Take that back! Don't put that out into the universe!  Another network yes. But the CW  nope.

Lol.  If it were to be a teen version of P&P, the CW probably would be the only place that would do it, but I'm very open to a more grown-up version as well somewhere else.  I also thought of the CW because as much as I love P&P and Elizabeth and Darcy, if the live version took the characters elsewhere, I'd want them to follow what felt natural to pairings.  Of course, it would be better if they got the writing right in the first place.

The random thought only popped in my head because I was pondering all the comic based shows primarily aimed at guys and the awful Valor that supposedly was supposed to pull in female viewers (as was the trashy dumb Dynasty) and tried to think of something women might actually enjoy.

Honestly, it seems like it shouldn't be so very hard for them to find source material to tap that specifically appeals to women.

Remember a couple of pilot seasons ago when The CW were going to do Little Women but in modern times but they were going to make like one of the girls a drug addict and it was going to be like a dystopia and all dark and angsty. That was what I was thinking of at the PP suggestion haha Either that or they'd Gossip Girl it and have Darcy start dating or showing an interest in Jane after Elizabeth rejects him.

That being said I still watched Pride Prejudice and Zombies sure I was going to hate it and even though it was cheesy as I found it a fun way to pass an hour.

I actually wouldnt mind if they turned The Lizzie Bennet Diares into a proper series as that website series was fantastically done and was a great modern retelling. If you haven't seen I highly recommend it.

I hope they don't do an angtsy version. I actually wonder if they would toss it a little on the head and make Darcy a girl. I actually know a few female Darcys. That could be one way they could make it modern by having two women fall in love. Not saying I want to watch that series, just thinking outside the box about a revision of the classic.

That was really good.

------

I honestly think the concept, ideology & characterization of Darcy, P&P and Elizabeth have so permeated modern culture that they almost don't even need to make a remake to redo the story. It has become a cookie cutter way of telling a love story. It doesn't take anything away from it, because I loved the original - but it has become a paradigm or exemplar in many ways.

Just finished watching the second season of Victoria. I think it was a much stronger season then the first season and there was less of a soap operish feel which the first season sometimes had. Although there is one storyline with Albert that was straight out of a daytime soap that I'm hoping they won't make too much of a thing in the third season. I also thought they used the down stairs staff better. I don't think the show really needs a downstairs storyline and I think the only reason they did that was to try and capture the Downton Abbey fame but they were at least more sparingly used. But don't watch this show if you're a stickler for historical accuracy because they are definitely doing their  own thing even if they do try a feature key moments in Queen Victoria's reign.

Good to hear. :) It doesn't start until January in my neck of the woods. I like the idea of downstairs/upstairs. I think the writers just need to find the right storyline or angle for downstairs. Season 1 was missing that with all it's attempts at intrigue and secrets. I do think it was probably due to Downton that we get upstairs/downstairs... but there also was that BBC/PBS classic Upstairs/Downstairs, so I think people are just always intrigued by the how the other side lives.

Seriously... it crosses all categories, ages and types of people. It's just really sad, all of it.

On another note, I betcha the Arrow writers room are going to tackle sexual harassment in upcoming seasons. It's just prime with OQ's position/history and Mad Dog's mouth. But that's a theory for another thread, I just wanna be down on record that I saw it coming.

MG is finally going to get his chance to tackle the scourge that is reverse sexism and have some poor Smoak Tech intern go to HR over Felicity's unintentional double entendres.

While I can see him wanting to do it, I think cooler heads will prevail.  At least I hope so.  Wendy, don't fail me in this.

I'm guessing Warner executives are going to do some spring cleaning on the Arrowverse (Klemmer might be the only show runner that's safe), so I agree, there won't be a sexual harassment episode.

No matter how close or not KC was with him, he was her birth father and I can't imagine it being easy to lose a parent, no matter how "complicated" the relationship.  Maybe even harder if it wasn't in a great place, now all those possibilities of getting better are gone.  My sympathies go out to KC and the rest of David Cassidy's family and friends.

I'm questioning my Thanksgiving Menu.

Starters

Brie and Apple puff pastry

Spinach Dip and Pumpernickel Bread Bowl

Dinner

Turkey/gravy

Stuffing

Sweet Potatoes Casserole

Mashed Potatoes

Corn

Cranberry Sauce

It's a lot of food and were only 7 people but, only 1 vegetable.

You think I should add a garden salad or another cooked Veggie (carrots?)

Another vote for salad. Something fresh to balance out the carbs.

The carrots feel like they are adding to the root veg quota.

Is Christmas a big meal for you guys in the States too? Feels like you have to execute 2 big meals within a month from each other!

Can I come?  Those starters sound wonderful!

All the food sounds yummy even if there is a lot of carbs.  People may pass on a garden salad with all that else so if you're going to add something, green beans or carrots.  (I add slivered red pepper to green beans because it looks Christmassy and cheerful.

Sometimes it feels like Thanksgiving to Christmas is one huge effort not turn into a blimp.

So many meals to cook and organise!!!!!!!

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Japanese food! It's a staple for us at least twice a week

That's why everyone choses a holiday to host so it's not one person with all 3 holidays. I actually looks forward New Years the most where we handroll sushi and everyone is involved in cooking or making something. We have some Chinese food as well since my Uncle is Chinese and his family owns a restaurant in Chinatown.

I was planning on doing both strangely enough,  but for during the day/ actual cooking stuff.  I settled on deviled eggs and meatballs.

We don't do starters and looking at your menu, I think we need to start.

We do green bean casserole as well,  I'm so excited for it.

we're doing a friendsgiving this year ands people keep inviting more people than I can handle so I'm nervous.   We're also doing an all day thing so I'm nervous about how much food we should make.   It's very overwhelming.

For years I have hosted and invited 2 friends who have crappy dysfunctional parents to Christmas and then a few of my other friends (with perfectly nice families) started coming over for dinner after they had eaten a huge lunch made by their nice parents.

So last year I moved Christmas to lunch and instigated a new rule that if you have nice functional parents you are not to come over for Christmas unless they refuse to cook for you and you do not have any Christmassy food to eat!

Can you institute a if they bring someone they have to bring some food rule? I live in perpetual fear of not having enough food for dinner parties so I totally understand the nerves.

That's basically what we actually do,  we all have shitty families and the ones that don't just show up later.   I've just never hosted in an apartment before.

My bff stepped up and did that,  because its only my sister,  she and I cooking she told everyone else that they had to bring food or booze .  We're doing both ham and turkey so apps or wine were the suggested choices.

eta: friendsgiving is Sunday,  I just realized how nervous I am about dinner with the in-laws.   Both suck.

My cousin used to have wonderful pot luck parties for 30 at Thanksgiving and BoxingDay at her farm.  Anyone who didn't have a place to go, or was brought by someone could go.  Then she got tired of all the work and just went with her family so now there's only two of us at Thanksgiving and we have Cornish hens instead of a turkey.  A turkey at Christmas though, for the leftovers.

My Thanksgiving plans went sideways.

So I'm going to get a rotesserie chicken, stuffing potatoes and make my own little meal :)

With the allegations against Kreisberg, and other allegations of assholishness and abuse against Guggenheim, I very much (and hope and pray) doubt they will. But they’re arrogant enough to do it as a “show of support” or some such bullshit, because that’s how they roll.

And how did I not know that Katie was David’s daughter???? I watched both The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family when I was wee in syndication, and Keith was my fave.

I remember seeing him on Fantasy Island and not recognizing him because he had short hair! My heart breaks for Shaun, Patrick and Shirley Jones. I also learned there’s another Cassidy, Ryan. But he does more behind the camera work.

I find it odd that I haven’t read any articles about how Danny and Susan reacting to David’s passing. Or maybe I missed it?

I've been rewatching Roswell which I don't think I've watched since the first time I watched it sand it's reminded Jason Behr terrible wooden and one note actor, that Max and Liz are boring and melodramatic, that Max and Isabel always had a weird chemistry for playing brother and sister and why Maria and Michael were one of the first couples along with Joey and Pacey and Buffy and Angel that I shipped before I knew what shipping was.

An interesting idea from The Mary Sue

8 Fantasy Series We Could Adapt Besides More Lord of the Rings

by Princess Weekes

Quote

Amazon is going to use The Lord of the Rings series as their way to create their own Game of Throne-style series, by allowing themselves to explore the vast universe of Middle-Earth. While is this … definitely a choice one could make, I find myself wondering why couldn’t those millions of dollars have been used to create an adaption that was more—I don’t know—obscure. Less known. Less already adapted into multiple massive blockbusters.... Therefore, while there is room for more Middle-Earth, methinks there are also many other universes worth exploring. Here are a few:

(1) Tortall Universe & Circle Universe by Tamora Pierce

(2) The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin:

3) The Gormenghast Series by Mervyn Peake:

(4) Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

(5) The Diviner Series or Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray

6) His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

(7) The Dandelion Dynasty by Kevin Liu

(8) The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix

There was already a Gormenghast TV series but I don't think it played everywhere.  I can't understand why there hasn't been a Tortall series because there is so much potential in it ... except for the part that the lead characters are female.

Anyone here watch Great British Bake Off and the various spin offs?

I'm watching the Canadian version right now and it's really good. I love how Australia and Canada have pretty much copied the British format.

On another note I bought a Spinel!!!!! I am sooooooo excited! My first Spinel ever and I have been wanting one for sooooo long! Got it at a really good price too! And it's pink so Hubby will be pleased! Squeeeeeeeee!!!!!

I'm currently debating whether to collect most of the mainstream gems or just stick to the ones with colours I like. Something like Tanzanite, I'm not a huge blue girl but I feel like I should own a Tanzanite for the collection's sake.

I've caught the Great British Baking show and the US version when it comes out as well.  I do almost zero baking but it's fascinating to watch for some reason.  And it makes you think (briefly) hey, I could do that!  Then I come to my senses and munch on a pop tart or something, lol.

As for your gem collection, since this is a semi-precious gem collection, isn't the greatest value in it the pleasure it brings you?  So I'd say only feel obligated to collect what YOU think it pretty enough to want.  Don't worry about anyone else's standards or opinions.  :D

That said, BLUE IS SOOOOO PRETTY!!!  See, if I ever got obsessed with sparkly gems, we could still be buds because I'd always be after the ones you don't want.  ?

I like the Great British Baking Show and the Great Canadian Baking show more than Masterchef because the contestants are so nice and supportive of each other. If something goes wrong, another contestant will often step in to help.  I haven't seen the Australian version yet.

@Mellowyellow did you know that for the Canadian version the recipes for the winning bakes and the technical challenges are posted here? I really want to try the vegetarian tortiere.

@statsgirl I wanted to check out the bagel recipe since they had so may issues with it. I've never liked bagels and wonder if they're just nasty tasting in Australia.

They've toned down the crazy on Masterchef US this year. It's noticeably less vicious.

@BkWurm1 you'd love tanzanite. It's a gorgeous blue. My bestie bought one on a cruise at exorbitant prices. I could have killed her but I held my tongue although it hurts me to think what I could have got her for the same amount. Her husband told me he was pleading with her to "ring up mellowyellow before you buy it."

I made a baking friend last year. She understands why it's upsetting when my chiffon cakes are 2mm shorter than they should be. Everyone else just thinks I'm crazy.
