S02.E10: Do or Die

I'm not sure about Tammy and 'rona (we all call it that at work too!).  I heard her tell the doctor that she also had pneumonia.  Then I heard her tell him she was on 15 liters oxygen.  Did anyone else hear that??  Jeebus, that sounds almost ridiculous!

I didnt realize this was the season finale. I am proud of Amy for what progress she made throughout her pregnancy. If she keeps losing weight in the next year and ends up in the low 200s, her quality of life will be much improved and she will be able to have another pregnancy with fewer risk of complications. 

I am waiting for the YouTube review by Auntie's Advice. I don't have much hope for Tammy to lose any weight, even to get into the 400s....it might be only another 1-2yrs before she is no longer mobile. 

If there is another season I would like to follow Chris and Amy.

I'm very sorry to read this.  I think that's one of the scary things about COVID-there's not rhyme or reason that we're aware of yet about who it'll kill or leave debilitated for a long time.

I'm late to the party, folks. I didn't realize there was one more episode, thinking #9 was the last one when Amy gave birth. So I quickly watched today. Everyone has basically said everything I would have written, but I'll add:

I'm pretty sure I saw Jerry with a cardboard sign on an off ramp in downtown Atlanta. I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually homeless and the reason he shacked up with Tammy while he could. Reminds me too much of Dave Chappelle's Tyrone Biggums. "Y'all got any more of those sugary snacks??"

I wanted to rip that cell phone out of Tammy's hands while Chris was reading her the riot act. This scene reinforced for me that she's basically a lost cause. The female version of James K. from M600PL. We are just going to watch her slowly die. Chris hit the nail on the head with his line "because bitch don't leave the house!" That phone and her crackhead "boyfriend" is how she's gained 100 pounds by not leaving the house. 

If there is another season, please let it just be Amy and Chris. Although I feel like I need a throat lozenge after listening to his raspy voice.

That wouldn’t surprise me. There’s a network of panhandlers in my city. They work in shifts and pile into decent cars parked nearby to go home to their apartments. They’re totally not homeless. I serve our homeless and I know who our population is (and their names) and they aren’t the people holding cardboard signs out by the mall. Jerry totally gives off the grifter vibe, especially when he ordered steak at the Mexican restaurant, presumably bc TLC was picking up the check. It just felt like he was taking advantage.

I keep thinking how much Tammy has actually gained since she last saw Dr Proctor.  She was in the hospital for two weeks, she said?  So for sure she lost a ton of weight there.  She must have come home, gained that weight back and THEN put on the extra 40 lbs or whatever.

If there's another season, I won't watch it.  I'll just come here for the comments.  Tammy makes my heart sad.  I don't really know if there's a way to reach her at this point.

I don't watch this show regularly but it still seems odd that the producers missed an opportunity to film Tammy's experience with COVID. How she got through it alive is making me very suspicious (if she even had it all.)

I’m comparing Tammy to those I’ve seen on TLC in similar situations.  At the rate she was going, she is still gaining weight.  So.....how long will she survive?

I found this:  Carol Yager may have been the heaviest known woman in the US. She died at age 34 weighing around 1200 pounds. I’m not sure how that is possible.  She was featured on a number of tv shows, though I can’t say that I recall her.

Damn I love Chris. He should be a motivational speaker or a guru!  Lol! Has his wife ever spoken when she has been part of the filming? At the healthy family dinner Chris cooked at Tammy's, his wife said not a word.

On a more serious note, could TLC get Jerry off this show? He is disgusting. Teasing Tammy by eating (in her presence) the sweets and fattening foods she loves but CANNOT eat. Jerry adds nothing of interest or importance to this show. Or this world. He's gross.

I've seen other shows where they are doing that, so I would guess it depends on the hospital.

You know, I’ve always noted how extremely underweight patients also rely on others for their subsistence. They often are too weak and sick too work, so they stay with family members who provide them shelter, phone, transportation, medical care, etc.  Different eating disorder, but similar impact on the families.

Just have a few general questions about Tammy. Because she is so overweight, does she still get a monthly menstrual cycle? Can she get pregnant despite her size? Could a fetus survive growing underneath all of her excess fat? 

I'm not being disrespectful or rude. Just curious about the ramifications if Jerry (or anyone) got her pregnant etc.

Many morbidly obese women conceive naturally via sexual intercourse- but at 600+ pounds, I highly doubt Tammy is having a regular menstrual cycle and is ovulating. If she were in the 400s I could believe it, the 600s, not really. I think the heaviest woman my mom delivered in her career was around 450, but she was also 6ft tall.

I had a friend whose OBGYN told her she was having trouble conceiving because she was overweight.  This woman was by no means obese--maybe, at most, 40 lbs. over her "ideal" weight.  She lost weight and did indeed become pregnant.  The whole episode was confusing to me because I knew lots of women who were lots fatter who had had babies.

It's been pointed out that fat and hormones are associated in mysterious ways--for example, obesity is a risk factor for some female cancers, esp. breast.  Insulin is itself a hormone.  Maybe it is like diabetes:  some overweight people never get diabetes, and some people who get diabetes are of normal size or smaller.  Different amounts of hormones affect different people in different ways.  Sometimes fat and the hormones associated with it prevent pregnancy; sometimes they don't.

Yes- there are 7 billion human beings on this planet, not everyone is going to be a text book case on each medical issue. And until recently society has not had a significant number of people THIS large to study regarding the effects of weight on fertility etc. And again, male fertility plays a part as well. Some couples are incredibly fertile TOGETHER, but one person may be less fertile with another partner. But I do not think Tammy is ovulating or actually at risk of a spontaneous pregnancy- I think it was just talk.

Agreed! Unfortunately, I have let my mind wander (in a curious way) as to how a man could even get to Tammy's vagina. Seems impossible. Unless he's Long Dong Silver! (just a reference to the 70's porn star. He's probably Long Dong GONE Silver by now 😀

Long Dong also had a colleague named Chocolate Thunder, but both had a beefier physique overall than this fellow. Anyway, I cannot imagine any angle that would work.
