Drama, CBS: A brand new chapter in Las Vegas, where it all began. Facing a threat that could bring down the Crime Lab, a team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City. Starring William Petersen and Jorja Fox.

Per RadioTimes:

Quote

The new season of the crime scene procedural has yet to be commissioned by parent network CBS and was meant to tie in with the 20th anniversary in October, but COVID-19 has put paid to that plan.

I'm so excited for this! I can't wait for more set photos and information to start coming out!

Is there a plan to develop a spoilers and spec thread?

I was never a huge fan of the original CSi but I didn't hate it either.  I am in the minority who liked the show the best when Ted Danson was on it.  But that is just me.   It did have its moments and even though I was never a regular live watcher I tend to watch it on Hulu because it is there and easy to drown out while I am working from home and there is only so many times you can watch Criminal Minds.

Now my point (and I do have one).  The idea of revamping it with current laws and having at least some of the old crew return is a good way to compare and contrast the old way of doing things and the new laws and technology that might make things harder because they just can't do this thing they did when Grissom was the boss anymore even though it makes things ten times easier.    Kinda like when The Closer (which I rarely watched)  turned into Major Crimes (which I watch on reruns)  and suddenly the gang actually had to follow rules they kinda let slide.

That looks really good I have to say. I did, & still do, ship Grissom & Sara so it was nice to see them holding hands as we got very little of that in the earlier years. I do like that they keep the personal side of the show to a minimum, I never felt it interrupted the show previously and I feel secure they won't do it with the reboot either. I liked that little scene with GSR (in what looked like a hotel room) putting their glasses together and having an eye-to-eye talk just the two of them. I wouldn't mind more of that even outside the lab. I will miss the rest of the gang but who knows who might have a guest spot? I'm really looking forward to this.

I heard a rumor that MH will cameo, and we know Brass is back for two episode, but we really don't about anyone else.

Unpopular opinion, but I was never a fan of Sara. I honestly think it has more to do with her voice (vocal fry, drawing words out longer than necessary, and odd cadence) than anything else. Once you hear all that, I can't tune it out and it makes my ears bleed.

However, I 'm a huge William Peterson/Grissom fan, so I am 100% here for it!

The show will be 10 episodes only.......unless they're picked up for a second season...which they are saying is only meant to honor the show for its 20th anniversary...but honestly I think CBS is trying to see if there is enough interest in a reboot.

I was just thinking this. Maybe they’ll  do the 10 episodes w/the Sara/Gil/Hodges arc and also new cases at the same time.  Then they could let Sara & Gus wrap it up, return to the desert (I think?) and leave the new crew to carry on in season 2 or more. But all of this would depend on ratings. We’re only 2 episodes in but I like it.  I watched all the CSIs (wish NY would stream) and am warming up to the new people. I’ve seen Paula Newsome in other stuff and like her, especially her voice for some reason.

CSI: Vegas Renewed for Season 2 — Which CSI Vet Might Return?

Averaging nearly 7 million weekly viewers (with Live+7 DVR playback folded in), the CSI sequel series improved the audience for its Wednesday time slot by 60 percent. Further, the 83 percent DVR bump it enjoys is the largest of any new fall drama.

CSI: Vegas stars Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon and Mel Rodriguez as the team now working the Las Vegas crime lab. As for original CSI vets Jorja Fox and/or William Petersen continuing on as Sara and Gil, TVLine hears that the former might return for Season 2, whereas the latter only signed on for the initial 10-episode series (but will stay on as an executive producer).

Oh, geez no, lol.  I think if they're going to bring in former characters, it probably wouldn't be any of the bosses.  It'll be interesting to see.  I'd just be happy if they add more folks to the lab of the current cast (you know maybe have Park there full time).  I get that 'Rona screwed everything up but having the same two folks work every crime scene is silly.

In all seriousness, sounds like William Petersen is one and done unfortunately.

Sure.  Have a plot where he gets shot through the glasses into the brain.

This might be interesting.  You have folks who could never stand Jorja and now you have folks who only watched because of Grissom and Sarah.  Frankly, I'm fine watching the show on its own merits and with pop-ups from former CSI show cast if the show and they want to do it.

I'd like this show to not rely so much on the personal drama of the cast (Maxine's son and the flirting of will they/won't they of Allie and Josh).  I'd like to see them function in their jobs a bit before all of that.  I'd also like to see more cast in the lab and in the field like Park (yes, I get that chick 'Rona messed stuff up) but it'd be nice to see someone else besides Allie and Josh at every crime scene.

Hmm, interesting.  I know there were folks who liked the character and ones who didn't care for the characters tics.  I hope he's leaving because he got a better offer to do something or that worked better for him as opposed to bad vibes on/around the production/folks in charge...

I think the ratings will dive without WP coming back. Even more so if they bury it behind the CBS paywall . I am not that invested in the new cast members to justify watching next season unless they bring in some compelling cast members. The ones now are just fairly vanilla and don’t have the same quirks or humor that the OG ones had.

I never really expected Petersen to come back though.  I saw it as just being a link to the past for the audience to be introduced to the new team.  And even though I was never a Grissom/Sara fan, I didn't expect her to come back without Grissom since as Jorja said, they did the separation thing in the original and at this point in the character's lives, it doesn't make sense.  I wasn't even sure this wasn't just a one-off special thing and not the set-up for a new series go around.

But as has been said, this show needs to expand its cast and tighten the characters they do have.

The only cast member I don't want to lose from this new iteration is Paula Newsome, I think she was perfect as the team leader.

Folsom grew on me as the series went on and I ended up liking him the most of all the underlings. I didn't mind Allie, but I didn't see much chemistry between the her and Folsom despite the push the show was making for it.

They should get Caitlin Doughty (Ask a Mortician on YouTube) as the coroner!

I would be willing to keep watching without Peterson and Fox and I like Paula Newsome but the "B" team has consistently been my fast forward part of the show and absolutely no interest in Maxine's son.

The writing is really going to have to pick up for me to stay.

CSI: Vegas: Marg Helgenberger Confirmed to Return as Catherine

Quote

Marg Helgenberger is officially back on the (crime) scene, having inked a deal to reprise her role as Catherine Willows on CBS’ CSI: Vegas.

The franchise vet — whose absence from the revival series’ first season was addressed in the opening episode (watch here) — starred in the first 12 seasons of the original CSI, and returned briefly in its’ 14th/final season to commemorate the show’s 300th episode.

At press time, her status (seres regular or other) had yet to be confirmed by CBS.

Helgenberger is also expected to continue with the OWN-acquired All Rise in some capacity, as Lola’s mentor Judge Lisa Benner.

So I just remembered that Catherine's daughter was a level 1 CSI at the end of the TV movie - I wonder if they'll write Lindsay in?

More likely to pretend an inconvenient character doesn't exist or lives elsewhere.

It will be nice to have Catherine back.  I much prefer her over Sara.  While they are at it, they should bring back David to replace the coroner who left and Greg should come back and replace Allie.

What's wrong with Allie?  She's actually a decent new character.

TVLine Items: CSI: Vegas Season 2 Adds Three

CSI: Vegas is reinforcing its ranks for Season 2, following the exits of William Petersen, Jorja Fox and Mel Rodriguez at the conclusion of the first season.

The CBS drama has added Lex Medlin (Drop Dead Diva) and Ariana Guerra (Helstrom, Promised Land) as new series regulars, our sister site Deadline reports. Medlin will play Beau, one of Dow Chemical’s longtime top research scientists who followed his heart after the pandemic and went to the CSI Academy, making him the most overqualified CSI Level 1 of all time. Guerra will portray Serena, a daughter of cops and a sister to doctors who “is not content to let science lead the way without some saucy commentary and tough questions.”

Additionally, Jay Lee, who recurred during the freshman run as CSI Chris Park, has been promoted to series regular.

As previously reported, CSI vet Marg Helgenberger is confirmed to reprise her role as Catherine Willows in Season 2.

From TVLine's "Ask Matt":

Any word on season 2 of CSI: Vegas? Can we expect it to be another 10 episodes, or will we get to see more? –Maple
I put that question to CBS Entertainment chief Kelly Kahl, and he said that despite kicking off last year with just 10 episodes, CSI: Vegas is not by design a short-season series. “We have not done a final tally yet, but it’s going to be more than 13 [episodes],” Kahl told me. “After we set the schedule, then we populate the schedule and figure out how many we need of each show. And that’s what we’re in the process of doing right now.”

TV guide has a small piece on Catherine's (Marg Helgenberger) return. The storyline is a "mystery at her dad's casino". Zzz. Didn't her dad Sam Braun die on the show?

I was never a fan of his character, boring and calls her " Mugs" (sounded too much like Marg). Imo it was a boring storyline on the original series they kept rehashing (and now, again), and a lame portrayal of "Old Mob Vegas".

Image and info from gsrsaragrissom on Instagram. Oh um, bonus pic of my fave Gary Cole just because, and because Grissom is gone now.

I guess it's too much to hope this means they're killing off Lady Heather. I'm saying this as someone who enjoyed her first few appearances, but talk about a beating a dead horse. If they were finally getting rid of her, I'm sure Grissom would be involved somehow.

TVLine Inside Scoop

Any info about CSI: Vegas Season 2? I’m thrilled thinking about the possible return of Sqweegel from Season 11 of CSI. –Adam

Whether or not that was in fact a Sqweegel tease in the final frame of Season 1… won’t be answered any time soon. As showrunner Jason Tracey shared at TCA, that killer cliffhanger is “definitely something that’s going to play out and it involves a lot of our season, but we’re not starting there. Good things come to those who wait, and it will sort of metastasize as the season goes along.”
