Cast in Other Roles: I Don't Think We're in Nashville Anymore

I really liked how genuine Lennon used to look. It's so disappointing she's trying to do the blonde teen sexpot look. I get that this is how the industry is, but I really liked that she had a unique look to her. Her going blonde and ditching the glasses and amping up the make-up is just so unneeded.

At least ditching the lenses is normal. I've lost count of everyone who has been trying to convince to me to wear lenses &/or get laser surgery done and ditch my glasses. And maybe she just likes having blonde hair. Either way, I don't think (and i hope) that she isn't in charge of her look. She's too young for that surely.

Plus the generally allowable age to do things like color your hair seems to have migrated to an earlier age.  When I was in high school, there was only 1 girl who dyed her hair and all my friends had to wait until they were 18/out of high school to get a perm or dye their hair.  So lots of my friends were putting lemon juice in their hair to get highlights.

Fast forward to today and I see kids in junior high with dyed hair and elementary school kids with a blue/purple/green stripe.

Kyle Dean Massey was Gabe in the Broadway Play Next to Normal, which I'm currently becoming obsessed with and want to desperately to find a production I can see live. Check him out:

"I Am the One" and its reprise is just repeating through my head right now. What a great tune!

Soooo ... I was innocently messing about on YouTube trying to find a song by Tiffany (child of the 80's here) and stumbled upon a video that had a different Tiffany in it and is absolutely hilarious: "Masturbate for Life" by DJ Lubel. I won't link to it here for obvious reasons, but if you find it and watch it you will see the part of the "douchebag boyfriend" is played by none other than Chris Carmack! If you're an adult please look for it - you will laugh your a$$ off I promise!

Nashville's Will Chase Joins HBO Porn Drama The Deuce for Arc

I can't help it...this headline makes me bust out in laughter.  Porn drama?  Sheesh, Will.

Should be worth checking out - for David Simon alone.

Quote

Written by Wire creator David Simon and frequent collaborator George Pelecanos, the series — which stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal — chronicles the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s.

Will Chase is busy. ABC is keeping him. Not going to CMT, is the best move for him.

Nashville star staying at ABC — exclusive

It was clear when CMT picked up Nashville that not everyone would join the show on its new network. Now it’s confirmed that one of its high-profile stars has decided to stay put at ABC.

EW has learned exclusively that Will Chase, who played Luke Wheeler on Nashville, has joined the new ABC drama Time After Time as a series regular. Chase will play Griffin, who is described as an ambitious and charismatic war veteran vying to be New York’s next state senator.

Here’s the official description from ABC: “As boyfriend to billionaire Vanessa Anders, he’s also one half of Manhattan’s most talked about power couple. But when a mysterious man in the form of H.G. Wells suddenly becomes a major distraction in Vanessa’s life, Griffin finds his relationship with her strained and his patience tested.”

I saw her on Veronica Mars and Once Upon a Time, too, but I thought she was Brittany Snow on OUAT for the longest time.

The biggest difference between them is that Jessy has a longer face and thin, pin-straight hair. Brittany's hair is thicker and straightened out.

I, too, am glad Chip has a new gig already, although he'll always be Deacon to me.  I don't think there's anything that will stop him from continuing his music career.  I live in Nashville and am fortunate to hear and see a lot more of him than those who aren't local.  He's about to play his 98th, 99th and 100th show at the Grand Ole Opry and he's just giddy with excitement.  I believe his 100th appearance will be on July 20th.  FYI, the Grand Ole Opry is broadcast live if anybody is interested in hearing him.  I just hope he doesn't move away from Nashville!

Slasherboy, since you are in Nashville, you may have better judgment of this.  Some people are saying that Chip may be invited to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.  I don't know anything about what criteria are used for that invite, but it seems to me that Chip doesn't have the playlist or the fan base to justify it.  Please don't throw anything, people, I have seen him in concert and think he's a great performer but don't know if that's enough for the Grand Ole Opry.

Do you, Slasherboy, think there is anything to this?

I don't live in Nashville anymore, but I'll answer.

There are a lot of Chip fans who would like for him to get invited.  Primarily because they like him a lot and they follow him all over the country - and beyond, in many cases - to see him perform.  He is certainly entertaining and he's definitely been a big promoter of Nashville and country music.  But you mention playlist and fanbase and both of those things are important.  As are other things, like radio play and recording contracts.  He's had none of that.  The music he's put out he's done himself.  He has no recording contract and he has no real radio play.  He's never had another artist put a hold on one of his songs.  His shows are generally small affairs and most of those fans are those who watch the show.  I'm not sure that his fanbase extends much beyond fans of the show and he would really need a recording contract and radio to get that.

I've also heard that the fact that he's gotten to play the Opry in large part because of the TV show makes those who might consider him for membership to put a pause on it.  He's an actor who plays an artist and, despite the fact that he is a performer, there are some who wouldn't support it.  There are many other performers who have as many, or more, appearances and who aren't there on the back of a TV show.  I think, at least for now, that it's what will hold him back.  That said, anything could happen.  He does seem to be well-liked and he's gotten to know a lot of songwriters and other performers and worked some with them.  He's a great promoter for the city, which is a criteria.  So he meets some of the criteria, although not all.

I think it's wishful thinking that he'd get invited now, but again, you never know.

Chip has picked up a new role in a show called Tell Me Your Secrets on TNT. I am happy for him, but I do hope he continues his music career too!

I'm super excited that he'll be back on our screens, even as a recurring performer.  But if the show does well and he makes a splash, maybe he'll become a regular too.  We know he has the acting chops to do it!  That role sounds like it was practically tailor made for him too.

piratewench, thanks for answering seewillrun's question.  You did a much better and more thorough job than I ever could.  I agree with everything you said.  And sadly, it's all true.  While I love, love, love Chip, I don't believe he deserves (yet) an invitation to become a member of the Opry.  He hasn't paid his dues and I suspect others in the industry might not be happy about it.  That said, I admire the hell out of him and enjoy his music and personality.  I've been fortunate to see him quite a few times in person and his shows are extremely entertaining.  But I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here.

I, too, am excited about seeing him in another show.  His name is going to be Saul!  HAHA  That'll take some getting used to.  It films in New Orleans.  Do we know if it starts this fall?

Connie Britton is starring in the new Bravo series Dirty John. Juno Temple and Julia Garner play her daughters, and Eric Bana plays the title character. It's based on a podcast which is based on a true story. Only two episodes have aired so far so you have time to catch up easily.

Connie has received a Golden Globe nomination for her role!
