PRgal May 10 Share May 10 (edited) Historica Canada just dropped its latest Heritage Minute, right in time for Jewish Heritage Month: Historica Canada has been producing Heritage Minutes, bits and pieces of Canada's history as a form of educating Canadians and other people who live in the country (and abroad!) for decades. Or should this have been on the feminist thread? p.s. In case you're wondering, there's one for Asian Heritage Month (also May) too. It dropped last year: Edited May 10 by PRgal 1 1 2 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8657776

But Trump kiled it, and his party folded and went along with his demand the right not support it, because god forbid Biden and the Democrats get a win. Trump supporters need to understand, the GOP has absolutely no interest in actually legitimately solving any issues relating to immigration and the border. They won't ever support any actual real solutions to the issue, solutions that would protect people here AND those who come from other counttries and keep everyone safe, whether they're U.S. citizens or not. No, they'll be happy to let the chaos continue so they can keep the issue going as their main culture war topic to run on and fire up their base (when they aren't taking the time out of their day to beat up on transgender people or the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, that is). Oh, sure, they'll happily pull stunts like the sort they're doing now, with ICE raids and going after individuals and sending them to horrific prisons, but all of that has nothing to do with actually solving the border crisis and everything to do with making their racist and xenophobic base happy. And if you're a Trump supporter who is cheering on these insane raids and harassment of individuals for simply lookng "suspicious" or "illegal", then congratulations, you're playing right into their hands and proving to the rest of us just how racist and xenophobic you really are. And the projection. I'm sick of hearing that the Democrats need to lay off identity politics when that is all the Republicans want to talk about and all the have ever talked about. If his administration really thought it was important to produce a bill, they would have done it a lot sooner. Obviously Trump does not have the abilities to prepare or remember REAL data to present as a capable, non-senile person in charge of anything. No buck stops here at his (soon-to-be-painted) gold desk. He's over it. T doesn't even care enough or have presence of mind to present a vague, non-libelous statement about what's going on. Sad state of affairs for the US. Also, the statement from his defenders--"I don't know what's going on in his mind"-- is also a non answer-- meaning you cannot back up your defense of his actions with any background or logical information, so it's a cop-out. And then cry 'victim', as the the whole Repub party is wont to do when asked for accountability or simple honesty. Or resort to whataboutism, the last lonely cry of those without a leg to stand on to defend their reasoning for backing the ones in charge NOW. Why is he going after his perceived enemies of 2020 Because he never got over losing the election. No amount of getting even with them is ever enough enough for him. He will fight to the death trying to get back at them and take us all down with him. Quote For all the MAGAS who continue to berate Kamala Harris as someone who can’t put a sentence together or you think inappropriately laughs you must never listen to the mush minded president who can’t put a sentence together says inappropriate things all day and night and into the wee hours of the morning putting out messages in all caps on his “truth” social It really gets me that all they have against Kamala are surface stuff like her laugh while Trump babbles on incoherently constantly, saying more wackadoodle things in an hour than Biden or Harris have said all together. But they never seem to notice. If all they have on someone are surface annoyances they really don't have anything at all. At least Biden and Harris committed minor flubs, not big honking crazy stuff like Trump. The worst I could say about Kamala is that she didn't counter some of the misinformation about her enough during her campaign. On 5/7/2025 at 8:35 AM, Annber03 said: Obama didn't turn our country into a fucking Gestapo when handling issues relating to immigration, the way Trump has. And even then, he still got plenty of criticism from the left especially about his immigration policy. Because, see, unlike Trump supporters, wer'e actually capable of criticizing our own party and leaders when need be. (I find it interesting you point out Obama's stance on immigration, though, considering one of the big complaints from the right ins that the left supposedly wants open borders and wants our country "flooded with illegal immigrants". So which is it? Either they're just as bad/tough as Trump is and should get the same amount of scrutiny as he does, or they're too lax and Trump came in to be the tough guy. You don't get to have it both ways.) And all I heard after the election was that Trump won because of the economy. Supposedly people voted for him because he was going to fix our economy. And he clearly has not done that - you yourself have acknowledged he's screwed up your 401k - and yet he still isn't getting the same kind of criticism from Trump supporters that Biden got. Because the bottom line is that it never REALLY was about the economy. People who voted for him did so because they shared his vile sentiments about women and minorities and will be totally fine with our deconomy and that of the global economy being tanked if it means going after those pesky brown people and LGBTQ+ people and making sure women know their place. That's the real reason they're not turning on him, and I wish they'd just be honest about that already instead of trying to hide behind "secure our borders" BS (which, I will remind you, he has NOT done, he's only exacerbated all the issues the right supposedly has with immigrants, he hasn't solved shit and innocent people who are born and raised here or who came here t hrough legal means are being caught in the crossfire) or "he'll fix our economy" BS. Yeah, I remember when Biden was getting modked on the international stage for his complete lack of understanding of how tarriffs work and talking about wanting to buy Greenland and make Canada the 51st state and... ...oh, wait, that wasn't Biden? This is the MAGA way of diminishing all Biden's accomplishments and handwaving away the reality that Biden left the US with a good economy and a good reputation on the world stage. Funny how I can't recall one instance of Biden going on an all night bender ranting on social media in ALL CAPS. I also can't recall Biden meeting with a world leader and meandering on and on about erasing borders and turning that nation into the 51st state. I also can't recall Biden telling the nation's children that they need to be content with 2 dolls because billionaires need to make even more profit so mommy and daddy will just have to tighten their belts for the foreseeable future. That his supporters are still trying to play the Biden card here is pathetic. Again, another fantastic and true post. That Trump supporters still play the Biden card here is not only pathetic but crazy. Just how brainwashed do you have to BE? I don't get it. I could never be that brainwashed. I remember when I learned about the Nazis and WWII in school I couldn't get over it. I knew that nothing could ever make me buy into that crap. Sometimes being generally skeptical is a good thing. It also helps to have decent values and a belief in human rights above all else. Scapegoating people is just wrong. Prejudice is just wrong. It doesn't matter if they came here illegally or not or where they came from. None of us is perfect but we can't stand for anything based on these things. I also learned thanks to my education that any platform or belief system that's THAT one sided and extreme could never be worth buying into. You have to ask yourself what you are fighting for or against and if it's really as good/bad as all that and worth your support. Usually, when exposed to critical thinking the truth lies somewhere in between, as usual. Extremism so bad that you can't even see the other side of the coin is very dangerous. We should have learned that lesson from the Nazis but unfortunately many people have not. And that's dangerous and sad. On 5/7/2025 at 5:29 PM, graybrown bird said: This. Pretty much everything he accuses the other side of he is guilty of himself tenfold. Honestly, I just wish they could see themselves. It's juvenile and immature to an extreme degree. If someone is that much of an idol to you, you are handing them your brain, your freedom and your very life to manipulate at their will for their purposes. And for what? Are they to be trusted with it? How someone could think Trump can be trusted with all of that really boggles my mind. What justification could they possibly give for it? NO ONE save for perhaps God (if you're a believer) can be trusted with that. But people have replaced God with Trump or at least equated him with God or a godlike being. And it's pure idolatry. I don't know of any Democrats no matter how far left in the U.S. that engage in that kind of idolatry, or any idolatry of one person. It's pretty sad when many comments under a NYT article on the new Pope from lapsed Catholics, non-Catholics and even non-religious people are saying that they wish the new Pope could be the president instead of Trump. I never thought I'd see the day when anyone except the most hard core Roman Catholics would EVER say THAT. The tit for tat needs to stop because we're all just spinning our wheels and getting nowhere fast. None of this is true, but I don't blame you. This is the tale that FOX, OAN and all other right-wing media is spinning. What happened in Newark yesterday is a watershed moment. Getting the facts straight now is important. I'll begin with some written context from March, followed by a YouTube clip featuring live video that includes the three US Reps who had a scheduled appointment at the facility, who were assaulted by the "ICE Agents." I put that in quotes because we have no idea who these "agents" are. They're not wearing any badges, they're not showing any ID, and they are hiding their identities behind masks. They are secret police! (Video length is 7:19.) Also, of tremendous importance, Mayor Baraka, was not only arrested, he was also disappeared for a substantial period of time yesterday, before he was ultimately released. During the period following his (illegal) arrest, Trump attorney Alina Habba spoke to the media and was asked where Msyor Baraka was being held. She refused to give that information. It should slso be added that Mayor Baraka, who has served as the Mayor of NJ's largest city for more than a decade, is currently running for Governor of the state. Yesterday's actions by this regime were the latest test of just how much they can get away with. They've upped the ante from immigrants to political opponents. It shouldn't be lost on anyone that Mayor Baraka is Black, and that two of the three Reps who were assaulted are Black women. This is not by chance. Edited to add: Who was on the other end of that phone call to the "ICE Agent" that gave the order to arrest the Mayor of NJ's largest city? Newark Issues 'Stop Work' Order On New ICE Detention Center https://patch.com/new-jersey/newarknj/newark-issues-stop-work-order-new-ice-detention-center Quote Baraka, who has been a vocal critic of the plan, said Monday that the city is filing a complaint with Essex County Superior Court because ICE has opened their Delaney Hall facility “without following proper building safety protocols.” “They failed to give city officials access to conduct inspections required under municipal ordinances and state code,” the mayor alleged. “This violates city and state law.” Baraka’s statement continued: “The city was informed that construction work is taking place in the building without required permits. The Department of Engineering imposed a stop work order to halt any and all construction on the site today. Two ICE officials and the GEO Group facility director on site were made aware of the violations. In addition, ICE has failed to apply for construction permits, continued certificates of occupancy, and requests to change the building’s use. The agreement between ICE and the GEO Group to use Delaney Hall with the intention of incarcerating and holding immigrants slated for deportation does not supersede the ordinances and procedures legislated by the City of Newark and the state of New Jersey.” “We will not tolerate federal attempts to ignore or evade our laws and statutes, which apply to everyone,” the mayor added. It isn’t the first time that Baraka has raised a red flag about the plans for Delaney Hall. He issued a similar statement in reaction to ICE’s announcement in February, saying that the facility “cannot lawfully open in Newark” without satisfying city property-use requirements, inspections and permits. ProudMary May 10 Share May 10 More important info on what happened in Newark yesterday from one of the Reps involved. They were ultimately allowed to tour the facility, because the law says so. It kept me from doing an all caps reply that I would surely have been warned about. And, today, they are talking about arresting the 3 congresspeople. I'm livid. From Politico via Yahoo news Believe me, I tempered my fury while responding, but it does make it easier when the facts back up one's fury. First the regime arrested a judge (WI), then a Mayor and now they want to arrest members of Congress. This cannot stand. 5 2 2 6 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658445

Perish the thought. [/sarcasm] But honestly, if a woman does get on the ticket, my money is on AOC. Oh I know because heaven forbid the Republicans don't attack them without resorting to identity politics. I don't want those two because they're gay/woman. I want them because they're qualified and have been two of the most outspoken critics of the Trump 2.0 administration since Day One. 17 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658460

Why would government agents doing government approved tasks need to wear masks? Possibles: they are ashamed of what they're doing; they feel it makes them seem more intimidating. What is not possible is they fear retribution. Absolute nonsense. But somehow I suspect that's what they will tell their Maga supporters who have amply demonstrated that they will believe anything. 4 3 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658487

If Congress doesn't step up and do it's job then they are Hitler's Willing Executioners and it's horrifying to watch this happening in real time. Trump went from "everything will be cheaper" to "you will have some financial pain" to "your kids won't have toys for Christmas" to "I'm gonna have a birthday parade that will cost $92 million" within 100 days. Only Trump could bankrupt truth, compassion and the federal budget in under 100 days and still have people cheering for the parade. #DonTheCon Via the democratic coalition Good god, that picture. I assume that is Barron riding on that lion. I remember trying to figure out who would have a house big enough for the lifesized replica stuffed animals, although that is a small one. Not a full sized buffalo or Giraffe. It is fantastic, I mean full of fantasy, that he somehow pulls this tone deaf nonsense off. Is it television? What causes brains to short circuit and think this is fine? 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658500

I "saved" the video in my YouTube account, and am attempting to save it to The Internet Archive. I am curious to read an interview with one of these armed, masked agents. Eventually there will be some. Edited May 10 by shapeshifter 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658502

Because the "ICE Agents" are likely Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, et.al. including some of the J6 insurrectionists who were pardoned almost immediately after DJT took office again. People who would need to keep their identities hidden. True ICE Agents and CBP Agents, like those at the border, identify themselves as such. They wear ID tags and/or badges. In many situations, they have warrants, not always the correct warrants, but some type of document that connects them to the legal system. That is NOT what we're seeing here or in many of these disappearing incidents across the country. 6 1 3 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/276/#findComment-8658509
