MicheleinPhilly January 23 Share January 23 I've seen a grand total of ONE nominated film but that ONE film demonstrates that category fraud is still alive and well. Kieran Culkin is no way a supporting actor in his film. kittykat January 23 Share January 23 Agreed Kieran Culkin has as much screentime as Jesse Eisenberg but Best Actor is already stacked. Seems like I've heard nothing but bad press about Emilia Perez so we'll see how that one fares. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8562360
ShadowHunter January 23 Share January 23 Very happy for Demi Moore and The Substance. Even Nosferatu got a cinematography nomination. Nice day for Horror fans. I have no interest in seeing Emilia Perez. The few clips I have seen I do not understand the love. Happy for Wicked and Anora as well since I actually saw those movies and liked them. I went to check out A Royal Pain but I can't stand Jesse Eisenberg. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8562377

This film won't endear you to him. I basically watched it to see what the fuss was. I'm not opposed to the screenplay nomination but he does nothing for me as an actor. Too much association with Fuckerberg for me. The good news is that it is barely 90 minutes long. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8562392

So true, three years in a row the best supporting Oscar went to three actors in a leading role (Mahershala Ali in Green Book, Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and The Black Messiah). I feel bad for the veteran actors, character actors and newbies who got screwed out of a nomination because of studio strategizing. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8562617
ShadowHunter January 25 Share January 25 Emilia Perez and Adrian Brody seem to be the Awards Villains this season. The reactions to all the nominations for Perez have been hilarious. While I agree the score to Challengers was snubbed I don't feel the movie was robbed in other places the way many others feel it was. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8563944

kittykat January 31 Share January 31 The press behind Emilia Perez is so toxic that I do wonder if it will win anything. Zoe Saldana was the frontrunner but Grande or Jones could get late momentum. Best Actress seems to be a toss up between Demi Moore and Fernanda Torres. As far as Adrien Brody goes I know he won the globe but Oscar seems to have a hard on for Chalamet that I think he's taking it. I'm still hoping Ralph Fiennes gets his long overdue accolades. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8569059

slowpoked Thursday at 12:58 PM Share Thursday at 12:58 PM This is a welcome change. I’ve always favored acting clips over individual tributes. There are small movies with nominees that a lot of people have not seen, and a small clip will help some in understanding why they’re nominated, and in some cases, win. And as shown by the mini-scandal last year, it’s never a good idea for 5 people to try to swarm an already overwhelmed winner onstage: Quote As for the past, the Oscars are also bringing back an old way of introducing the nominees. That means playing a variety of film clips as acting nominees are introduced, something that had been missing from the ceremony the past few years. https://variety.com/2025/film/awards/oscars-film-clips-return-producers-1236320740/ 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151550-the-97th-academy-awards/#findComment-8592850

Coincidentally, I was just reading an article on THR about how the In Memoriam segment is always one of the most controversial parts of the show. A part of the article just came true: Quote The job is so complicated that Kapoor and Mullan say that as of our Feb. 10 interview, they’d already screened 11 different versions of the 2025 montage and could still see a dozen more. And though the music is coordinated down to the second, space is allotted in case a major talent dies just before the show. In fact, the montage isn’t locked until the last dress rehearsal on the morning of the show. I would also assume Gene would now get the coveted last spot: Quote As for the coveted last spot — Oscar stans know it’s historically reserved for a true VIP — one obvious contender this year is Lynch. Schulman predicts Quincy Jones, who has exec produced the Oscars.
