Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) heavily criticized statements made by the Right Rev. Mariann Budde on Tuesday at the inaugural prayer service held for President Trump.

“The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list,” Collins wrote in a post on the social platform X, alongside a clip of Budde’s comments.

GOP finally found their “government persecuted Christian”.

Going to Google, looking up "Mariann Budde," hitting Wikipedia, yes, she was born in the United States.

I know people have to get their hatred out, but can they PLEASE do a little research before doing it? They have aides! Get the homework done, pick another way she should be punished.

A Congressman from Georgia said that? Totally believable. I have a low opinion on reps from that state already.

ETA: Shit, her mother came over from Sweden. That would be enough reason for a reactionary to demand deportation, unjustified as that is.

Trump can prevent the government hiring women and people of color but he can't stop.private companies.  We need to pay attention and reward companies that don't try to roll us back to the 1800s.  Money always wins out and companies are going to hire the best person for the job.

And Reverend Budde might not be able to be deported but I won't be surprised if Trump or one of his henchman tries to punish her in some other way.

To where does Collins think Bishop Budde will be deported?

He's just flexing his muscle and trying to scare people into submission.  I truly hope that other ministers, priests etc will stand up to this kind of heavy handed pressure and continue to preach for tolerance, compassion and mercy.

We can't let the fascists win.

Which just further proves it wasn't REALLY the "price of eggs" or inflation that drove people to vote for and support Trump. Never has been the economy, and never will be. Its all about them sticking it to women and minorities. Period. End of story.

I'm so pissed. One of our local meteorologists was let go from our CBS for expressing her disgust over Elon Musk doing the Nazi salute on her social media.

On a personal note, Twitter called me out for "hate speech" for telling a Trumper she voted for a felon. Meanwhile, an account I reported for its pro Hitler and pro Nazi vernacular and symbols is just fine and dandy.

Oh, it's not that they don't know she's a citizen -- they don't care.

We already know that they are looking for ways to deport and/or revoke citizenship for those related to undocumented individuals. But it's not going to stop there. It will be used against anyone deemed a threat.

A lot of what he’s signed off on, is apparently illegal, and will be fought in court.

I could make up a lie, but I'm not right wing media, so, yeah -- this is pure bigotry.  Revoking the 1965 order and instead requiring federal hiring, promotions, and performance reviews to "reward individual initiative" rather than "DEI-related factors" is their bullshit that any woman or man who's a POC only got their job/promotion to fill a quota, they're not actually qualified, and some poor white dude got passed over.  Because won't someone please think of the white men?

All US govt DEI staff are on immediate paid leave, and the agencies must by tomorrow compile a list of DEI offices and workers and by the end of the month submit a written plan for layoffs -- all DEI offices, positions and programs are to be terminated within 60 days "to the maximum extent allowed by law".

And the attorney general has 120 days to submit recommendations to "encourage the private sector" to end its diversity efforts, too.

I wonder how these mediocre white men will react when all those DEI hires get fired and they do not get a promotion.

I was reading how the anti-trans order is written in a way that pretty much says men do not exist. Someone had to put in some pro-life bullshit in the order saying at conception. And all embryos are female at conception.

That was my thoughts exactly.  These whiny white men saying someone is taking jobs away from them now have their chance.  Let's see what a high school drop out with a 7th grade reading comprehension can do now.

Well we know the government weather agency NOAA will most likely begin referring to it as the Gulf of America. That is the agency that changed their hurricane forecast to include a state not in it's path because Trump misspoke.

And if there's a natural disaster there, I guess the US is on the hook for it now.

I'm not trying to be nosy, but does she have some sort of special circumstances?  I only ask because around here everyone does that online.   I hate to think of her being led around by the nose with this stuff because it's time sensitive and so very infuriating to deal with.

It's a shotgun approach, but a lot of the stuff challenging the bureaucracy will go nowhere.  They can tie it up for years, because you can't out-bureaucrat a career bureaucrat.

Yes, she could not do it on line.  She was getting error messages.  She will get retroactive coverage, and she has Medicaid meanwhile, but still . . .

Yep. They want to see our heads explode, and to see us be worrying about everything.  The things that had me crying, were the removal of information about women’s rights and healthcare, and the ICE raids. Everything promised in project 2025.  Today, I heard about the civil rights bill he repealed.  He’s evil.

The new guy Trump has heading up the Coast Guard (after four star Admiral Linda Fagan, promoted by Biden from second-in-command to the first female commandant, was relieved of command, accused of "leadership deficiencies, operational failures and inability to advance the strategic objectives of the U.S. Coast Guard" because, wait for it, the Coast Guard implemented DEI policies, and fentanyl and migrants entered the U.S.) has already fallen in line, referring to it as "The Gulf of America" in a press release yesterday.

He should try reading the Constitution and pay particular attention to the First Amendment.  I'm sure one of his Democratic colleagues will be able to explain what freedom on speech means.  I applaud her courage, since Trump has a fully restored cadre of Proud Boys to harass, doxx, stalk, and otherwise terrorize anyone who criticizes the Cheeto, including a minister who preaches the teachings of Jesus Christ.

That's an excellent idea.

We've been pretty lucky so far with our insurance as far as 'problems' go.  We'll learn much more soon as my husband started feeling really bad yesterday.  He finally decided to go to the ER and was immediately admitted and he had his appendix out today.  The bills will roll in shortly!

I can't say enough good things about our hospital, Drs, and nurses, though.  They are amazing!  Even the food is good.  How does that happen?  lol

Yeah, we do not have the Supreme Court (or circuit court system; in addition to the whopping three Supreme Court justices, Trump appointed more than 50 judges to the federal appellate courts, and another 150+ the federal district couts) we had last time, and look how bad that was.  Especially given the average age of his appointees, Trump reshaped the federal judiciary for decades to come (and these aren't just conservative judges, these are often the batshit crazy, throw the Constitution out the window, loyalist types Trump favors), and now that is our final line of defense.

I don't use the site, so I don't care, except that Musk insists on deadnaming his own child (he has a transgender daughter whom he misgenders and deadnames in denouncing her), so whenever I need to refer to it, I deadname the shit out of that stupid thing.  It's Twitter.

Man, he really is a massive asshole.

Regarding the pardonng of the January 6th rioters, two takeaways from that:

1. I had better not ever hear "blue liives matter!" from the GOP and their supporters ever again, 'cause it's evidently clear that their lives don't matter that much after all.

2) If Trump and his supporters do not have to follow the laws, then neither do the immigrants they want to deport that came here through non-legal means. You don't get to claim yourselves as the party of law and order when your own leader and fellow supporters are out here actively breaking said laws and getting away with it.

I think what also makes a difference in how history is taught in Germany is that there are personal connections not just to the war but the Nazi regime itself.

Quoting myself because there's one other difference that affects public perception. Article 1 of German Basic Law is "Human dignity shall be inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the duty of all state authority."

The 2nd paragraph reads: "The German people therefore acknowledge inviolable and inalienable human rights as the basis of every community, of peace and of justice in the world."

It is followed by Article 2: "Every person shall have the right to free development of his personality insofar as he does not violate the rights of others or offend against the constitutional order or the moral law."

You find this phrasing throughout, so, we're learning from an early age on that our personal freedom ends when it threatens someone else's/someone else's right to exist.

That doesn't mean that everyone agrees and/or complies. But I think the fact that it's the law of the land and there's something that's considered more important than an individual's right of expression changes the dynamic and awareness.

Additionally, Germany has an institution that's called "Verfassungsschutz". Translated: protectors of the constitution. They classified the whole AfD as being suspected of being far-right extremists (meaning, their party platform is suspected to be a threat to Germany's constitution) and the Youth AfD (all major parties have youth wings) as well as AfD wings in certain states have been declared as far-right extremist (so, one step above being under suspicion).

I think that, too, contributes to a different public awareness because these are things that are reported in the media, so, even if it's not directly about Nazi Germany, there's conversation around the threat to democracy that originates with a political party.

Early reports are the Nashville school shooter had extremist views.  Of the Neo Nazi variety. And his victim Josselin Corea Escalante was HIspanic.  I'm afraid we are going to see more of this.  And Trump and his cult will not care.

Also Trump says FEMA just gets in the way. Thinks states should handle their own natural disasters.  OK when Florida is hit by another hurricane and Mar A Lago is damaged no help from FEMA then.
