Current Plots Discussion II: Discussing Today's Episode and Current Storylines

Joining the choir with no interest in the baby plot. The writers have had to go through stupid acrobats to present this thing, making Melinda, Sloan and now Dimitri act like morons to set it up. I refuse to discuss it and since it feels like it is on every day there is not much to say.

It is sad that I was glad to see Everett and Stephanie today as at this point I prefer anything to Nicole's sad sack face and Sloan biting her lip.

I am only interested in the Xander paternity reveal. Period. And since that is moving as slow as molasses I have no investment in the show right now.

I wish such bad things for Leo. If he wasn't on contract and popped up randomly every 6 weeks or something, I could tolerate him as a weird/annoying townie type...but inserting him into other people's stories and letting him keep going on and on and ON with the double entendres and puns and quips constantly just makes me wish for a Salem slasher.

What's so sad about this baby story is that it wouldn't have taken much effort to make it less stupid. It just feels like a 10 year old is writing it and doesn't realize all the ways in which it makes no sense.

The better story would be Sloan had her baby and it needed Jude's bone marrow to live and that forces her to tell the truth. Then nobody is a cartoon villain and Eric would really be torn between two loves

Yeah but for some reason on soaps they never let two babies with the same daddy live.It would have been a different take that's for sure.

I'm personally so sick of Eric and Nicole they have been on front burner for the past two years. Two POC characters have been shit on so that selfish Nicole and Eric can end up together. No couple has been propped as much as these two have. They need to be put on backburner after the baby story is over.

Rafe thinks he is capable of finding a drug cartel?  He only arrests innocent people.

Tripp and Wendy are so boring but are getting music love scenes?

Everett and Stephanie find out it's Chad who fired him in 2 min.

Carly and Jason with their fake Italian date is blah.

Chad needs to not give any information to his so called brother.  Flynn industries? Lol

This episode was terrible, this show needs the vets and the Brady's/Hortons.

Dimitri told Leo the baby is alive but nothing else. Leo doesn't know Sloan’s involvement.

Lol: Flynn Industries is the name of the shell company that Everett is investigating.  I wonder if Billy Flynn had any in-put into that name? :)

So once again, Stephanie will be the poor put upon person who has some man trying to control her.  This could be a good plot if Stephanie wasn't just so damn dull that I can't help but wonder why all they men go to such lengths to protect their interest in her.

If only, if ONLY one of those controlling men would somehow control her to get on a Greyhound Bus with a one way ticket to Alaska, I might be interested.  I'd be even more interested if Nick/Everett and BenAlex took the bus with her.  I'd be really fine if BenAlex decided to ride the bus attached to the undercarriage.

Hard to believe and even harder to stomach, but I'd MUCH rather watch Ava and that block of wood she's dating, or even those two handpuppets, Wendy and Tripp, than Stephanie and any guy at all, so far.

Did we know before today that Jada was once married? Or is this more acrobatic writing? NGL, it did surprise me when she had the picture on her phone and who her ex is.

We knew. She told Rafe, or maybe Eric, that she was married and they split because they were in different directions in life. No drama at that point, but I am sure there will be now

I feel like they at least hinted at her having been married before. It was around when the Talia/Colin stuff. I thought maybe they were going to have Jada have an abusive ex in her past.

Yes she told this to Eric, Shawn, and Rafe in the past. A few of us speculated it could've been Harris at the time but obviously it wasn't him.

The sad thing is previous versions of Stephanie weren't like this at all. There was one that was a race car driver and another that worked at Titan with Phillip and this version is nothing like either of them at all except that she has her own career.

Anyone else want Nicole to just snatch the baby up like a football and bolt outta there like a quarterback?

...also, is Kristen still living at the DiMansion? Wouldn't she be revelling in Nic's pain? She hates her, for her various hookups with Brady...

(Not saying I miss her right now, though.)

Last we heard mention of her, somebody said, maybe it was Johnnie, that she'd taken Rachel somewhere for Thanksgiving.  Guess they're still there.

Hello there. Long time lurker; figured it was time to get an account on here. Anyways, I just want to say that this show is the worst that it's ever been. There are so many awful characters on the canvas right now and I'm even more pissed off that the writers managed to completely ruin Theresa, who was one of my favorite characters.

I honestly don't even know how she can be salvaged at this point. I don't even know why she's even on the show at this point; she's not interacting with her son, who she's supposed to love, and she basically could care less about him and she's so isolated from pretty much everybody except for Konstantin and Alex. It's like ever since Emily O'Brien started playing her, she became almost an entirely different character overnight.

How is anyone ever going to forgive her when she's eventually exposed and all is said and done? Alex will definitely wash his hands of her; Brady will turn his back on her even more, and I won't be surprised if Tate decides to disown her altogether and have nothing to do with her altogether. She will have absolutely no one in her corner, and it's going to be of her own making. Can't say I feel sorry for her at this point.

It's probably best if the writers just kill her off for good and have no one, not even her own family, mention her ever again, not even Shane and Kim. Just pretend that she never existed. I would even settle for Konstantin beating her into a bloody pulp and have her be in a permanent long term coma for the foreseeable future like Jan Spears was and ship her off to a long term care facility in California so that no one will have to deal with her ever again.

There's really absolutely nothing to like about this show right now, absolutely nothing. I don't even know why I even waste my time with this show at this point. Sorry, just felt the need to vent here.

But, you're forgetting all the WONDERFUL other characters and plotlines:

Chuckling Abe and Shrieking Paulina... oh that's right, they suck.

The EPIC romance of Wendy and Tripp ..... oh, that's right, they're as exciting as watching a tennis match between two people who've never played before.

The OTHER epic romance of Jada and Rafe.... oh, that's right, the show doesn't have even a vague clue as to what to do with these two.

The edge of your seat plot of baby switch/DNA shenanigans number 847.... oh, that's right, we all know how this is going to end (I'm guessing Christmas miracle)  and in the meantime there's all the many times Sloan looks panicked and you're supposed to think this stupidity is finally going to be over but, yet again, it isn't.

The many loves of Stephanie....  oh, that's right she has no personality and the only thing she's really done is destroy Chad.

Holly lusting after Johnny.... oh, that's right this REALLY sucks.

When Ava and Harris are the most interesting thing going on right now - you may have a point.

Yup, it's dire...but it was actually really bad right before Ron, current head writer, came aboard. Characters were trapped in separate storylines for months. Family relationships were barely acknowledged. Did you ever see Summer? Dr Dan? They were awful, show-eating characters.

Granted we have those now too, but at least there's a bit of history worked in and a decent mix of stories. The pacing is a mess, though and the camp factor is out of control.

....I....wouldn't go that far. I think we are all capable of ignoring this BS character assassination, just as I plan on ignoring Lucas kidnapping Sami (seriously?) and Eric being a deadbeat Dad to Holly (though you'll catch me yelling about that on here from time to time).

This version? Absolutely. Theresa overall? No. She's still a fave. Jen L did a great job with her and made me tune in.

Wasn't it Alarr who orchestrated this screw-over? She wasn't available for enough weeks of filming, so they lied about the storyline and secretly gave her part to Emily...right? Was it him or Ken behind this?

No worries. We all do it on here! And the lack of daily comments on these forums makes it clear most of us are struggling to watch regularly. It sucks. The show can still be saved, narratively. But will it?

....when was Ava involved with Jake??

"I've never needed an excuse for people to kiss me", sez BenAlex. How about punching you? Repeatedly?

Tate defending his mother is going to turn into him trashing her aggressively. Just like Dear Ol Dad. Ugh.

Chad's dialogue with NotNick about how deeply he was going to be involved in the paper sounded....porny. 😄 Just me?

NotNick writing Abigail a fan letter...?? Oh f*** offffffff 🙄

The tree at the Pub has brown garland? Yuck.

Please fire Harris. The propping is too much. He's Supercop now? Where's Hope to put a stop to that?

Stefan, you do not get to kill Clyde. Get in line. That privilege should go to a good dozen other characters well before you.

Hey, Brady copped to being a jerk! Wow. Took a while.

Lol they lived together and were briefly engaged before he was shot to death in front of her. Then she lied to EJ that they were married so that she and Gabi could seize DiMera. That's what started their dumb feud that culminated in Susan going off a cliff

Um I enjoyed the show today apart from Gweneresa and BenAlex. Was she supposed to be conveying guilt over robbing him of his real dad?

Thanks scab writers for introducing me to the brand new experience of enjoying Stephanie. I liked how she embraced her inner bitch while drunk.

I really loved Ava saying that she sees Jake when she's around Stephan. It is the kind of insightful writing we haven't had in yonks

Even enjoyed Chad and Everett. But I never knew Nick Fallon.

Also I thought Brady would go back to see what Theresa tossed in the bin but then I remembered he's dumb af

Fake Teresa didn't seem to care at all about her son and Tate just wanted far away and didn't bother to tell her bye and she didn't care either.  This isn't Teresa.

Chad doing everything at the paper now for Abby is the goal he should have had in the first place.

Why was Stephanie dealing a lunch account? Chad's a Dimera he just had to load enough with a high balance.

The Theme of the day seemed to be "Men's Socks" :)  Steph & Jada talking about men leaving their socks strewn around & then Jada mentioned that her Ex wore One sock, lol.  Then Theresa & Alex discuss socks for some reason(they needed to hang them by the non-existent fireplace? lol)  I did get a kick out of drunk Steph, more interesting than every-day Steph.  Calling Harris "Harry" was funny.  And how dumb is Brady as a Father?!  Giving his son his Gold card to 'go wild with" to impress his girlfriend? Sheesh  At least Brady admitted he was a terrible Teen son to Marlena.

How I am loving our replacement/scab writers!

They had Tate tell Holly straight up that if she gets Johnny the way she wants then Johnny is going to jail.

EJ is such a great husband. I hope Nicole keeps him regardless. Eric sucked when they were married

How great was John and Xander? Not only did John rightfully retain his anger towards Xander (he shot his wife after all) but he also realized that everybody can change, and made sure Xander knew that he can't eff up anymore now he has a child. I like that they are bringing Xarah back together before Xander finds out he is Victor's son, so they can deal with it together. I love that the writers are doing unexpected pairings like this, and as somebody who loved John and Isabella I must say it made me really smile to think that John is talking to Izzy B's baby brother :)

The scenes with Nicole & EJ were very emotional...I admit I had tears in my eyes when they spread  their baby's ashes & then hung the ornament on the tree.  Ari Zucker & Dan work well together & I have liked seeing the Nicole & EJ story as a married couple(again) slowly unfold.

I really thought the idea of a dead child's ashes being delivered around the holidays was tasteless, especially since the baby is alive and well...but now I'm wondering if the scab writers were thinking "Geez, we really need to follow-up on this 'oops we incinerated your baby' justification that phony Dr gave". Maybe, pre-strike, there would have been no follow-up there. At least here, they gave it some weight?

I did like seeing Johnny and Holly in their fencing outfits. It builds the sense that they have privileged hobbies befitting rich kids, and also that the house is big enough to have rooms for that sort of thing.

...but I'm still having a big issue with Holly you guys. I like the actress well enough, but she doesn't seem like she grew up with Johnny around (as we're supposed to believe has been the case to some degree), and her interactions with Nicole are so so strange. AZ doesn't seem to be bonding with her costar. Her saying to Holly "oh my daughter, Holly, I'm so happy to have you!" or whatever was detached and weird. I just don't see them as mother and daughter.

I really, REALLY wish we'd gotten an 11 year old girl to play Holly for a few weeks even just to create the sense that Nicole has been a mother. We've seen a blanket, a very young girl, nothing and how a 16 year old. It just doesn't feel like this young woman has actually been around for the last few years growing up.

Just me?

Nope, not just you.  Since Holly's only function is to lust after Johnny, she and Nicole haven't really interacted at all.  She treats EJ like some distant uncle sees every year or so - not the man she has theoretically seen at the breakfast table for the past few years.  She also has had no scenes whatsoever with Maggie - the person she spent the majority of her time with as a child.  There is just no there, there.  She isn't really connected with anyone - she could be some random stranger for all the show has established.

Well said and thanks. I mean, I like the actress, she isn't incapable of being Holly...but as you put it, there's no there there.

I try to give new actors a chance, especially when there's a SORAS in effect, but the more I see her with Nicole, the more confused I am. It's all so stilted.

Definitely not just you.  I get the sense that the actress playing Holly has some skills, considering how well - IMO - she's handled so many of her scenes, but the storyline just doesn't hold up.  Or hold any interest.  Been there, done that, a xillion times and that's just since RC started writing.

I agree with you 10000%!  DF and AZ are the best couple, by far, in Salem right now.  Frankly, it's been ages since I've been as invested in a couple as I am in this iteration of EJ and Nicole.

DF can act circles around GV so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Show, don't force AZ back into some horseshit storyline with GV unless it's all animated and ends with Wiley E. Coyote pushing a piano off a cliff onto Eric's empty balloon head.

Wow. There was a great flow to this episode. Felt like a completely different show. One event, all the characters involved getting their moments. Nice work scab writers!

And thank you guys for FINALLY being the first to show how exhausting having a young baby can be. In the last decade, I can't think of another single scene in which a character who was desperate to be a parent suddenly had to deal with the sleep deprivation that accompanies it. It was so realistic to show Eric and Sloan struggling first thing in the morning.

Less realistic was Sloan's skimpy shirt/dress thing. I mean...come on. It's December. Are you trying to die?

On a related note, Leo sleeping on a park bench, in December? Wait. Actually....carry on.

Was it idiotic that Sloan would abandon her stolen kid out where anyone could snatch him? Definitely. But again, they established the sleep deprivation angle, so it's almost forgivable.

Stefanie may be boring, but I'm glad she's not a nutcase or shrew or obsessive. Tripp is equally "normal" but since those types are rare around Salem, I have no issue with either of them.

Nicole stole the baby. Hmm. I'm starting to feel pretty jerked around by this show suggesting Nicole has accepted her baby's death, and then actually not, and then yes, and then no...

I don't know what the scab writers had the authority to do about overarching storylines, but I hope this is the final stretch for this one. May Nicole get the dna tested herself, Sloan meltdown, and all of us move on. And let Leo be involved in as little of it as possible.

Can we trap Leo in a storyline with Ava and Paulina and BenAlex? Please?

Last writer's strike the scabs wrote Jack finding out he was Billy, Steve and Kayla's wedding and the culmination of the Salem knifer plot. I think they can wrap up whatever they want.

I'm loving the more cohesive writing and unexpected pairings like John/Xander and Harris with the drunk girls
