To be fair, it looks like she's got one of those mesh overlays like the figure skaters wear. 

The mesh went all the way down to her belly button. I personally wouldn't wear the dress, but imo, it looked pretty on her.

Jokes aside, Jason's dad does have a paid-for house and takes care of his children well into their adulthood. Might be a good option for Dani once Mo runs away for good.

It really struck me in this episode how blasé Danielle's daughters are about the entire situation. Like, it's no big deal having the electricity turned off or having Mom's mail-order husband going into and out of their lives. Very sad. It comes off as though they have no stable adult presence in their lives to care for their well-being. And where is the biological father that he doesn't raise any objections when his kids are living with no electricity and a stranger mom met on the Internet?

If I remember correctly, Daya brought her wedding dress from the Philippines? It was a giant monstrosity, but when I got married the first time at 24, my wedding dress was just as foofy, so I cannot judge.

 

I am surprised that Daya and Brett had a civil wedding. I thought they would have a more religious wedding.

Hello fellow snarkers. I signed up just to post. Haven't been watching much TV since the demise of TVwoP, but I got caught up in this show.

 

Dani and Mo: Not much I can say about them that hasn't already been said. I wonder if INS is asleep at the switch and will allow Mo to stay in the USA despite this obvious sham of a marriage. FWIW, I have some creds in cinical psychology and Dani doesn't appear to hit most of the NPD criteria. She's self-absorbed and has a tenuous grip on reality, but that doesn't put her in NPD category IMO. We're getting the TLC edit so it's impossible to diagnose.

 

Yamir and Chelsea: Cute kids but dull. I'd expect more from a Nicaraguan pop star and his Yoko. Aim higher, kids.

 

Justin and Evelin: The most normal of the couples, therefor not a great couple for reality TV. No fireworks for the camera. That SIL is a bully and clearly likes her liquore too much.

 

Daya and Brett: Her six-inch roots and blue contacts look like she's dressed up for Halloween. I call bullshit on the "uncle" who posted in the spoiler thread. (Since cooksdelight brought it over here, I guess it's OK to talk about in this thread). He said, paraphrasing, that Daya and Brett "are both deeply religious and live for the lord." IME such paragons of religious zealism wouldn't share a bed before marriage or make out like rabbits in a taxi the first time they met in person. Bret's mother looks crazed, the way she smiles when she expresses displeasure. As someone posted upthread, now I see why he has all these surrogate mothers around -- his own mother is way too invested in the life of her adult son. Time to cut the cord, lady.

 

Amy and Danny: I feel sorry for this poor girl. Why did she want to come to the USA in the first place? Sounds like she had a solid life in South Africa and coule have had prospects anywhere. Did she really follow Danny to the USA? She seems like such a bright woman other than making this one big mistake.

 

Cassia and Jason: At least they are each getting what they want from the other: A sexpot body for one, and a ticket out of the slums for the other. They seem to have a folie a deux going, but again it's impossible to diagnose given the scissors-and-Scotch-tape editing that TLC does. Great drama for reality TV. I'd watch a show of just them, dad, the dogs, and the seemingly normal extended family. "Can a socially awkward father-son and their mail-order maid run an auction business from home without driving each other crazy?"

Well, I'm confused. I thought you HAD to live with your spouse for a certain amount of time and be married for a certain amount of time to get your green card. If Mohamed is not living with Dani then why isn't the INS investigated this? Or maybe the rules have changed. I'll admit I'm thinking about that movie Green Card which was a long time ago.

Cassia looked AMAZINGLY better without the cat wings. There was one scene she was standing there trying to convince herself she was okay to do this thing. When it passed, I thought, "That's weird, I don't usually think she looks attractive..." so I went backwards and realized whoever did her makeup stopped at her actual eye! The dress? Awful. Awful, terrible, tasteless, ridiculous. Someone mentioned the dad touching her back - I thought it looked a great deal like he put his hand on her back and wanted to move it when he felt flesh - but there was nowhere else to go! Maybe it was one of those nude mesh skater covers, but it was sheer enough to see her bellybutton.

I thought Evelin was a spectacularly pretty bride. Her face was radiant. She looked so happy. Maybe they drank that gallon of champagne BEFORE the ceremony. Was it me, or did Justin look awkward in some of the posed photos while the cameras were following them? Seemed like he never knew what to do with his arms. (Then I think back to that episode where he escorted her to the pile of dishes because he had to go watch the game... I guess those Neanderthal guys dragging their knuckles really don't photograph all that well...)

Apparently my eyes glazed over with Brett and Daya's wedding, don't remember a single detail. (Except the x-roomie tearing up a little).

But I could snark about hippie chick (and I don't mean hippie chic!) and Yamir all day. My brain hit the wall and exploded a little. it WAS rustic and pinteresty, while SHE obviously was going for the "thing" Jenny carried off so well when she married Forrest Gump. (She wasn't even close, but that's what I saw happening in her mind). Here's what stuck out for me. Her wedding is forever and ever captured on video. Forever and always. I wonder if, when she's my age, she's going to look back at that big mess and say, "Wow, what was I thinking????"

Incidentally, I love Pinterest. Just not all in one setting.

With the exception of the most controversial couple on this show, this episode was rather uneventful but it was good to find out if all the couples went through with it.

 

I am so completely burnt out on shows like Platinum Wedding and Say Yes to the Dress, that with the exception of Dani and Mo, I found the simple, inexpensive, no fuss, no drama individualized weddings of all the couples rather sweet. Not once was the phrase 'this is my day' uttered and there was no bridezilla behavior in sight. I almost forgot that people can get married without ice sculptures, chocolate fountains and wear the same gown throughout the entire ceremony. LOL!

 

That being said, damn Chelsea!! I can appreciate and have respect for her hippy dippy bohemian thrift store life choices, but no ma'am. That sheer skirt that her mom slapped together at the last minute was NOT the business. I do wonder why mom couldn't have finished it ahead of time. Talk about poor time management.

 

Totally agree.  I am also tired of over-the-top weddings that cost thousands and will prolly end in divorce anyway.  The simplicity is kind of refreshing.  Chelsea's hippie wedding was very ..er.. "sustainable," and well suited to her.  At least nobody could accuse her of being a materialistic bridezilla.  I think she and Yamir really love each other, hopefully down the road he won't resent her for breaking up the boy band. 

 

Dani is the only bridezilla here-- she's totally bought into the fantasy presented by those wedding shows and is so fixated on having her pretty pretty princess dress and party day that nothing else(- like the reality of what happens AFTERWARDS)matters.  The Dani/Mo situation imakes makes wonder about the vigilance of homeland security  I don't think Mo is a terrorist at all, just an incompetent Gigolo, but the fact that this joke of a marriage even took place makes me think somebody is asleep at the wheel.

I don't think Mo is a terrorist, and I don't really think he is the mastermind behind this "gigolo scheme" either. I've mentioned either here or another forum that I think it was a collaborated plan by Mo's family, and Mo ended up being the bait. He stated more than once he did not want to come to America. And he doesn't seem to care enough about the green card to follow the rules. I think he is just a teenager that thought he could get more swag in america and fell in his family's trap and now realized everyone screwed him and doesn't care anymore.

 

(Which btw.... yes you do have to live together for about 2 years, share bank accounts, bills. When my husband went for an interview, I was 8 months pregnant with his child and they still drilled me)

Jason's Dad lost his eye when his helicopter was shot down in Vietnam.  It's plastic.  It doesn't "track" as well as before.  He has to have surgery every few years to tighten the socket so it doesn't pop out if he coughs or sneezes.  He has a collection of old eyeballs!  Is anyone surprised?  :D  He was a single dad - raised all three children by himself, without the benefit of a positive female role model.  Probably a source of some of the family "uniqueness".

I had to FF through the Chelsea-Yamir wedding, just can't take this woman.  She wants to get married, but she acts like she's 15 attached to mommy and daddy. I'm curious where Justin and Evelin got married. I grew up in a tiny beach town in the Bay Area (where they live) and it looked very similar to their location. I also find it fascinating that Justin forms every few words he says with his mouth.

His age has nothing to do with it. My ex-husband was 35 and he is a puppet to his family. He married me for papers so that he can bring his family over and all this stuff. Problem was we actually DID love each other and have a child, but because of how a lot of the immigrating families plan, it was against their rules. He already had someone to marry back home he was to bring over. He was a pawn to his mother and father, who held all his assets. Eventually, it drove him mad and unstable. Mo has the exact same attitudes (granted tv cuts). I could be completely wrong, but I am just saying my experience with these situations. I was raised around a lot of illegal immigration. I grew up in a very very diverse town. My parents came here way before immigration was really an issue, and they followed the rules so they can raise their kids here. Unfortunately, lots of families around me did it the way Mo did. Dani was a tool for a whole family.

No. Just a matter of saying. I don't usually use the term teenager and sometimes I use it incorrectly. I don't usually use the english language at all unless I'm at work and I've caught me making that mistake before. Either way, Mo is pretty immature, as is Dani. 

 

Am I by any chance pushing sore buttons here? Because you sound offended. I didn't mean to offend anyone, nor did I even realize that someone was such a fan of Mohamed. (not that there is an issue)

The day after Episode 10...

 

I'm enjoying reading everyone's comments from last night and today.  Awesome snark, as usual, and many of you made some sweet comments about the weddings - basically a "live and let live" attitude, let people choose what they want to do and roll with it, which I'm totally down with.

 

Chelsea and Yamir's wedding - if I ever get married again, something like their ceremony is exactly what I would do.  (Except I would at least provide some folding chairs or benches for the attendees!)  She's a neo-flower child, definitely a throwback to the 60's and early 70's, and I think she's sweet :-)  She reminds me of a young friend of mine, but I digress...I wonder if her parents are academics - I get that vibe especially about her dad. 

 

Brett and Daya and Cassidy - loved that they were all together and getting married together...the sand blending was poignant and symbolic.

 

Justin and Evelin - I believe they're in it for the long haul.  Evelin has really found a second mom in Justin's mom!  And Evelin looked freakin' gorgeous!

 

Jason and Cassia - well, it was Vegas baby  ;-)  I'm pulling for them, I do think they care for each other.

This is what gets me about Mo and Danielle. Do they have no idea how stringent immigration is about these kind of visas and how closely they'll be investigated for fraud? INS will make multiple surprise visits to the home to check that they're sharing bed and board and grill them up and down, for a minimum of THREE YEARS. If INS thinks it's a fraudulent marriage, not only would MO be deported but Danielle could very well go to jail.

 

Not only that, but they're required to have joint finances, and I really want to know who is sponsoring Mo, because Danielle's income clearly isn't adequate. In order to sponsor your fiance for a visa, you have to prove that you have enough income to support both of you. When my friend married a Mexican national, her dad had to sponsor him because her income wasn't enough.

I've liked him from the very start!  Definitely a neat guy.
