Katie and Travis: Young Love?

They made a backup offer but they won't know until sometime in January if they get the house. Katie was teary and saying that emotionally the postpartum period has been tougher on her than with the first baby. Well she doesn't have Mama Clark sleeping over and helping take care of the new baby and preparing meals.  She also said that she and Travis agreed to cap their family at 3 or 4 but they might be capping it at 2.

Katie really miscalculated when she moved back to Tennessee. Sure, she has fellow do-nothings to pal around with in Evan and Carlin, but she has no help with childcare. There's just too many sisters to share the babysitters with, and Kelly doesn't even take care of her own kids let alone the grands.

I think Travis is fine stopping at 3 or 4, but we all know how Kelly operates. There will be a lot of pressure to keep the baby train rolling, especially if pregnancy is their biggest money maker. What I don't understand though is why they don't hire help? They're clearly not hurting for money. Surely someone at that big megachurch does nannying. Even if it was just a few days a week, it would give Katie a break.

Katie needs something to do besides wiping butts and runny noses all day.  Not saying she should get a J-O-B, but don't most stay-at-home moms get involved in something? My mom stayed home with me, and she taught Sunday school, was secretary of the PTA, did "room mom" duty twice a week at my school for several years, went to an exercise class 3 nights a week, hosted dinner and game night at our house every Friday, and so on.

Katie, on the other hand, seems to have nothing.  I mean, Travis had to fly in her best friend to keep her company while he's touring.  I don't know, that just seems so weird to me that a grown woman can't be by herself for a few days when her husband's out of town.

You’re talking about a woman who, in her life prior to marriage, had probably never spent more than an hour or two alone.

Same. My mom stayed at home but never stopped! She cooked all of our meals from scratch, sewed some of our clothes, cleaned constantly, was part of dance group, volunteered for a charity, and entertained neighbors daily, just to name a few.

Then she needs to LEARN how to do that 🤷‍♀️

It seems like most of this family doesn't possess the imagination or ambition to entertain themselves.  There are so many things Katie could be doing including storytime at the library with the kiddos, join a mom/toddler play group, join the pre-school PTA.

My older sister was a SAHM, a choice she and her husband made.  She volunteered as a playground monitor, was president of the pre-school PTA for a couple of years, was 'snack mom' for the swim team the kids were on.  Not to mention having a huge garden and making meals from scratch and doing some canning.  She was also friends with several other moms with similarly aged kids in the neighborhood and they formed a babysitting co-op.  One Friday a month, one of the other moms would watch her kids while she and her husband went out (or stayed home) and she did the same for others.  They also exchanged daytime babysitting duties so they could get their hair done or grocery shop in peace.  For herself, she joined a book club and volunteered to assist elderly ladies who needed someone to run errands for them.

This vehicle has about 37-38,000 miles on it. It's a Nissan SUV. Does anyone know what this vehicle would sell for? Travis flew to another state to see this car, purchased it on the spot and drove it back to TN. How does one handle the tag office business when buying a car at night, in another state and driving off to TN with it? How much income does this guy have "singing" with his family? It just doesn't add up. Their lifestyle is coming close to Carlin and Evan's who, also, don't seem to have the income to support it. I was shocked that Katie & Travis can afford such a gift. Can anyone explain? Their YouTube channel can't bring in that much income, can it? They have their own expenses to handle out of it too.

Did they use the Duggar car lot?  I am only guessing that if one has the paperwork one has a certain amount of time to get a title in the state the car will reside.  Dealers do some kind of thing and get the temporary tag. It might have its original tag on it.  I traded in my car and signed over the title and left the license plate.  There are probably various and sundry ways to do this.  The only issue will be if they get stopped on the road and then they will have to deal with it.  I am also only guessing that perhaps the "kids" put a downpayment on it and they or KJ will be making the payments.  I hear that a lot: "My daddy bought me a car and I am making the payments" meaning daddy made the deposit.  Daddy didn't really buy them a car.  But, who knows with these folks.

I don't think getting the car was such a big deal. He may have wired the money to the dealer and all paper work done in advance. So he just had to pick it up and add the car to his insurance. Later he will transfer the title to KJ.  If you are paying cash and I imagine he did getting the vehicle is easy.

As far as the YouTube channel I think they make more than we think.

I don't think KJ and Gil are making the payments.  The way KJ was reacting and the way Gil does things, they wouldn't accept that.  (Although it does appear that Gil knew about them getting her a car and what was going on.)

Travis went on tour last summer and this Dec and he has been writing songs too.  There is money in that.  He's new to this, but I'm sure he isn't doing it for free.  Maybe this is where the disposable income for the car came from?  It is a very extravagant gift from a young daughter, but it's nice to see this couple use their money to help out others instead of jetting off across the world.

Katie totaled Kelly's car several years ago. This was the bad accident she got into before she met Travis. She said that she always wanted to replace her mother's car when she had the means to do so. Apparently, Kelly had been driving an older, spare car all these years. Her cheapo husband never got her a new vehicle.

Although I side-eye blasting it all over social media, it was a nice thing to do. I'd feel like crap too if I wrecked my mom's car and she couldn't replace it. I just hope they didn't buy from the Duggars. They're notorious for selling lemons.

As far as the money, they've got it. Someone on Reddit estimated that model Nissan was around 25k used. Between YouTube, sponsorships and Influencing, they're probably pulling that in every month.

I've never had to go to the Secretary of State/DMV/tag office after buying a car. The title clerk at the dealership handles it.

It would be more accurate to say that Hailey, Harvey, and the dog bought Kelly a car. She didn't need an SUV, either.

Why couldn't she get her own? If she can travel back and forth to South Carolina and various grifts by herself, why not go to a dealership instead of waiting for Pastor Lazy-Ass to do it for her?

The car must not have been comped at all, as they never mention the name of the business from whom they bought the car.  In fact, they didn't even disclose exactly where Travis went to get the car.  He flew to Charlotte first, then just said he had to take another very short flight to where the car was located.

Trace and Carlin have both said their parents gave the kids some money from their show, but they didn't give any details about how much, when they got access to it, etc.  However, I can't imagine they made that much for their show in the first place, and after splitting it 900 different ways, each child couldn't have ended up with that much.  Travis and Katie may get some help from Trav's parents, but that would be weird for them to buy KJ a car if they're regularly taking money from his parents.  And maaaaybe Katie gets some money when she models for Bates Sisters Boutique, but it seems like the amount would be nominal and honestly, I really can't imagine it would actually occur to Carlin to pay Katie.  I mean, Carlin and Evan don't even try to hide their glee at grifting from their famlies.  But, anyway, that's another rant for another board. All of that to say, as crazy as it seems, the only plausible explanation I personally can come up with for how they fund their lifestyle is that they must be making major bank from monetizing their social media.

Why didn’t Gil buy his own wife a car if she was driving around in an unsafe vehicle? And why is it suddenly ok for women to drive long distances without chaperones?

Hearing that story, I’ve somewhat changed my mind about it. I too would’ve felt awful if I had wrecked my mother’s car. BUT - plastering it all over SM for complete strangers makes it more of a flashy attention seeking gesture than true remorse and kindness, imho.

I find it fascinating that they all put her on a pedestal and practically idolize her when she essentially pawned them off on their older siblings.
Popping out 19 kids does not make you an exceptional mother.

Society puts a ton of pressure on children, adult or otherwise, to put mothers on a pedestal. It's all "she's your mother!!!" and "she gave birth to you -- you owe her!!!" no matter how bad the actual mothering was. I speak from experience. Well, I didn't ask to be born and have to deal with terrible parenting. Neither did the Bates kids. Someday a few of them might gain some introspection. Might.

It's society and no doubt there has been huge parental indoctrination over the years for Gothard type fundies that seem to idolize birthing large numbers of offspring.  One of my specialties in life has been helping people recognize the emotional blackmail inherent in the all I did for you as you were growing up nonsense. The first retort is you were my parent, it was your job to take care of me, and never forget that I didn't ask to be born. You chose to have a child. Breaking the chains is hard.

I'm not saying all parental requests are blackmail, but it's surprised me over the years how many families utilize the technique.  I may see it easier than most since my parents never tried it.  Many people are shocked to begin realizing it's emotional manipulation and shouldn't happen or be tolerated.

Rhetorical question with this family but can't anything EVER be private? K&T are in SC visiting Bill and Jane. Katie making a big deal about Harvey meeting his great grandparents. So Katie walks in and as always has to introduce herself to Bill - both she and Kelly who is there say, she's Katie, your granddaughter. Bill as always asks where they live and is shocked that they came from Knoxville so far away - as Katie explains they live where Dad - Gil - lives. And then there is a moment of lucidity bc after a pause where you'd expect he wouldn't remember he goes - Katie Grace you grew up on us. Like it clicked for a second who she was and he even remembered her middle name, which no one had said.

Very sweet but IMHO a super private moment.

And then the rest was him being out of it and they had to put that on IG too. Katie is making a big deal about Hailey talking to Papa Bill. Hailey is standing at the foot of his recliner laughing and making all kinds of noise and he doesn't even notice. Then at some point Jane says Bill look down, look at that baby, that's Hailey, she's talking to you. He looks down and notices the child and acknowledges there's a child there. I mean clearly he wasn't with it but gotta publicize that too . . . . Gotta earn that living. I don't watch their YT but I suspect the next YT will have lots of this; these are just the IG "previews" they've put out.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how Hailey broke her arm?

Welcome back!

Someone made a comment on the Christmas picture stating, “she fell in a store they X-rayed it and didn't see any fracture but she was seriously hurting. So they said the doctors were going to keep the cast on it for a week and then do a recheck. That's what they said on YouTube.”

With little kids, fractures can be tough to see on X ray.  It's not unusual to cast the limb and wait for the swelling and pain to subside and then get another set of films or even a CT.  If the second set of images also don't show a break, they remove the cast and off she goes.
