The minerals in question are "rare earth" minerals. 🤦♀️ Then there's an oldie but a goody that's still in his repertoire: Brown people crossing the southern border are coming from insane asylums. Bastet March 6 Share March 6 7 hours ago, Notabug said: When these numbers were determined, the government did an assessment and found the overall rate of fraudulent accounts was so low, that it would cost more to find and prosecute that tiny number than could be saved. They also did remove the fraudulent accounts they found, many of which involve people using social security numbers of dead people for other purposes and not actually collecting social security or people who died before death records were computerized and therefore their date of death had never been entered into the system. Yeah, there was an article posted upthread that gave a clear explanation of Musk's "misreading" (to be generous with characterization) of SS data as the basis of his outlandish claims about tens of millions of dead people getting SS (when there are only 67 million recipients total; really, dude, half of them are actually dead?) -- because when you talk to people who actually know the databases (plural) and their history, rather than techbros, it turns out to be quite simple: Quote Another database, experts said, is called Numident and contains a record of every person who has ever been assigned a Social Security number. There are people in the system, they said, who have died but don't have a date of death recorded because they lived long before electronic records were established. This data set, experts said, has nothing to do with monthly payments but appears to be very likely where Musk is getting information that there are millions of people ages 100 to 369 in the system. Justin Wolfers, a professor of public policy and economics at the University of Michigan, said it is "transparently obvious that he's misinterpreting or misrepresenting" the data but noted Musk is not "showing his work." Musk has not explicitly said where he is getting the data he is posting to social media. Still, his insinuations that the presence of such information within SSA is nefarious or new is also misleading, experts said. The government has known the Numident system is flawed in this way for years, according to audits. A 2023 inspector general's report found nearly 19 million people born before 1920 who do not have death information in the record. The SSA decided not to address discrepancies because of how much it would cost to fix (upwards of $9 million) and the "limited benefit" it would have on the agency, the report noted. Romig, who previously worked in the Social Security Administration, also emphasized there are multiple checks in place to prevent deceased individuals from getting payments. The agency has a policy to automatically stop payments at the age of 115, and after a certain age they check to see that older beneficiaries are still using Medicare benefits. 9 2 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600047

Anela March 6 Share March 6 (edited) Little tip. If you use your library card to borrow e-books from your library and Libby as the way to read them, Libby also has an option to read borrowed e-books using the Kindle app and because the books are borrowed, Amazon gets no money from it. https://www.threads.net/@tanyacontois/post/DG34f4eSJeH?xmt=AQGzULfHRFvGieAdYmMRcLpbgGX6vGX-GTzKNAyOnBjZNg This is how I read my Libby books, so I’m glad that Amazon gets no money from it. 5 minutes ago, isalicat said: Whatever you may think about Trump, believing Epstein about *anything* is incredibly laughable. And Trump cut off Epstein decades before Clinton, Gates and Hawkins stopped using the Epstein jet to get to the island...just sayin... So? He was still friends with him, and called him *a lot*. He also laughed when he talked about how Epstein “likes them young” and also bragged about how he was allowed to walk into the dressing rooms of naked, or half-naked teenage girls, because he owned the pageant. How is that okay? Edited March 6 by Anela 19 1 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600085

The news these days is disseminated by political activists, not journalists. Best example today was Reuters reporting that the Trump admin was going to deport all the Ukrainian refugees in the U.S. which was debunked within the hour but still repeated across the media landscape. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600088
Trini March 6 Share March 6 So sorry, Canadians. Just know most Americans do not agree with trying to make enemies out of our best neighbors. (And for what? Greed? Pride?? This is all so stupid....) Do what y'all gotta do with the boycotts; but I know it will have some impact on U.S. retail. I work in retail, and even though my town is about 3 hours from the Canadian border, we get lots of Canadian tourists passing through our shopping districts. 19 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600121

Mayors of some major cities were in front of Congress to talk about sanctuary cities. Republicans were of course antagonistic. But the lovely Jasmine Crockett spoke up. I am so looking forward to a Walz/Crockett presidential ticket in 2028! She claims Trump is trying to send Black people "back to the fields" and Walz has functionally vanished from any visible Democratic leadership role since the last campaign when he was about as ineffectual as you can get. 😸 In the meantime, Sebastian Zapeta, the guy accused of setting a woman on fire on the New York City subway, won't be deported because of NYC's sanctuary city policies despite being previously deported in 2018 and returning illegally again to live on the taxpayer dime in Brooklyn for the last five years. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600134
Popular Post suomi March 7 Popular Post Share March 7 (edited) Court rules Trump’s firing of labor board official illegal, saying president is not a king Judge orders reinstatement of Gwynne Wilcox to National Labor Relations Board after her removal by US president Gwynne Wilcox was the first member of the National Labor Relations Board to be removed by a US president since the board’s inception in 1935. The framers of the US constitution “made clear that no one in our system of government was meant to be king – the President included – and not just in name only”, the judge Beryl A Howell, wrote in the ruling. Howell presided over the hearing held on Wednesday on a motion for summary judgment in the District of Columbia. “The President does not have the authority to terminate members of the National Labor Relations Board at will, and his attempt to fire plaintiff from her position on the Board was a blatant violation of the law,” she wrote. “A president who touts an image of himself as a ‘king’ or a ‘dictator,’ perhaps as his vision of effective leadership, fundamentally misapprehends the role under Article II of the US Constitution,” wrote Howell. Article II of the US Constitution outlines the executive powers and responsibilities of the president. Howell continued, “in our constitutional order, the president is tasked to be a conscientious custodian of the law, albeit an energetic one, to take care of effectuating his enumerated duties, including the laws enacted by the Congress and as interpreted by the Judiciary”. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/06/trump-labor-board-firing-gwynne-wilcox Edited March 7 by suomi 3 24 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/189/#findComment-8600157
ProudMary March 7 Share March 7 There has been a good deal of coverage about the ten Democrats who voted with the Republicans to censure Rep. Al Green, and it's important that we're aware of this, but there's more to today's censure story. As Rep. Green was called to the well of the House chamber, he was accompanied by about 20 Democratic House members, who sang "We Shall Overcome." A very moving show of protest in solidarity with Congressman Green. So, the undocumented immigrant should be deported, and the 34-times convicted felon, is a great president. Got it. The man who set a woman on fire, shouldn't get away with it. Neither should trump. He thanked one of the Justices on his way out, the other night, and said, "I won't forget."
