Trump has cut funding for food banks in northeast Ohio.  Is that why you’re dancing?

Kamala voters weren’t voting to destroy anyone’s world.

To be charitable raucous dancing probably helps drown out the agonized cry of the suffering and the death rattle of the dying. MAGA!

This reminds me of a photo that showed up on my FB a little while ago of a group of  SS officers enjoying some free time away from their grueling jobs killing people at Auschwitz.

It's probably the most honest Trump supporter comment I've seen. Open acknowledgement that the goal has always been destruction, cruelty and vindictiveness.

Yep. I take it as a sign that Trump’s actions have gotten so extreme that even the illusion of reasonability is gone now for anyone who is actually paying attention. The standard justifications have been stripped away.

Thank you for sharing this photo. For those who might not know, it's from the Höcker Album, a collection of mostly casual photos of SS personnel at Auschwitz and discovered long after the war. Solid evidence of man's ability to get used to almost anything.

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Höcker_Album

I'm guessing it's probably Stephen Miller's all-time favorite album.

Okay, so then why won't a number of men vote for a woman?

Because despite what some want to believe, and will desperately search for a woman gone rogue to back up that belief, the statistics simply don't back up the assumption that women are just as bad as men.  And not all men of course, but a significant number will always think of women as being lesser beings.  Or prey.

There's a great meme I saw the other day that went:

Man: So if all the men disappear who will protect you?

Woman: Who would we need to be protected from if all the men disappear?

We are seeing the MAGA mindset at work here in Canada right now with the people we are calling Maple MAGAs.

I live in rural Alberta, and I work with quite a few Maple Magas. I try not to engage in any politics talk with them, because they will give you a hard time if they find out you're not conservative, which is hilarious because we are a union workplace and I know the conservatives would work to demolish every union if they could.  Oh well, no one said conservatives are smart.

I also don't think there are any liberal candidates in my riding, so I'm going to have to vote NDP. I like the NDP, but I know there's no way they'll get the prime minister seat, so now I feel like I'm throwing my vote away. I wish I could vote for the person and not the party!

I wish we had ranked choice here. They have it in Alaska and they were able to kick Sarah Palin out of politics permanently up there.

There is now a measles outbreak in Ohio.  Unvaccinated adult men.  Wonder if they all live together on a commune somewhere.

I'm sure he's serious but I agree it's mainly a distraction.  Don't worry about what's going on right now, worry about four years from now.

Gotta feel for the guy though, he's in a place where he's got the support to make him king for life but he's already 78 years old.  Even kings don't get to live forever.  Even though it may feel like forever to the rest of us.

And are you really happy that I'm worrying right now? For at least two days I haven't been able to log into the "My Social Security" site and there's NO EXPLANATION given by the government for this. No technical issues, no outage, no breach, no planned maintenance. WTF? I worked HARD and saved my whole life for this freaking moment and now it's OK if I don't get what's due me?

I know it's probably little to no consolation, but I am able to get into my account.  The system is running very, very slowly tonight.  I've read that the servers have gone down a few times recently due to the heavy user load.  I hope that's all that has been the problem for you.  Another piece that may help is we are not connecting directly with the payment computers so this outage should not effect getting your check at all.

Thanks. I still wasn't able to get in using Chrome but decided to try Edge and somehow got in.

This is the message I get about the status of my application:

Quote

Your claim has been approved but will continue to show pending until the month you elected to start your benefits.

Example - If you chose August 2021 to start benefits, your claim status will show pending until on or about August 10, 2021.  After this time, your claim status will be updated to show the application process is complete. We will mail you a notice within 10-15 days of completing the application process.

I'm not sure what to make of that. My husband said 2 years ago the site was much more specific about when he would get his payment and how much it would be. I know what the estimates say it should be but I mean the actual payment after the Medicare premium is taken out, etc.

IMNSHO, it's because deep down inside a lot of men do not respect females...or, respect them anywhere as much as they respect their own gender. A lot of them don't like women.

Yes, it's that but it's also that a lot of them still think that women are inferior to men in general. They don't trust a woman to have the ability to do the job a man can do. Or they only see women as suited to do certain jobs, and especially the job of president is not one of them. Because to them president is to be the leader or the "big boss" and only men can be big bosses and leaders in their minds. A lot of them are not even conscious that this is how they think. It's ingrained in their unconscious minds. Others are more conscious of it.

Why won't anyone say it straight-out to his face that that shit is illegal?

He thinks he's going to be able to make it legal through what he thinks is a loophole in the Constitution that says a president can't serve 3 consecutive terms. And he has not served 2 consecutive terms so that wouldn't apply to him. But everyone that knows anything about this says that the wording provides no basis for that interpretation. And even if Trump tried to change the rule it would take too much time and would likely fail to get voted in by the House and Senate because a 2/3 majority is needed and Republicans have a very slim majority.

Still, I wouldn't say we shouldn't worry about it. After all this guy seems to be able to do anything he damn well pleases and no one stops him. I am VERY pissed off about that and don't get how even attempts to stop him always seem to fail. That political expert friend I have is always talking me off the ledge about Trump but every time he says "This time he won't be able to get away with it", he somehow DOES anyway. I am sick of it!

They probably do. He probably stares blankly until they go away.

The Democrat response should be Obama reenacting training scenes from the Rocky movies. Someone asks why he does that, he just shrugs and says, “No real reason. Yet.”

Since when has this guy taken "no" for an answer? He thinks he is above the rules, they don't apply to him. He can thumb his nose at them. He says, "Laws? Schmaws". He wipes his bottom with the Constitution. And so far he has gotten his way with everything. Because NO ONE could ever even imagine or anticipate that the American people would vote in someone that would have this mentality and act this way. We assumed that Americans would know better than to vote in someone that would act like a fascist dictator. And for many, many years that was the case. We had some bad actors, but nothing even CLOSE to this. It's unprecedented. And that's why we are unprepared to stop it and every attempt to stop it has failed.

I have to say, it's extremely ironic how some men apparently expect women to cater to their every whim and trust them enough to wait on them hand and foot and run the household...

...but apparently they can't seem to extend that same line of thinking to a woman being able to run, y'know, an entire freaking country.

But of course, if a woman's running an entire country, it means she's accountable to LOTS of people and can't just spend her days mothering and coddling a man anymore, 'Cause god forbid some men out there learn that the world doesn't revolve solely around them and their wants and needs.

Wait, I was wrong about one thing - The one thing he didn't get away with was turning over the results of the 2020 election. And that's one big reason we're seeing this temper tantrum in slow motion from him now. He was waiting 4 years to get revenge on all of us for not letting him get his way on that. There's hell to pay for it when he doesn't. He'll burn down the whole world around him now to get back at those people who didn't let him prevail. And the rest are just poor schmucks and "losers" who happened to be in the way. Collateral damage.

All I can say is that in two years a lot can change.  If they were getting too many phone calls about a particular part of that info, then yes they'd remove it to save themselves the pain.  If there were errors in what was showing, etc, they'd change it.  They also have had the added burden of extra claims from the law change and that could easily have lead them to change what appears.

A friend called me the other day because she and her husband interpreted her benefits letter differently.  I'm not sure they both understood what I was telling them.  So they will change things based on how well the public does with the info.  That letter my friend received definitely needs to be rewritten.  I'll warn you about the letter as yours may be similar.  It apparently is not good explaining the difference between benefit and payment.  The benefit is the total entitlement and the payment is after medicare, taxes (if you opt to have them deducted, etc.).  At least that's what is was when I worked there.

from the article:

Trump says ‘there are methods’ for seeking third term in White House

In interview Trump said he wasn’t joking when he alluded to a purported loophole for a third term as president

"Well, there are plans,” Trump said to Welker. “There are – not plans. There are methods – there are methods which you could do it, as you know.”

Welker alluded to a purported loophole some Trump supporters have fantasized about finding in which he could be the running mate to his vice-president, JD Vance, or someone else in the 2028 election. The person to whom Trump would be the running mate in that scenario could then immediately resign after winning and being sworn in as president, letting Trump take over by succession.

Their argument would be that the constitution’s 22nd amendment only explicitly bans being “elected” to more than two presidential terms without saying anything about becoming the commander-in-chief on an additional occasion through succession.

Vance has not indicated he is interested in participating in such a plan. And an election law professor at Notre Dame, Derek Muller, told the Associated Press that the constitution’s 12th amendment says “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of president shall be eligible to that of vice-president of the United States.”

Muller said that indicates that if Trump is not eligible to run for president again because of the 22nd amendment, he is not eligible to run for the vice-presidency, either.

More on the awesome job Jr’s doing with the spiking measles cases

Bogus Vitamin A claims are making some measles patients more sick and a Texas children’s hospital is now treating children for Vitamin A toxicity after Jr touted the vitamin as a measles treatment

More than 300 people have tested positive for measles one unvaccinated child and one unvaccinated adult have died

Jr recently told FOX news that the “government is delivering Vitamin A to battle the outbreak (he also promoted other non scientific remedies ie cod liver oil which is high in vitamin A causing stores to report a cod liver oil shortage) Jr recently published all this in an opinion piece on FOX

Hospitals report that some children being treated for Vitamin A toxicity also have abnormal liver function

Jr is now happily peddling his BS on FOX and their website where all the MAHAs can get conspiracy ridden medical information

Republican senators who voted to put this megalomaniac in charge of our nation’s health and let Jr  “go crazy” per Trump can all go straight to hell the sooner the better

I so so hate them

Elon Musk is not just a "private citizen". He's the richest man in the world deciding on the future of our government and its agencies. He is initiating massive cuts to programs that benefit millions of American citizens, many of whom are poor, elderly and disabled. If no Republican can see what's wrong with this picture I don't know what to say. If someone would have told me this 25 years ago I'd have thought it was the plot to a new Austin Powers movie, not reality.

But technically right now Musk is not just a "private citizen". He's a "special government employee" appointed by Trump and only Trump. No American had any say in his appointment whatsoever, not even Congress or the Senate. I don't even know how that's allowable but of course Trump finds ways to skirt around the rules to do whatever he wants no matter how anyone else feels about it. He has teams of people just looking for those loopholes. But go ahead, walk lock step with this fascist. He's acting like one more and more every day.

And sorry but nothing done to Musk's Tesla business is going to hurt him in the long run. He's that rich that he's immune to being hurt by any of it. I'm sure he has all kinds of fail safe measures in place to profit from or at least minimize a loss like that. People that rich can do that.

And if Musk didn't know he was risking his company's profitability by getting involved with Trump and our divisive political climate, I don't know what to say. I'm sure he did and he didn't care if he put his companies at risk or the people working for them. He would come through virtually unscathed while they'd suffer.

And the people targeting his cars and his company are doing it symbolically to make a statement. They know it's not really going to affect him that much.

Also, it's arguable as to whether any of Musk's factory workers would be in a worse position if they had to look for a new job because he underpays them anyway according to union standards compared with employees at Ford and GM plants. And that's even AFTER the recent pay raises he gave them! They can do much better!

Musk could’ve just minded his own business, but he just had to go and buy Twitter to make it easier for incels snd assholes to say whatever they wanted, but because he actually gave a damn about any of them or “free speech” but do that it would be easier for him to say whatever he wanted. And because that wasn’t enough, he bought his way into the government so that he control people that way, and now he’s pissy because people are STILL being oh so mean to him.

He behaves like the villain in a James Bond parody, but thinks he's Tony Stark and that us plebes are supposed to adore him for it. it's exhausting to be perfectly honest. I am not a huge Marvel fan, but I know enough to know Tony Stark would never call someone a pedophile for disagreeing with him. Of course, in comic books the hero would never be so wrong and so forceful at the same time like Elon was during the cave rescue in Thailand.
