This is an interesting thread re: harassment in comics. This guys posits Time Warner doesn't give a fuck if DC's audience is a garbage fire hot mess of misogyny, but Disney cares are great deal if Marvel's audience is.

Interesting sidenote there about the growing rumors (pro and fan) that Wild Dog is intended for an upcoming DC film, thus the current appearance/test on Arrow.

I'm in complete agreement with the characterization of Disney as very brand focused, though - I know with at least one franchise, some studio notes include comments from people responsible for marketing/brand management of the theme parks.

So, I came across this blind item on blindgossip.com:

Hero got riled up.

Quote

This handsome actor is best known for starring in one of those superhero TV shows.

We hear that the cast and crew on his show really dislike his wife. Their relationship is supposedly on the rocks… and she has been creating drama. She came to the set and got into an argument with him that got him all riled up and delayed production for an hour or so. She was asked to stay away from the set to avoid further problems.

The cast and crew are whispering (and probably hoping) that the two will divorce in the next year.

Regardless of whether it is SA or not, if it is true or not. I just love some celebrity gossip. I am quite ashamed of myself.

I always assumed that the cast/crew liked SA's wife because she is with them quite a lot. That's why I might not see it as being SA so much. However, I could be wrong and they totally hate her. Who knows...

Let's see.  It's not Gotham cause the closest to a handsome actor on that show actually works with his significant other on set. It's not Flash cause GG isn't married.  I can't believe it would be LoT cause Brandon Routh is not first known for starring on one of those superhero shows.  I can't think of a star on AoS that fits since that cast is more like a bunch of supporting actors and the closest to a male lead is not what you'd describe as handsome (he's not ugly, just not hot).  It can't be Supergirl or Jessica Jones since FEMALE lead, lol.  I don't know anything about the marital status of dude on Daredevil or Luke Cage.  Would there be any other shows that I haven't brought up?

The blind item sounds like the show is currently filming, so I'd narrow down the subject to Bernthal and SA.

Punisher is in it's first season, isn't it?  I suppose you can learn to dislike someone very quickly but my first instinct it that kind of thing takes a bit of time.

Of course it could all be overblown, misconstrued, baseless gossip.

The BI doesn't actually say "lead," it just says "starring." Which, in typical inflated Blind Item speak, could mean anything from recurring on up to lead, haha. But at any rate, I wouldn't rule out people you might not consider the "lead," like Routh, etc.

I'd still rule out Routh since he's more famous for Superman than what he's doing now, but if "starring" is that broad a term, then I'd put back on the table all the supporting actors on all of the shows, lol.  Maybe Mad Dog and his bride are fighting.  ;)

This sounds like a retread of a blind gossip about Jensen Ackles. YEARS ago when supposedly his wife was difficult and not liked by the cast and crew.  I have NO idea if that was true or not but take out "superhero" and it's almost the same. Weird.

Since we're discussing sexism and misogyny, this is the music world but NY Times did a very long article on the problems currently surrounding Kesha, and while a long read is very good and very, very sad.

And I can totally see that BI being about Stephen.   But I also thought that Cassandra spent a lot of time in LA when Arrow was filming. Did I make that up?

No I think your right, she seems to stay mainly in LA from what I've noticed.

She's been in Van since the summer. Hasn't gone yet... or hadn't as of last week. Just from what I've noticed on SM. I expect she'll scamper back to warmer climes here soon.

Im impressed they got Samantha Smith back on Supernatural after all these seasons. To  Loved her comment about cutting her hair so the bad guys wouldn't have anything to grab (Thank you!).

I always wanted to see JDM back on the show. For all the Supernatural peeps, was there any BTS that stopped him from appearing? I feel like everyone else has been back in one way or another.

Well in Cassandra's defense; SA has a big LI to impress this season. He has a whole city he needs to make sweet TV love too. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if its SA & Cassandra. They seem to fit the description. Then again its a pretty typical piece of gossip, so I wouldn't be surprised if it amounts to nothing.

Some of it was timing, JDM had a very busy career after Supernatural S1. I've also heard rumors that he didn't like the direction the show took his character in post death (major implications of him being an abusive/absentee parent).

I, usually, hate gossip, but I'm sick and whaaaaaat? Tell me more! (I am shamefully interested!)

Also, in my state of high fever, my thoughts are wandering towards SA's tweeting about the World Series and not his own show. (Hence the private setting! Re: wtf was going on with his twitter account)

(I am the worst! Please forgive me and remember I am sick)

/ashamed of myself (but still curious)

Is there a helpful "how-to" section somewhere in previously.tv that would show me how to post tweets and stuff like you guys are?  I probably should have learned this by now, but I haven't :(

With tweets, you just need to go to the actual tweet, copy the URL and paste it here. It should embed automatically. Same with photos, if you copied the image address.

Oh, that was way easier than I was trying to make it.  Thank you!

Antonio Negret (directed Arrow episode 3x20, among others) is directing next week's Lethal Weapon episode:

That's a bummer. Personally I wasn't a fan of how they wrote him post death. It seemed unnecessary. I got the impression they wanted to write Bobby as their true father and Sam and Deans real father. John got trashed for it.

Hasn't it been clear from pretty much the start that Dean was Sam's primary care giver? That spells absentee parent to me. Not necessarily physically, but when it comes to state of mind. I think I remember the grounds being laid in the first season, but I can't be certain.

IMO, it's kind of a mess canonically now because of things introduced in later seasons that  muddy the waters about Dean's role in Sam's life and Bobby and John's role for both boys.  For me, I thought John was a jerk but he went into full on dickbag forever as of the episode "Home" in s1.  That said, I would be perfectly happy with seeing John again mostly so Dean can give him a piece of his mind. YMMV

That wasn't my initial interpretation of the character or story. I do think that as the show went on and the characters evolved the show's portrayal of John changed .

Early on, I think we were supposed to view John as a father who loved his boys but, was driven by revenge which resulted in him being tough on them.  They didn't have a typical childhood but, we weren't supposed to think that John abused or abandoned them.

However, as the show went on they started playing with the backstory and changing relationships. So John went from tough to abusive. Dean went from Big Brother to primary care taker. John went from occasionally absent to never around etc.

This is typical of long running shows, as they go on the mythology and canon gets muddled.

I haven't been watching Supernatural for a long, long time, 5+ years for sure. And while I don't remember John as abusive, I have been left with the impression that the boys were left to their own devices a lot and that he wasn't necessarily present even when he was there.

I think this will be a debate that rages even after the show is only living in reruns and on DVD.  I thought Dean's role as being heavily involved in raising Sam (with John occasionally getting help from Pastor Jim)was established in the first seasons with flashbacks which I thought was reconfigured later with Bobby being more involved in raising the boys than was implied when Bobby was introduced. I think John's story is interesting because there are so many different takes on whether John was abusive/borderline abusive/not abusive but tough on the boys.  I do think he was so obsessed with finding Mary's killer that he wasn't emotionally there for the boys.

Who?  I'll be honest, I was briefly tempted by the surprise fiance'.  I know I'm supposed to pick the soldier (see I haven't even learned their names yet, lol) but he's still sooooo hung up on dead wife that I can't see him that way with anyone else except in the most theoretical sense.

Yeah, Wyatt and Lucy. Him having a dead wife is irrelevant. I don't pick my 'ships, my 'ships pick me. :)

Hey, no judging here.  I shipped Bo and Daisy Duke until I got old enough for someone to explain the cousin thing to me.

If you have Amazon Prime, head on now and go watch "Good Girls Revolt". I literally binged watched the entire 1st season (minus episode 1 which I saw a couple of weeks ago) today. Whether it gets a 2d season or not, they ended it off in a great point.

Great show, now waiting for "The Crown" to come to Netflix on the 4th!

Yeah, seems to be about the cover, but here's some good spec to go with it:

Oh my goodness, it's a freaking comic book cover!  There's nothing to get pissy about, or want to exclude people from enjoying a media they enjoy.  Oh no, females enjoy comic books as well which is obviously sick and wrong, because the tropes present in comic books like strong characters, good teams, heroes kicking ass, bravery, character development, and many others are things only guys like.  On behalf of my gender I apologize.  Come on people, let others like what they want to like, don't put a limit to who can like what medium.

It reminds me of people getting pissed about Wonder Woman being bisexual.  For damn near everybody that's read Wonder Woman comics, that's not a shock, and isn't news worthy because it was obvious, but for some, they got pissed.  Speaking of Wonder Woman, I recommend everybody read Wonder Woman Rebirth, it's kicked major ass so far.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Frank Cho is the same douchebro who was butthurt a few months ago because Greg Rucka thought his Wonder Woman covers were vulgar:

It's really hard to be a woman and like superhero comic books at the same time, it REALLY REALLY is. Jfc.
