 2 months old.  By "rehome, I'm thinking that they were either fostering or their dog had puppies.  Anyway, they have been vaccinated and are ready to go.  They are asking $850 for females and $750 for males.  They are not being sold by a breeder.  I would guess a breeder would charge much more.  No one seems to be interested because they are still available.  I understand asking a price for any animal that is to be rehomed, just to make sure the animal is going to a good home, and is not being used for a bad purpose.  But this seems high since there is no proof that they are purebred.  I shudder to think about all the groceries and appropriate clothing these prices could buy.  Personally I would go to a shelter and adopt rather an spend that much money for a "purebred".

Please tell me she is not making her daughters sew dresses.  Maybe these "dresses" really made in Ohio by the curdled cream boutique.  I wonder if they will offer earrings, also.

I don’t think any of the clothing she is selling is home made except perhaps some of the earrings. Her listings include pics of labels inside the items. I haven’t scrolled through all the items but I did see labels, including two SHEIN labels.

A couple of the shirts are wrinkled, one has a stretched collar. I can't believe she is charging what she is charging.

She has sold 2 items.

I think that is the standard Etsy side template.   I don't think you can change it.   It's a leftover from the days when Etsy was only handmade.  Before they went to craft supplies, or anything else you can get away with.

A lot is boilerplate and you either can't change it or Jill has no idea how to change it.   So that isn't her being misleading.

I think the Rods are feeling a financial squeeze these days.

Jill's new Etsy venture just shouts desperation. Inflated prices for wrinkly ugly used clothes, some of which are dirty (she disclosed a grass stain on one dress!).

Jill and/or David have recently spoken about their aging RV which keeps breaking down, and how the tablet they use for their music has died or needs replacing for some reason.

Yet - as noted above, they must have spent a few hundred bucks on that puppy recently.

So isn't Plexus providing Jill the great income stream she brags about on social media? Are the missionary clearinghouse payments smaller these days? Are the sons-in-law tapped out as sources of income for restaurant meals, admission to entertainment venues, and trips?

Are we watching the Rodrigues Family Serving Jesus enterprise circling the drain here?

Rod family performing at Old Fashion Sunday in PA this morning.

Jill speaks first. Thanks someone there for gifting them a banjo that they used on their latest recording.

Thanks someone who has gifted each of the Rod married couples a homemade cutting board, she seemed to not understand what wood burning was to put names on it. But she is thankful she now has one to take to Tim and Heidi.

Jill tears up over such love in this evil world. Tears end immediately when she starts shilling her book for young ladies and 2 cds. Cash or venmo accepted.

She skips introducing her the oldest 3. Sorry Pastor Nathan Keller. 😂

The children introduce themselves. Renee states Phillip is now in W.V. "praying about the Lord's will in his life"

Sam is with them - still tall and shy

Sofia has a new fun fact "she is small and petite" while endlessly trying to pull up her bloomers or tights. Janessa pinches Sofia's arm at least once.

They sing 3 songs while Jill aggressively hammers the piano. One song has the 3 youngest standing there an entire song only for the line every knee will bow and praise.

An interesting read, thinking about @Minivanessa's post. They're still getting gifts, but not gifts that are of high value or that took a lot away from the giver (ie, a banjo that no-one plays anymore and a cutting board that someone enjoys making as a hobby). These are not houses, tablets, RVs or shopping sprees.

Phillip is in West Virginia now? I wonder if he's with Jill's parents or sister Amy. Where are his relatives on David's side?

He's been in Oklahoma and Ohio that we know of. Is he just moving from place to place randomly? I hope he's OK.

Probably with the grandparents. Don't they have a house on the same property, or adjacent property, to Kevin and Amy?

Yes, their home is on Kevin and Amy's property and a short walk from their home.  If Phillip is with the grandparents, I hope he is helping out with his grandmother's care.  It didn't seem like Jill's father was much help and Amy's family also has to care for her.  I expect Amy's daughters are pretty exhausted at this point.  Of course, having a Y chromosome does exclude Phillip from any sort of caregiving or housework, so probably not.

The level of gifts is going down thus Jill is rummaging through their closets for things to sell. Either people have caught on or they are being wiser with their money.

Dave also talked and tells they have a new programmable cutter that cuts the smiley tracts and some other new piece of equipment he doesn't name. That maybe they had last time they were there or maybe not, he is not sure.

He talks about the John and Romans booklets and says "you almost ordered some from us this year" 😂

He says they print about a million tracts a year. Jill has stated "millions a year" several times. 700,00 smileys, 500,000 to amazing grace ministries.

Also, they print prayer cards and maybe mailers.

He talks about the RV going down hill and praying what to do about that. Also prayers for the size of their ministry and the help that they need.

He seems confused about how long they have been there and what day he went door knocking with them. Today, yesterday, this weekend, this trip...

I will say as far as sermons this one was not horrible. Dave makes some of the same points I have heard many times in various churches.

(we are having a bit of um...disruption... in our house this week, so while I am distracting my brain from that, I listened to this crap while riding the stationary bike)

I'm thinking we should be thankful Jill's faith doesn't allow female preachers. Jill's initial presentation to her "sweet friends" obviously works and if given the right platform she could become someone akin to Gwen Shamblin.

Inflation hits everybody. My guess their usual donors cut down or eliminated gifting at this point. Also even if Jill only buys treats for herself and David those are way up. Soda, chips, cookies are very pricy nowadays. I rarely buy them and I only shop for me. Last trip to grocery store for necessary food items was $90 for me. No extras like snacks. So I can only imagine Jill's grocery bills.

I'm laughing because at MANY points in my retail career, I had to "hem" pants using the tagging gun like this.  I always check pants before I put them in the washer or put them up on Poshmark/eBay to sell.  You can make fun of me for it because yes it can look ridiculous, that's fine, but sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do LOL

Can't believe Jill is selling clothes on Etsy because a known aggravation with sellers is the crazy fees on that platform.  I would venture to guess she doesn't weigh anything either and just guesses at weights and leaves any overage to be paid by the buyer at delivery.
