  1. Wikipedia entry on Eclipso. The character and concept has been changed a lot. I think the “Hero and Villain is Same Guy!” version works best, though most of the plots centered on man-made eclipses.
  2. Wouldn't that alien race be exclusive to Titans, which isn't seen as part of the Arrowverse? (I know, it's a part of the multiverse, but the people on Earth-Prime think there's just the one universe, never mind one for every DC-inspired show)
  3. Andy Dehnart of Reality Blurred re-evaluates Tough As Nails. He's come around to really appreciating it. Sadly, even though a second season has been ordered, I imagine CBS execs binging episodes of Love Island, thinking to themselves, "This is a good representation on the blue collar worker in America. Now . . . how can we add fucking?" Feel asleep watching tonight's episode, though that's more about me. Both tasks were rough, especially running, grabbing filled garbage bags, and tossing them onto a moving garbage truck. Sadly, Michelle ends upon the bottom, and she loses Overtime to Myles. Next week: individual firefighting-themed task! But given the teaser and Young's luck in general, I'm certain he'll be working Overtime yet again.
  4. Well, this was fun. I think Courtney might have taken the torch from Supergirl in terms of empowerment and friendship. Courtney and her new Justice Society saved the day, albeit with a few villains. Sure, Icicle's death was more for laughs than drama, but watching Mike basically Dophinder him? Couldn't happen to a worse guy. Yolanda killing Brainwave has a little wiggle room; I figure that he might have seen what was to come, posed as Henry to Yolanda, then faked his own death. I mean, it probably did happen, but that would involve the great and powerful mind-reading god getting one-shot by a kid. The sad thing? I think her parents would forgive that before the selfie. Is it bad that I think Beth is the weak link? Her only "power" was Chuck, and the goggles have now been destroyed. Rick gets closure with Grundy, and maybe he can work on character growth next season. I didn't think Justin was an extra wheel, and I'm guessing he left to rediscover himself. Sadly, it looks like the principal's kid is going to slide into villainy, and Cindy will probably help him. The bit with the diamond? That's a bit surprising, especially since I think the best use of the "Eclipso" concept didn't actually having Eclipso in a starring role (the two-part "Eclipsed" in Justice League). But there was an Eclipso running with the JSA in the comics for a while, and Cindy is unhinged enough, so what the fuck, right? And yeah . . . with James Robinson writing for the show, I am eagerly looking forward to Shade. Sylvester coming back? Eh, why not? Gambler got out, right? Ditto Sportsmaster and Tigress? I seriously want Artemis to be a little sick over how her folks were the absolute worst sports parents. You might have read that from Robinson's run on Starman, when Grundy was with the good guys for a while. Or maybe Infinity Inc. does either book sound familiar? *snff* You gotta ove when the never-would-be properties get cameos. I did read Mark Russell's Prez reboot, and it was satirical gold, but DC pulled the plug on that. Any guesses on how the ISA's aborted coup was spun into a Midwestern earthquake? Especially where you had friggin' teens right fucking there as the satellite popped out? Nobody took a picture? No social media? Was Chuck doing that on the side while helping Beth and putting the screws to Gambler?
  5. Death Battle returns; Beerus pitted against Sailor Galaxia.
  6. I screwed up. Turns out that some of the episodes that are "On Demand" on my cable are from something called AMC Premiere, which I do not have. That locks me out of stuff from Seasons 4-6. Here's the show's site on AMC Premiere; you can check out what episodes through the "Seasons" tab. And here's the site on IFC.com. I think there is overlap between the two.
  7. Yes. Just two, though. Toonami is doing Batman stuff the next two weekends, so there won't be anything "new" until August 29. Both episodes ("Verso Il Colosseo Di Roma" and "Green Tea and Sanctuary Part 1") are on Adult Swim's site. As far as nemeses for the gang go, Cioccolata and Secco carry their weight. We got a sadistic doctor and someone that I can only call a "gimp." Their Stands are tight as well; "Green Tea" (Green Day) generates lethal mold based off downward movement, while "Sanctuary" (Oasis) allows Secco to liquefy and travel through the ground. In other news, Bruno is basically dead, and he's at peace with it. Because Jojo.
  8. FYI: this episode will be run tonight at 11:10 p.m.

Hey, I think the same way as The Onion!
  12. Anyone else climb back on the Jojo horse? Last episode introduced a mysterious ally, as well as the Boss sending two Stand-using assholes to kill our heroes. ETA: Rewatching the episode now. Bit of foreshadowing on the mystery guy if you’re sharp enough to notice it.
  13. Bumping up because Toonami has put this series back in the lineup, starting with “The Blacksmith’s Dream.” I think it’ll run through the end of the first season, followed by the upcoming second season.
  14. Man, the season feels like it's ending too soon. Or maybe the times we live in make us appreciate the art of Luke Wilson acting dumb. Good thing Pat got the assist from Mike and the drill. I think Crusher and Paula might be enhanced, as opposed to "merely" being vicious with their toys. As far as cliffhangers go, having the main adults cocking their heads and looking dazed is pretty good. As one would expect by now, Pat did not think of prepping STRIPE with protection. In his defense, I don't think there's a defense from Brainwave's device. I think Principal Bowen (Bowin?) is still alive. I'm happy that she told off Sportsmaster and Tigress, for all the good it did her. I'd like to think Artemis will be horrified when she finds out that her parents are card-carrying supervillains. "Are you kidding me?!? Is that why I had nine Pee Wee football coaches in the span of two years? And that only four of the bodies were recovered?!? I feel for Mike. He's the last to know about what's been going on, and Pat assigns him to look after the dog. I mean, Mike has zero training in dealing with the ISA, and making sure the lovable squishy-faced bully is a good assignment, but I understand his butthurt. "Mike, Pat loves you. He just doesn't want you to get hurt. I get to battle because this magical staff chose me. You want to know why I was whining to my mother for the past few weeks? Because I thought the guy who used the staff was my dad. Man, it sounds so stupid when I say it now, doesn't it?" I can't see Cindy switching sides. I can see Henry having survived, and that his death was basically his father's magic feather. I would hae went with "Doctor Mid-Nite was my arch nemesis!" At which point, Beth would quip, "Really? I thought greasy chicken was your arch-nemesis." And then Barbra would howl in laughter until the Brainwave shit affected her. "Nice accent. Were you the one that helped out Daniel Craig for Knives Out?"
  15. Watching filler, from after Tsunade became Hokage. Sakura wants to cozy up to Sasuke during a fireworks event, but Naruto would be a third wheel . . . so she asks Hinata to join her. Hinata freaks the hell out because pre-timeskip Hinata. She's running around like a lunatic. Sakura: Are you gonna come or not? (Hinata mad-dashes back to Sakura) Hinata: I'm coming! Absolutely! Come on. COME ON.
  16. I just want an ending. This isn't a "Just end this shit already!" thing like with, say, Smallville. I just don't feel invested in the series finale, even though I've seen the entire run. And once again, if it's revealed that Steve Rogers had to spend three decades fixing the chronological screw-ups of the past few seasons, I wouldn't be too shocked.
  17. I finished the last three episodes of Season 8. I'm guessing that was one of the peaks in MST3K history. Space Mutiny, Time Chasers, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank . . . that's one hell of a block. And I didn't think that last one was bad. I think you'd have to watch some early/mid-Eighties Doctor Who to "get" Raul Julia's bizarre adventure. Given the weird future setting and the dated SFX, you'd half-expect a TARDIS to pop up, see Peter Davison stick his head out of the door . . . then immediately flee the scene. I also watched all of S12 save for the finale. Fun to see them push the envelope . . . up to and including a musical number in the middle of Killer Fish. And I thought they weren't going to cover intentionally crap movies like Sharnado and its ilk. So why did they cover Atlantic Rim? Here's the current schedule from IFC. Times can and probably will be changed in the near future. Friday, 6:00 a.m.: Mac and Me August 12, 4:00 a.m.: The Day Time Ended (just a big load of WHAT THE FUCK) August 13, 7: 15 a.m.: Space Mutiny August 14, 3:30 a.m.: Space Mutiny (because why the fuck not?!?) August 13, 7:00 a.m: Boggy Creek II, and the Legend Continues August 16, 4:30 a.m.: Time Chasers August 17, 6:45 a.m.: Overdrawn At The Memory Bank August 21, 6:00 a.m.: Killer Fish August 21, 8:15 a.m.: The Girl in Gold Boots August 23, 5:30 a.m.: Cry Wilderness ("Happy Bigfoot, everyone!") August 24, 6:30 a.m.: Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders And there are a lot of Joel-era episodes on the website, including Manos, The Hands of Fate and I Accuse My Parents. ETA: Actually, the stuff from the website is over the first four seasons. But I did see S5 stuff on my cable system.
  18. Meh. He’s still an asshole, and I wouldn’t consider him sane even if he didn’t have the sister fixation. Gordon’s family seemed nice. Possibly inbreeding, but fine. And Gordon is so happy with having friends, he doesn’t mind having Gauche and Grey with him. For some of the Black Bulls, that would be considered punishment.
  19. What would be on at 8? Big Brother? With CBS, I can see them bumping TAR back to Friday nights. At 2 a.m. After Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen.
  20. I’ll admit that this show is more background noise for me. I don’t mentally keep notes as to who’s who or what’s going on. While I know that there have been a few pains in the ass, I don’t think anyone is worth the rage. Of course, CBS is risking people’s health with a Big Brother, probably because TAN doesn’t excite people. It’ll be moved to 9 p.m., and I’ll have to miss it for the Agents of SHIELD finale next week. At least it’ll be on prime time. Goodness knows where Phil’s “other” show will air. ”Young, you’re going back into Overtime.” “But I got my fallen man down!” “Yeah, but he landed on his head.” I’m good with Michelle staying in the game. Also, is it messed-up for me to want Tony Paolo from TAR8 to oversee the sanitation stuff next week?
  21. “Drew? It’s ANW. How are you? Yeah, we know. Listen . . . you were planning on retiring after you won last year, right? No, we’re on your side, but maybe you could take a year off? We mean 2020 plus one. Get things sorted, come back fresh. Maybe do The Challenge. Wait, no, that is a silly show. What? No, we won’t be riding Daniel’s jock while you’re gone. Just . . . get things cleared up, then we’ll see you again. What? Of course Akbar sees you. Akbar sees everybody.”
  22. Shit, man. Shit. Given how ANW has the year off, I'm thinking NBC might send a message to all of their stars, letting them know that if they fuck up even a fraction as bad, they're going to be dumped into the deepest hole imaginable.
