It's getting tiresome watching Amy laugh uproariously at her own non-jokes.

I knew the introduction of the Spotted Dick dessert was going to take up five minutes of giggling time.

So Tammy ruined the first family vacation, Amy ruined the second, and now it looks like Amy is going for two out of three.

Kudos to Tammy and Amanda for seemingly burying the hatchet.

I loved the shot of the whole family with their heads in their hands as Amy had her meltdown.

So their 9th great grandfather not only came over on the Mayflower but he was the navigator.  Who would have guessed.

The whole Spotted Dick thing has been done to death on every show where so called backward Americans happen to luck out and go to England.  It was funny the first time I heard it.  Now?  Not at all.  It's like expecting us to be shocked every time we run across a guy named Dick.  Just no!!!  NEXT!!!  🙄

Amy is the most annoying reality TV person who ever reality tv'd!!!  She has the mentality of a 5 year old. (And I don't mean to insult 5 year olds.)  Farting on the plane?!  Farting in public period makes me want to ship her ass to a different planet.  When even Tammy says you're embarrassing then you really need to stop it!!!

Through the years, I've seen TV shows/movies where some high society person will proudly say, "My ancestors came over on the Mayflower."  I sort of just assumed that a Mayflower descendant would be pretty upper crust.  Well, that theory has been blown out of the water.

So, who exactly is carting Queen Tammy's scooter all around London? The production staff, I suppose. They aren't showing all the loading and unloading from the buses and cabs.

Tammy was "tired" from all that activity exiting the cab and just couldn't walk a few feet. And she nearly died climbing those stairs at the restaurant. After dropping 450 pounds, or whatever it was, how is she STILL unable to move? At all. Is it her excess skin or did she blow out her knees and hips?

Amy is gross on every level, and Tammy in her talking heads is not cute, ever. Ever. Those two are the worst part of this show.

I muted Amy a few times. So sick of her thinking being vulgar is hilarious . Also very tired of the endless bullshit of being related to royalty because even if they were it wouldn’t make any difference to their lives.
Nobody should have gone after Amy when she stormed out of the pub. She had production people with her, she speaks the language, it was day time and nothing would have happened to her. Everyone else should have sat back and enjoyed their lunch.

I have never watched this show but came across it last week. Horrified that these ignorant bumpkins would be featured showing their crude selves in a foreign country. Every time Amy laughs at her dumb jokes I want to smash the TV.

Bravo sends the housewives abroad for them to get drunk, scream, curse and  fight. This is TLC's answer to Bravo.

I think that explains why the Pilgrims ended up in Massachusetts instead of Virginia (which I believe is where they were actually headed!)

Actually, people on the Mayflower weren't upper crust; many were escaping poverty and religious persecution, looking for a better way of life.  And a lot of the Mayflower passengers died that first winter in America.

Tammy's legs are totally destroyed from her weight.    I suspect a double knee replacement is in her future, and probably hip and ankle surgeries also.

But pop culture (at least in my day--I'm old) has usually portrayed their descendants as upper crust for some reason.  I'll have to read more on this topic.

Bless your heart.  You picked a bad one for your first watch, as the regulars knew how this was going to be, and could figure spotted dick would be served.

I can just picture Amy & Tammy at a Mayflower bunch gathering.  Sort of like them joining the DAR!

I've read up a bit on it.  There are apparently millions of descendants of the Mayflower.  (It's like when I read that there are millions of people descended from European royalty.  We sometimes forget how fast people multiply.)  There's a Mayflower Society, an organization for Mayflower descendants, who, among other things, give out scholarships to descendants.

eta:

I found this:

Quote

General Society of Mayflower Descendants estimates that there are 35 million living descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims worldwide, and 10 million in the United States.

Regarding the upper crust pop culture references, from what I can find, the legend seems to be manufactured by an early group of descendants (possibly the 19th century descendants).  Because they had no titles, they manufactured this myth of being a sort of prestigious 'old money' type.  It made them more distinctive and the legend grew.

Weren't a lot of them people who needed to get away from England, for various reasons, or people who were  down on their luck?

They actually landed first in Provincetown on Cape Cod, where they stayed about six months before moving on to Plymouth.  Oops!

Did Amanda ALWAYS coddle Amy when she turned on the waterworks while growing up (actually there are no tears; she just screws up her face and rubs her eyes)?  If so, that explains why she still keeps it up to this day when she craves attention.  Ignore her and enjoy your vacation!

Amy has no resilience. Any obstacles large or small causes her to break down and cry. She would really benefit from therapy to give her coping skills and strategies.

I still don't like her- she's rude, foul-mouthed and entitled.

Since no one is mentioning where her boys are, am guessing Michael has them during this boondoggle to England.

She DID mention that Micheal was keeping them.  You know all that crying isn't real, right?

Thanks @Dibs. I was folding laundry while watching, so I do miss things. Even if the tears aren't always real, I still believe Amy does not cope well with stress.

Doesn't Michael's mother usually have them when Amy doesn't?  Hope she's a loving grandmother, because those boys need someone like that in their little lives.

The farting and crude humor has over stayed it's welcome, as far as I'm concerned.

I know it is their personality and  I never minded it at first but I think they think that is why people watch the show.  Their jokes are tired.

Yeah,  spotted dick ,  ha ha ha,  oh and there's cream. I am just tired of the obvious and overdone attempts at humor.

Why was Amy so upset at that Mayflower place? I know the steps were hard for Tammy. But Tammy is able to say no and opt out.  We've seen that before. I don't know what kind of laws there for for accommodating the handicapped in England. Some of the old buildings might be exempt from being handicapped accessible?   I do not know. But I think Amy was on the verge of making a scene about it, and that is why they told her to hush.

They should have let her go. She is not a child.

I thought they had a thread for the 1000 lb Best friend show. I can't find it anymore. But anyway, it reminded me of the time when they went on a glamping trip and the one lady had to run around outside naked, and another was so embarrassed. I thought that was awful behavior and I do not blame the other lady for being upset. There are other people staying there who might not be thrilled to see a 400 something pound naked lady running around.  I guess my point is, that I understand if someone else's behavior can be embarrassing when you are with them. It does reflect on you to a point.  People should be themselves and not be afraid of that but also,  in public places you need to have some consideration for other people.

All public buses in London are accessible, with ramps and dedicated spaces where a wheelchair or scooter user parks and sits.  There are countless public bus routes that are great for site seeing.  They chose, for the sake of drama, to take private tour buses, then complain how hard it was to climb the stairs to the top. She could have stayed on the first level and still seen the sites, just like they all did when it started raining.

Michael lives with his mom, and when he has the boys she takes care of them, I'm assuming Michael works so she babysits.

Amy cries at will, it's anytime she's not getting her way, or wants to be the center of attention.

Also, next weeks episodes are the season finales for both 1,000 lb Sisters, and 1,000 lb Best Friends.

When was this filmed? They kept referring to “the Queen”. Queen Elizabeth died 2 years ago!

Amy is a dullard. Not surprised if she's completely unaware. Tammy asking the travel agent about getting a translator. Yawn. Is she that ignorant or playing for the cameras? Who knows? Who cares? I don't know why I continue to watch this show, but I do. It is becoming harder, though.

I'm not sure the sisters know the difference in Queens, or anything else.  And the potatoes they were whining about were not prepared the usual way, the recipes I found show potatoes, salt, lots of butter, and not the stuff the sisters were whining about.   Totally a story line.

There was one episode when Amy first talked about wanting to go to England to see the queen in her interview and one of the production team told her the queen was dead.  Of course she just made a joke of it.  Her stupidity never wavers.

Which is pretty much ALL the time. I just have to mute the remote or change channels when Amy is on.

And her stupid faces and comments she made regarding her bangers and mash meal at that restaurant. Show some respect and appreciation for the servers AND getting a free meal paid for by TLC. It's funny how Amy can eat her own homemade slop and think it's good. I wish she would just get axed from this show.

Next episode we'll probably have to listen to her describe how her farts smelled after she ate that meal.

It's surprising how much dumber Amy is than her siblings, even Tammy.

1000-lb Sisters London Trip: Spotted Dick Recipe

As seen on 1000-lb Sisters! Follow this recipe to make your own delicious UK dessert.

Recipe Courtesy of Food Network

monkeybusinessimages

A 1000-lb Sisters dessert to remember! Amy, Tammy, and their family got a kick out of this traditional steamed pudding's name during their trip to London — and they loved the taste even more. Here's how you can whip up spotted dick at home.

INGREDIENTS:

2 tbsp brandy

5 oz currants

1 oz soft butter for greasing

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 tbsp baking powder

1/3 cup superfine sugar

5 oz shredded suet

1/8 cup butter, melted

2 juiced lemons and lemon zest

1 egg

5 fl oz whole milk

5 fl ozl double cream

DIRECTIONS:

Warm the brandy until it is just simmering and throw in the currants. Remove from the heat and allow to infuse for at least 30 mins.

Grease a piece of greaseproof paper or wax paper, measuring about 60cm square with the soft butter.

Whisk the flour, baking powder and caster sugar together in a bowl. Stir in the currants (drain any liquid off and reserve) and suet. Add the melted butter, then stir in the lemon juice and zest and egg.

Stir the reserved juice from the currants, milk and cream together and then add to the mix in the bowl slowly, stirring until you reach a dropping consistency. You may not need to use all of it.

Spoon the mixture into the paper and roll it up into a sausage shape about 6cm in diameter. Be careful not to roll it up too tightly, otherwise the mixture will not be able to rise sufficiently and will be heavy rather than light when cooked.

Tie at the ends with some string and place the pudding in a hot steamer fitted with a lid, over steaming water. Cover and steam for 1¼ hrs until cooked. Check the bottom of the steamer from time to time and make sure you keep it topped up with hot water.

Remove the pudding from the steamer and unwrap.

I just watched this episode while wrapping gifts.

There were times I could not understand what the heck Amy or Tammy was saying,  and I had to rewind and read the subtitles.

The whole family, except the brother and his wife, are beyobd crude and rude... and still chastising each other about their language and behavior.

Amanda needs to just shut up and ignore Amy and Tammy. She exacerbates a bad situation into worse and then complains about them acting up like when Amy was whiningat the restaurant about Tammy's pain.  Amanda sh have just read the menu ans been quiet. She's  controlling and a manipulator.
