"My dad keeps things very neat. His crime is organized!"

Perfect :D.  Also loved, "Now I know that sounds bad, but to be fair, what woman wants to admit they knew Rudy Giuliani?"

On a lighter note, awesome portraits of the Obamas. I especially love Michelle's. Barack's comments about her portrait were great :).

Stephen really should do some Broadway.
His few bars of “New York, NewYork” (with alternate lyrics) were spot on with just monologuing for warm up.
I’m imagining a duet with Randy Rainbow.

And, yes, because it can’t be said enough, the portrait of Michelle by Sharon Sprung is wonderful.

Stephen’s interview skills are now so much smoother. He pushes the envelope, but not over the cliff.
I guess they don’t rehearse?

Anyway, his demonstrations of TV star vs. movie star making an entrance were perfect
—as was Betty Gilpin’s firm choice (with rationale) to not walk onto the stage again in film star mode.

But if they'd rehearsed it, she could have pulled it off with a lot of panache.

I don't know if you know about this, but he did a semi-staged "Company" a while ago that I thought was wonderful.

Wow. Last night (Sept. 8-9, 2022) is bound to be re-aired. So much gold. I just hope the Oz cold open doesn't put folks off.

My favorite line from the monologue:

  • "Oh, 2018. Simpler times. . . . When a little bat in China was saying: 'Guys. It's just allergies'."

But was I the only one tearing up at the parody of "You've Got a Friend"?
I will be sending this link to the 2 old work friends so they can share it with their current work friends. 🥲

I loved that "Work Friend" song :D. Both because it was funny and because I always love seeing Stephen get to geek out and perform with some of his favorite musicians.

Also, from the other night, I got a really good laugh out of the bit in "Meanwhile" where Stephen was imagining what the flight announcement would've sounded like between those two pilots who were fighting in the cockpit (though I was also thinking, "Gee, this sounds like the beginning of an episode of that show 'Air Disasters'..." :p).

Do we know if tonights show was taped yesterday or Wednesday? I guess we will know depending on if the Queen or Bannon are mentioned.

Never mind, earlier this week Xfinity was showing the episode as new on the guide.

You've got a work friend song was oddly touching.

Who wants to create a version of this song for those work friends for people who work from home and have never actually met their work friends in person?

There are so many variations of “You’ve Got A Friend” that could be wonderful, but having James Taylor being half of the duet was significant.

OK, why is Stephen already in reruns???? 😭😭😭😭😭

His show is a rerun tonight because it's the Emmys, so he's out attending the ceremony. He'll be back with new episodes tomorrow night :).

Their whole conversation about Willie Nelson (and Stephen's impression of him) was so entertaining XD. Good song choice on Ethan's end, though - I confess to having first heard that song thanks to "Monk", but it is a really great song. I wish we could've heard DiNiro's answer to the song question, I'd be interested to see what he would've picked. I liked his answers to the questionnaire, too.

That segment of all the clips from Stephen's show predicting all the horrors that would unfold on January 6th was...chilling. The clip of Stephen on election night 2020 pretty much summed it all up, though: "Man...this is a weird fucking election!"

Great writing last night, like the description of Lindell's picture, "mentalist trying to read his own mind," and the Shakespearean skit with Steve Carrell, which was also physical comedy gold.

😂😂😂😂😂

Ahahahaha, okay, the '90s teen in me totally loved that opening bit about the trains XD. My god, that song...hello, middle school dance flashbacks...:p.

So much I could say about the DeSantis story. So, so much. But instead, I will simply say, good on you, people of Martha's Vineyard.

Nina Totenberg's hearty laugh reminded me of my mother's when she quoted Scalia and Ginsburg answering her question about why Scalia was in front on the elephant in India.
Scalia said he was seated in front because of seniority; RBG said "I think it had something to do with the distribution of weight" LOL which could also be a double-double entendre:

LOL, I liked that, too :D. Frankly, I'm still stuck on the story from "Meanwhile" about the chess player and the rumored anal beads, 'cause....what :p?

As I understand it, while Hans Niemann is very controversial figure in the chess world and that there are some indications that he cheated in the past, the whole anal beads thing is a reddit joke that has gotten out of control.

I had no idea there was this much drama in the chess world. I may need to start paying more attention :p!

The Queen’s Gambit is probably a good place to start.

What even was that ad for that woman from Utah who's running? Just...wow.

I got a really good laugh out of Stephen's description of that Texas sheriff in the monologue: "Bexar County sheriff and character cut from 'Pee-Wee's Playhouse'..." :D. Also, this sentence I'm typing now is the last time I ever want to see or hear the words "DeSantis" and "porn" in the same sentence, please and thank you.

It was kind of sweet the way Colbert and the writers gently roasted 80-year-old candidate Linda Paulson as if she was a grandma in their family.
Given that her rap includes "love . . . the constitution," I imagined throughout the rest of the episode that she was watching and charmed by Stephen and maybe even will go with one of her 35 grandchildren to see and enjoy Billy Eichner in "the first big budget, major motion picture studio, gay romcom, available only in theaters" (at least a chuckle at how many times that phrase was repeated).
But about the grandma actually going to see it? I know. 🙃
But laughter makes me optimistic, which is why we watch, I guess?

Great interview with Dmytro Kuleba. I had no idea he would be there so it was a nice surprise.

I really liked that interview, too. I especially liked his comments about fear, I thought that was a really interesting way to look at things.

I was just disappointed that an actress turned dire for of what looks like a middling sophomore film got three segments and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister got one rushed one at the end. I liked the covid episodes because the serious stories got more of their due. This was almost insulting, the way this was unbalanced.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I guess she was booked in advance and maybe he was some last minute addition? He must be busy now at the UN council.
