I haven’t clicked with Bowen Yang yet.  It’s like he’s so aware of himself playing a character.  I still see him, not the character.  I appreciated the cleverness of the spider sketch, but I wasn’t wild about it.

Enjoyed Rami as host.  He seemed game for anything  and wasn’t looking for cue cards in every sketch.

Unpopular opinion: I've never liked Prince so I fast-forwarded through it. It really does seem as if I am the only person in the world who never cared for any of his music! (Or Abba's.)

I didn't notice Melissa right away when the Celeb School Game Show started and got all indignant: "Seriously? A sketch full of celebrity impersonations without one of the best at doing them? WTF?!... Oh, she's wearing a short wig (Wiig) so that's why I didn't recognize her in the long shot." [Emily Litella: Never mind."]

       I Had Nothing Against Prince, But, I Never Knew Any OF His Hits OR Did Much OF Any Thing With Prince ! ! I Enjoyed The Prince Sketch On Saturday Night Live ! !

I'm guessing cut, because I didn't see Brutal Marriage Story until I came here. I think it would have been the funniest thing on the show, maybe tied with the Prince audition sketch.  They nailed it.

I think so, too. Brutal Marriage Story was a great sendup of Scenes From a Marriage, which just finished airing and FWIW I thought took itself a bit too seriously. (I only wish they had made fun of the way it broke the fourth wall and showed the actors coming to and leaving the set. Talk about self indulgent and ripe for parody!)   I would say it definitely should had made the show, but for once I'm not sure what I would cut. Probably Squid Game video, but that's probably because I haven't watched that.

I'm still amazed about how  loose the whole show felt. It's been awhile since the show felt like that, and I have to think Rami had a lot to do with that, despite his penchant for intense villains. lol Everybody was having fun. I'm not sure Mikey's and Kenan's hypnotized bit works as well on another show, or not that another host could have carried off the mattress sketch with equal aplomb.  I really do hope he comes back.

Head and shoulders better than last week's train wreck that is Kim Kardashian-West. My only criticism is the substantial presence of Daniel Craig. Not that I do not like him, I love him actually. However, this is Malek's time. If Craig is so good, and he is good, why does SNL not make him a host in a separate week?

They have. He hosted in late 2012 to promote Skyfall and in March 2020, which was intended to promote No Time To Die, (because it was supposed to be released April 2020) but then all hell broke loose.

SNL loves to have cameos and they especially love to have cameos linked to the host. The minute I heard Malek was hosting I suspected Daniel Craig would show up. I just thought it would be during the monologue, especially what with Malek discussing playing a villain.

It's all about promotion for the Bond movie in which Rami Malek co-stars with Craig.  The show doesn't really have hosts from the same movie for multiple weeks. They like to contain all the promotion into one episode. Basically spread the wealth.

Even though Rami got the call to host, it looks like Daniel Craig has entered "Friend of the Show" status.

I know that Craig hosted, that is why I like him. I do not mind his making a cameo or two, but he was the lead for the musician / dancer sketch.

     They DID Have Daniel Craig Last Spring ! I Don't Remember IF Daniel Craig Was The Host In March OR May !

The Celeb School Game Show sketch was funny as hell.  It was a stroke of brilliance to have Rami Malek and Pete Davidson play each other.  And thanks to Bowen Yang's George Takei impression, I now know what I want the notifications on my new phone to sound like.

He's definitely been a terrific addition to the cast, that's for sure.

Did I mishear, or did they keep pronouncing Mr. Takei's last name to rhyme with "eye"?  I think I have heard him in more than one interview clarify that it's "Ta-kay - rhymes with gay!"  I thought the character was going to correct that!  Especially since it was Bowen!

You are correct that they mispronounced his name. It bugged me too.

I loved this show.  I'm surprised how good Malek is at comedy (and Daniel Craig, not so much, at least this time).

Bowen got a lot of prime air time and ran with it.

WU was one of the best ever, imho.  I'm not a fan of over-using the character spots, but all three of these were great.  The volley of jokes between Che and Colin was epic.  Here's their run between Bowen and Chris's character pieces . . .

Che:  Netflix/Disney/Pornhub --> Colin:  Superman/Riddler

Fires/Trickle Down --> Sad Autumn Girls/Diva Xmas

Manischewitz --> Brown Sugar

This was only a little over two minutes airtime; these are all solid bits.  Manishewitz was probably the weakest of the six with the Pornhub joke being the diva.  I did not see that coming at all.

[/my two cents]

I laughed so hard at Manischewitz joke. It's crap wine and after all this time there should be much better Jewish wine. Manischewitz could even update it and call it "New Manischewitz" (and hope it doesn't meet the same fate at New Coke)

There's actually plenty of "real" kosher wine produced all over the world, but Manischewitz remains an effective punchline.

I'm Jewish and I get why some might not like the joke, but I laughed. It wasn't the best joke, but I get why it's funny. Manischewitz is swill, and yet it persists to a degree that is kind of funny. I think half of the reason is that generation after generation it's drunk at seders, which infuses it with a kind of emotionally favorable association. It's like "comfort wine" the way other things serve as "comfort food".

Maybe sort of like how Boones Farm is a "comfort wine" for some. Or Mad Dog 2020. I'm always up for jokes about them.

He's fantastic.  As excited as I am to see Jason tonight, I also can't wait to see what Bowen does.

Some enterprising entertainment writer should document the history of the pandemic through this show. Start with the initial publicity push for No Time To Die with Daniel Craig's appearance on SNL last year. Followed up by the on again, off again status of its release and SNL operating remotely. Finishing with this episode with Rami Malek promoting the actual release in front of a studio audience and Craig's cameo.

This is the only episode of the season so far that I loved almost straight through. Bowen Yang as Daddy Long Legs, Aidy Bryant in the mattress skit, Aristotle Athari in the lounge skit, the Prince skit, Chloe Fineman as Jennifer Coolidge in the celeb gameshow skit, all of them were so funny. Malek was one of the best hosts they've had and I didn't expect that; he was pretty cute dressed up as Prince, too. Even Chris Redd, who is very rarely a highlight for me, got me going in the monologue about blimps and congratulating Colin on "little baby Cletus."
