Fucking really?

Before we start collectively knitting Buck a superhero costume, it seems the incident upon which this was possibly based is not exactly like Peter Parker getting bit by a radioactive spider:

Quote

Dr Rémi Foussat, a specialist in keraunopathology - a discipline that studies lightning-induced pathology or damage - and Marie-Agnès Courty, a specialist in lightning plasma, investigated a situation that occurred on 2 September 2017, in Azerailles, France, where fourteen people were struck by lightning while sheltering in a tent due to rain. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but two of them were seriously injured. . . .

two of the people struck by lightning had an increase in their mental capacity for several weeks. One of them was able to point out the date of any day without learning it first. The other case is a school teacher who was able to solve three-by-three-digit multiplications while talking about the organisation of her day.

But all that glitters is not gold! These impressive abilities were accompanied by excruciating headaches, whistling in the ears or constant fatigue. Unfortunately, the teacher developed coordination disorders and, one morning, lost her speech.

The explanation for these behaviours is still unclear. One hypothesis is that, as the damaged neurons die, they release neurotransmitters that cause a 'reorganisation' of brain connections. As a result, the person becomes the owner of cognitive abilities that they previously did not have. . . .

This is truly a feel-good episode. Love it! ❤️

Bathena and Madney working together, solving a crime. Buck spending some quality times with the Diaz boys, baking cookies and all. Denny/Nathaniel’s issue is resolved (for now) by having Toni as their chaperone. And we have some crazy/funny emergencies too.

Errr, I guess the vibrator lady must be using some kind of slim (external) vibrator that can slip through her urethra. 😬

Yikes!

I enjoyed the show, especially since there were crazy rescues again.

I loved the way Hen reassured the naïve girl getting the fire haircut in the opening scene. Hen's common sense about parental love was perfect there.

Too bad that was not the same Hen who dealt with her own Denny.
Heh. As a parent myself, who worked with other people's teens, I get it.

Good thing Hen's mom with the wonderful personality makeover stepped in to have the right words of wisdom for Denny and his moms.

****************

Glad the creepy criminal muffin baker wasn't a serial killer using poison muffins, especially because, if she was, 9-1-1 operator Maddie didn't have a clue.

Girl, same! Although, having some extra adipose tissue probably saved her from the reaction that other people from the class had.  The "wellness" industry is a hot mess.

Right? I guess the show was counting on no one remembering how Hen's mom was introduced.  Hell, maybe they forgot since it's been awhile.

These ship names made me chuckle.

I figured Buck had a "Flowers for Algernon" thing going on with the improved cognitive abilities, but then he reverted to form with making the awkward husband/wife intimacy call about him and calling up his exes thing.  He'll be fine.

I love fitness, I’ve taken a frillion spinning classes, but I don’t fuck with flat tummy tea. Water is just fine.

There’s a conversation in the Black community about bringing back beauticians. I don’t want an Instagram stylist who charges me fees for everything and won’t WASH HAIR (they want you to come with it washed). I don’t want to be on your IG live. I want a beautician. I want a good shampooing with a scalp scrub - I LOVE having my scalp scrubbed/scratched. I thought of that with the blowtorch scene. No sir, you shall not!

I really enjoyed this episode, this is really what I want from most of my 911. Lots of fun rescues, a lighter tone, some cute mystery solving and nice couple moments between Athena/Bobby and Maddy/Chim, and even the more possibly dramatic plots turned out alright. After so much never ending drama on this show and over on Lonestar, this light fun episode was a breath of fresh air.

I'm glad that Buck being a math prodigy was just a one off bit, maybe the next lightning strike will teach him how to have a proper romantic relationship.

At least the coupon lady was just doing a pretty minor crime and that wasn't even her actual kid, she's just a really bad babysitter. Bobby seemed so light in this episode, it was really nice to see.

The vibrator in the bladder was bizarre. I'd think it would be a lot of work or entirely impossible to get one in that particular route. That it could happen by accident just seems even more unlikely than Buck becoming a math genius.

I kept saying, "That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works." The vagina isn't an opening to the rest of the organs, FFS.

Well as @LtKelley mentioned, some people find openings for things.... since this actually did happen and was a ripped from the headlines type of story and the doctors were baffled too...

I really did enjoy this episode. It got back to some of the fun rescues.

Since they established several times that Buck's new cognitive abilities wouldn't stick, I'm fine with the plot with Buck being a math genius. It ended up being a lot of fun, and I do appreciate his math skills didn't abruptly end by the end of the episode. Plus, with him calling his ex-girlfriends/ex-hookups halfway through, we know Buck is still Buck.

Plus, the poker scene was fun (though would Buck's math skills really come into poker? Poker isn't a counting card type of game).

I liked the Denny/Hen/Karen/Toni plot. I like how Toni was a neutral party, trying to get everyone to understand everyone's side in the situation. Toni talking to Denny made sense, and it was a very nice scene. I like how Karen/Hen told Nathaniel that what he did wasn't ok and that he'd be under strict rules when seeing Denny, but that he still could. It was a very nice way to deal with Denny's wishes to see his dad while still maintaining boundaries.

Maddie's plot with the scheming woman was kind of fun, especially getting Bobby and Athena involved.

And yeah, vibrator lady rescue didn't make much sense at all. That's not how the human body works, show.

Yep.  Every time this show has some bizarre story that doesn't seem like it could happen, I'm betting it's based on something really happening.  Somewhere.  Maybe only once.

On the third hand, I am not that familar with vibrating sex toys but I do have SOME knowledge, and I don't see how something that size goes anywhere near insertion into the uretha, let alone up into the bladder.

About 50 years ago when I was an itinerant portrait artist hippie, I arrived at an urban art colony in Seattle, hoping to have a place to sleep at night while I sketched tourists during the day. While I was getting the tour of the house, I was asked if I'd ever tried inserting a particular (non-vibrating) object there. I left for Vancouver CA right away where I had a sister I could stay with.

When the scheming woman started ransacking the drawer full of mail, I was sure identity theft was her main MO. The fake coupon business was more complex. Is that the same thing as those ads on TV to bid on items and get, for instance, and iPad for $20?

Erm, there's still next week and 4 more episodes this season for Buck to not be fine when his lightning strike effect wears off. They even had the poker playing chief refer to it. 🌩️🙃😐

The lightning emoji! 😄

I don't want any kind of blowtorch near my head (or any other part of my body unless it is necessary to save my life).  A good scalp scrub and massage is top tier, okay?

The membrane between the vagina and urethra isn't all that thick though. My guess the vibrator went off long enough to tear a hole somewhere. Which would also explain the pain. It could be wedged in whatever path it's made so it's not causing a lot of bleeding. If she had given birth she might have had a tear there previously. Plus some people just have weird anatomy.

Being great at math really doesn’t help you at Texas hold-‘em.  You can count cards in black Jack because you’re seeing every card.  In poker you see three random cards plus your two every hand and the cards are reshuffled every time.  The poker story made no sense.

When has that been a requirement for this show?

Not me!  I get my hair cut at one of those chain places that doesn't charge much.  Of course, I just get my hair cut very short 'Jamie lee Curtis style', so nothing fancy.  I get there with it washed and want to get in and out with as little contact as possible as quickly as possible.  (I hate having my hair cut.  Can't you tell?  I'm way overdue, as a matter of fact.)   I'm sure I could google it, but is getting one's hair cut via fire really a thing?

I thought that the fake neighbor would turn out to be a distant relative of the people who used to own the house and was trying to get access to find something hidden in the walls or attic or something.  I never would have guessed phony coupon crook.
