Just saw for the first time the repeat of Best Burger Quest. Good show. Informative, good rapport among the hosts, engaging guest. Now I'm thinking about how am I going to get myself to Matt's Bar for the "Jucy Lucy." I'm going to miss Carla, Michael and Clinton together as a team.

Me, too! The end of this month is the end of even these repeats, right? Fortunately, I am still working through a bunch on the DVR, but I am going to really miss these guys and this show.

I think they were sort of vague when they mentioned it, the third hour of GMA premieres on Sept. 10th so it probably will run through the 7th.

Michael cracks me up when he won't eat something, like the salmon burger on the show today. He pushed it away. I remember a time when they pictured a celebrity making them a sandwich, a and he was wearing a sleeveless t-shirt. Michael wouldn't eat it because he said arm pitsw should always be covered when you're preparing food.

Did anyone watch the re-run of the last show today?

I'm going to miss my little Chew babies so much. Every time they teared up, I teared up.

I looked to see if any of the seasons were available on Amazon, either to stream or on DVD, but they weren't (at least when I looked). I don't know if that's because of Batali, or if they never were.

I'd really like to rewatch the series. I can stifle my Batali disgust or ff through his segments.

I wanted to watch the rerun of the last show today, but forgot I took it off of my DVR during the summer and wasn't going to be home at noon.  :(

I was getting sad and sentimental all week as I was watching the reruns.  I'm really going to miss this show.  It premiered on the first weekday I was home after I had my son almost 7 years ago, and when my husband went back to work.  I can't remember if I watched the very first show or not, I was pretty sleep deprived back then.  But I do remember the first few episodes and how they improved quickly as the show went on.  It felt very rushed in the beginning, trying to do too many recipes in one show, but they found their grove.  It just made me happy and gave me a great break during the day.  Even my son got to know it was the one show I had to watch during the day, and he would tell me "Ok, Mom, you can watch The Chew now.  Can I play on the ipad?"  I also feel like I've learned a lot from watching the show, exactly as they wanted us too.  I learned a lot of techniques, not just recipes, and what to do and not do in the kitchen.  I really miss the show now that summer is over, and my son is back to school and I actually have some free time to sit and watch tv.

My guess is the hosts' contracts have lapsed by now. In theory, ABC Studios could have sold it to another network, but who would buy it? And I don't think cable networks could afford it.

I was flipping the channels yesterday and stumbled across that 3rd hour of GMA. I like Sara Haines and can take or leave Michael Strahan, but I decided not to even check it out, out of (silly) loyalty to The Chew. (And that's fairly ironic, given how angry I felt when I saw AMC and OLTL fans crowing over The Chew's cancelation.)

I guess Carla did a cooking segment on it. I would have watched that, had I known.

I saw it. It was bad. Carla was a bit frenetic, on account (I think) of trying to do well at a new gig. Whoever the annoying female host is was fully invested in the whole "eek! cooking is so hard!" persona that many morning show hosts affect. Michael whatshisname was better but the segment was still bad. I felt sorry for Carla. After working with a team she knows well and that supports her for seven seasons, going to this cluster must have been difficult.

If ABC couldn’t make or work economically no other network could because they would have to pay more from it.

I only say Carla’s IGstory about her appearance and she seemed manic.

I watched the 4th hour of GMA, which they are GMA Day.  It was horrible and if ABC actually believes that this show can replace They Chew, they are smoking crack.  I saw Carla's segment and it was poorly produced, neither Michael or Sara indicated they had ever been in a kitchen, knew what a kitchen was, or how meals are prepared in general.  Carla is better than what I saw on TV.  I hate for the show to fail if this is Carla's new gig but honestly other than seeing Carla this is the worst show I've watched.  I don't know if ABC knows who their target audience is, but it's obviously not the views of The Chew.

The Chew Is Coming Back for One More Episode—Here's How to Watch It

Quote

Kelly, Symon, and Hall will all get together to catch up, mix new cocktails, and cook from Carla's new cookbook, Carla Hall's Soul Food: Everyday and Celebration, which will be released on October 23. You'll be able to watch the live reunion by logging onto Facebook or Instagram on Monday, October 22 at 1 p.m. Eastern time. You can find the live show by heading over to one of the hosts' official Instagram accounts, or on an official Facebook fan page.

It's probably all the same,  chessiegal, just released on different platforms. The sound did get a little better after Clinton mentioned the boom mic (I was kind of spacing when he did, but my impression was that they hadn't had it on or close enough before), but there's still a little echo. I don't care. I miss my Chew babies.

Dear Irlandesa's co-workers, go away.

Added after posting: I don't really care about this recipe. It seems like the 50th iteration of some sort of pork scallopine thing Michael made for 5-in-5-for-5. Whatever. It's just nice to see them again. They have such great chemistry.

In response to a viewer question about a potential holiday special, Clinton said there are no plans to revive the show (etc), and they don't live that close to each other any more. That said, they'd be open to a holiday special.

Those aren't exact words, but it's the gist.

Now Carla is making a curry powder, but I missed for why.

Off that, Michael is singing spices' praises, how it can change and/or elevate a dish and expand your palate. Carla then pimped her book a bit, with a tie-in, and they talked about how other seasonings can help if you're on a low-sodium diet.

Edit: Now Clinton's making a cheese ball. It's in the shape of a rat in honor of Halloween. It's got mango chutney and coconut for the fur. I hate cheese balls, but I love Clinton's cheese ball enthusiasm, the little goober.

What I like best about this episode is that it's a hot mess. I hated when The Chew was over-produced. I loved the episodes that went off the rails. This is one of those. It's also fun to see them have to cope without the kitchen staff having done all their hard work.

It's funny to see branded items (like Glad press & seal plastic wrap, etc). We never would have seen that on The Chew.

The episode ended at 2:03pm EDT.  The note at the end said it would be available on Clinton's FB timeline "shortly."

And now it is available here:

You can clearly see a difference from a professionally produced show vs. something someone would throw together in their kitchen with things like camera angles, sound and not having swap outs.  (It cracked me up when Clinton and Carla were peeling fresh eggs.)

But the chemistry was still there in spades.   I might not make many of the recipes (I rarely did anyway) but seeing these 3 again made me so happy.

As soon as I hear Michael laugh, I start laughing.   These three are so much fun together.  I miss the daily show so much.

At the peak of viewing on Facebook, there were 10.9k people watching at one time.    Then it dropped down to 10k, and then hovered around 10.3k and 10.4k.   I would imagine that there would have been more people if it were not a workday.

Clinton said that he filmed a series (8 episodes) in New Orleans, for Food Network.   He can't talk about it yet because FN has not announced it.   He said it was very hot in New Orleans when he filmed it.

Clinton did say that there are no plans to bring back The Chew or reboot it -- but I think he was saying that because a lot of people assumed that this live "show" was leading up to an announcement of a new show for the three of them.  I think he wanted to make sure that people knew that this video was just for fun, and because they happened to be in the same location to do it this time around, and that it was not some sort of indication of a new Chew-ish show.

Now that doesn't mean that they can't or won't work together (professionally) again -- especially since Clinton is in the Food Network family now too.  But, as Michael said, they are "not coming back right now."   And even if they end up together on some show at some point, it might not be a show like The Chew.  It could be some other competition show or something like what Food Network seems to churn out a lot these days (I am guessing).

Clinton also mentioned at a different point that it takes a long time to get a TV show together and on the air (I am paraphrasing).    So, as I suspected, even if there were any plans to put them in a new show -- which there are not right now -- it would not happen quickly.  It would take a long while to get a new show together.   And in the meantime, they have to work and make money, so they will get busy with other things anyway.

Clinton's dog, Mary, is adorable, the way she tilts her little head when he is talking to her!

As General Days mentioned above, they did say they'd be open to doing one of these live shows again around the holidays.   (It didn't sound as though they had put much thought into it at this point.)   But it seems that they are all mostly living in different places now, so it's harder for them to get together.

I loved the Cheese Rat segment because of the fact that it was so much less polished than it would have been on The Chew.   For The Chew, it would have been perfected in the Chew kitchens before it ever made it to a show.   The types of segments I always loved on The Chew were the ones where something didn't go quite as planned, and the hosts had time to react to it and deal with it on the fly, laughing and being silly all the while.

I see Clinton's FB page is better than Symon's Instagram.

They mentioned that the Instagram Lives on their pages were static, and their phones were on tripods, and there was a camera person for the FB live.  When I looked on Instagram, the camera person was in the way, so I went back to FB.

I was shocked that Facebook was working well for me.   My PC and Internet connection are always unpredictable.    It only buffered one time, and that was early on in the hour, but then the rest of it was smooth sailing.   However, I saw a lot of comments from other people who said that their videos kept freezing and crashing throughout the hour.

I only got a chance to see half of it live and it made me so happy!!!!!  I watched via Facebook with no problems.  Loved seeing them all again, and the cherry on top was Mary running around.

I'm sad - I was missing the show so much so I decided I would watch Carla's salmon thing again - and the link gives a page not found now.  So I tried to find it on YouTube and couldn't.  If anyone has better luck than I do, please  share the linkie!

Oh that makes me so sad.  I miss this show every day, but especially now with the holidays upon us

I'm also missing the show more because of the holidays.  It was a big part of the holiday season for me. Even if I didn't make half of the things they prepared,  it really got me in the mood.

Two basic things I will take with me into the holidays are Carla’s pie crust recipe, and gravy.  Gravy is one of those things I make only at thanksgiving, maybe one other time a year. I have always been intimidated by it.  But something about the chew and their holiday shows finally made it click with me. Not a recipe, more of a technique.   And the pie crusts are really good and so easy!

I have had the best luck finding old content by using Google to search for it. Even before the show ended, Google was a more reliable way to find recipes than the ABC website.

Seriously the ABC website was the absolute worst!

I suspect we're going to lose this forum in the site reorg. I know we're not all that active, but I could always count on you all to:

a) Get it

b) Keep me apprised of when our beloved Chew hosts were appearing some where.

Hopefully, we'll get a show thread, but I don't know, since the show is dead. Take care, everyone.

You can usually find me in The View thread, which does the complete opposite for my outlook as did The Chew (the thread people are good people, the show is from Satan).

I know, right. I'm still not over The Chew being off the air. Not sure I can deal.

I'm not either. Facebook reminded me this week that three years ago I was in NYC and seeing The Chew live. I may miss this show more than any other.

Based on this, we'll probably have everything but the small talk threads merged into a topic thread.

When I got to the part where Dave was talking about condensing vs. archiving, I got confused and worried and stopped comprehending. I think you're probably right, and I won't mind a single thread going forward. I hope we don't lose our old posts, but I'd rather have the show back.
