Ten Democrats voted with the Republicans to censure Rep. Al Green. WTAF?!?

Here are the culprits: Ami Bera, D-Calif.; Ed Case, D-Hawaii; Jim Costa, D-Calif.; Laura Gillen, D-N.Y.; Jim Himes, D-Conn.; Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa.; Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio; Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla.; Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash.; and Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y.

If you're registered in any of these districts, please pick up the phone and tell them this is unacceptable.

Calls to Hakeem Jeffries' office would be a good idea, too. I'm pissed off at the way he's handling (or not handling) the way House Democrats should be responding.

I'm right there with you - this is so infuriating. Of course, the NY Dems (Suozzi and Gillen) are from Long Island 🙄

I'm not pleased with Jeffries handling of anything right now either but I'm not surprised. At least others have noticed it too over the last month or so which shares my own sentiments lolFB_IMG_1741281688190.thumb.jpg.e8d803f76f17a82f9e5cb190fda464b1.jpgAre they seriously going to wait until *all* our rights are compromised?

"They'll never cut Social Security" is becoming the new "they'll never overturn Roe v Wade."

🇺🇸🇺🇦 Trump's administration is planning to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, potentially putting them on a fast-track to deportation, - Reuters

I have a couple of Ukrainian friends who've been here long enough to be citizens.  Their elderly mother remained in Ukraine, not wanting to leave her home until a couple years ago when the fighting started in her area and she was often without electricity or water for days at a time.  The mother is 90+ years old.  Finally, after more than a year of waiting, their mom was approved to emigrate after they assured the US government that they would support her financially, as they had been doing anyway.  Her 2 daughters went to Ukraine and spent several weeks closing her apartment, sorting through her things and taking her to visit friends and family who she thought she'd never see again before bringing her here into their homes.

If Trump is really so vindictive that he's going to deport the very elderly because he's in a snit over Zelensky wanting security guarantees in the event of a cease fire; I won't be surprised.  Disgusted, yes.  Surprised, no.  There is no limit to the depths he will sink.

"Transgender" mice is just the latest proof of his illiteracy.

Last week at the meeting with President Zelenskyy he kept repeating the "raw earth" minerals that the US wanted from Ukraine in exchange for financial support and weapons of war. The minerals in question are "rare earth" minerals. 🤦‍♀️

Then there's an oldie but a goody that's still in his repertoire: Brown people crossing the southern border are coming from insane asylums. That's the only association he has for the word asylum. He has no idea what asylum means in a geopolitical sense.

Costa is the rep for part of the city I live in and I am not surprised. You have to lean conservative here to get elected. I actually thought he was a Republican.

I know it's claimed that Trump is functionally illiterate, looks like his 'researchers' are as well.

This reminded me of his others deceptions he used to justify his anti-trans decisions.

With the volleyball story, no one actually knows if the injury was caused by the trans athlete. And when he told the story about a trans woman breaking a record against cis women, he left out that the race was co-ed and the previous record holder was a man.

OMG, did he really say that?  I heard about it, but didn't think it was real.  What a moron.

Not only did he say it, there is not a whitehouse.gov page on it. Complete with phrasing like “The Fake News losers at CNN”. Based on the site, I am even more disturbed because it seems like all research into the sex hormones is in jeopardy.

What's also disturbing is official government websites sound like they're being written by petulant middle schoolers.  It's just embarrassing as hell.

It’s impossible to keep up the with crazy whims and what seems to the Humpty Dumpty way of running the government

The promise of deporting 15 to 20 million migrants to everywhere from Guantanamo Bay to India is too expensive to maintain and ineffective and has been suspended

The cost of a flight to India was 3 million and the cost to send one migrant to Guantanamo Bay was $20,000

Didn’t fit into the DOGE business model 🤔

That was great!  Speaking of liquor board I was in the LCBO today and there is not one US product on the shelves and yet the shelves were well stocked.  Lots of choices out there.  One item I did buy, even though I don't drink, was a bottle of vodka made in Ukraine.  I don't care if it sits in the cupboard and never gets used.  As a matter of fact will probably buy more.

I might do that this weekend!

Vodka can also be used as a deodorizer and sanitizer. You can dilute it, put that in a spray bottle, maybe add a couple of drops of essential oil, and voila homemade Febreeze.

I think most of us here could run the Democratic party better than those actually "running" it.  They are doing very little.  I love the idea of fact checker.  I am not a fan of social media but something like that would go viral.  Especially if they did it in an engaging way. And not on X. Fuck Musk. Tik Tok maybe.

You mean everything they want to do costs money?  You don't say.  Is it any wonder Trump went bankrupt multiple times and Musk vastly overpaid for Twitter.  These two are stupid.  Their "success" in life was definitely not because they knew what they were doing.

When these numbers were determined, the government did an assessment and found the overall rate of fraudulent accounts was so low, that it would cost more to find and prosecute that tiny number than could be saved.  They also did remove the fraudulent accounts they found, many of which involve people using social security numbers of dead people for other purposes and not actually collecting social security or people who died before death records were computerized and therefore their date of death had never been entered into the system.

Yeah, there was an article posted upthread that gave a clear explanation of Musk's "misreading" (to be generous with characterization) of SS data as the basis of his outlandish claims about tens of millions of dead people getting SS (when there are only 67 million recipients total; really, dude, half of them are actually dead?) -- because when you talk to people who actually know the databases (plural) and their history, rather than techbros, it turns out to be quite simple:

Quote

Another database, experts said, is called Numident and contains a record of every person who has ever been assigned a Social Security number. There are people in the system, they said, who have died but don't have a date of death recorded because they lived long before electronic records were established.

This data set, experts said, has nothing to do with monthly payments but appears to be very likely where Musk is getting information that there are millions of people ages 100 to 369 in the system.

Justin Wolfers, a professor of public policy and economics at the University of Michigan, said it is "transparently obvious that he's misinterpreting or misrepresenting" the data but noted Musk is not "showing his work."

Musk has not explicitly said where he is getting the data he is posting to social media.

Still, his insinuations that the presence of such information within SSA is nefarious or new is also misleading, experts said.

The government has known the Numident system is flawed in this way for years, according to audits. A 2023 inspector general's report found nearly 19 million people born before 1920 who do not have death information in the record.

The SSA decided not to address discrepancies because of how much it would cost to fix (upwards of $9 million) and the "limited benefit" it would have on the agency, the report noted.

Romig, who previously worked in the Social Security Administration, also emphasized there are multiple checks in place to prevent deceased individuals from getting payments. The agency has a policy to automatically stop payments at the age of 115, and after a certain age they check to see that older beneficiaries are still using Medicare benefits.

Since the invasion, my husband and I have made it a point to buy at least one handmade product from Ukraine every month, and we've been SO happy with almost everything.  We've mostly used Ebay, but I am in love with some gorgeous colored lace placemats we bought from a lady over there, too, and I think we found those on a more crafty place, like Etsy or something.

We bought this for the twins across the street who mow and shovel for us.  Their dad has an old pipe collection from his father, and was so thrilled to get it.

An article on the Jeffrey Epstein Tapes on DJT from the Daily Beast last November. In addition to saying he was Trump's best friend for 10 years, Epstein also said that Trump is "functionally illiterate", compared him to "an emotionally challenged 9 year old", that he "liked to fuck his friends' wives", and that "The moral compass is nonexistent" with him. And I guess he knew about such things given his lack of one himself!

https://www.removepaywall.com/search?url=https://www.thedailybeast.com/listen-to-the-jeffrey-epstein-tapes-i-was-donald-trumps-closest-friend/

Whatever you may think about Trump, believing Epstein about *anything* is incredibly laughable. And Trump cut off Epstein decades before Clinton, Gates and Hawkins stopped using the Epstein jet to get to the island...just sayin...

Little tip. If you use your library card to borrow e-books from your library and Libby as the way to read them, Libby also has an option to read borrowed e-books using the Kindle app and because the books are borrowed, Amazon gets no money from it.

So? He was still friends with him, and called him *a lot*.

He also laughed when he talked about how Epstein “likes them young” and also bragged about how he was allowed to walk into the dressing rooms of naked, or half-naked teenage girls, because he owned the pageant. How is that okay?

According to who? Epstein??? As if the Daily Beast is some non-agenda driven source?

The news these days is disseminated by political activists, not journalists. Best example today was Reuters reporting that the Trump admin was going to deport all the Ukrainian refugees in the U.S. which was debunked within the hour but still repeated across the media landscape.

So sorry, Canadians. Just know most Americans do not agree with trying to make enemies out of our best neighbors. (And for what? Greed? Pride?? This is all so stupid....)

Do what y'all gotta do with the boycotts; but I know it will have some impact on U.S. retail. I work in retail, and even though my town is about 3 hours from the Canadian border, we get lots of Canadian tourists passing through our shopping districts.

I am so looking forward to a Walz/Crockett presidential ticket in 2028! She claims Trump is trying to send Black people "back to the fields" and Walz has functionally vanished from any visible Democratic leadership role since the last campaign when he was about as ineffectual as you can get. 😸

In the meantime, Sebastian Zapeta, the guy accused of setting a woman on fire on the New York City subway, won't be deported because of NYC's sanctuary city policies despite being previously deported in 2018 and returning illegally again to live on the taxpayer dime in Brooklyn for the last five years.
