I figured out Joe Montana straight away (go, Niners!), but couldn't connect Joe to any movie characters. I've never seen that movie. So, no FJ for me. I did get the TS of desertion, vitamin K, Philistines, anemia, Rubens, and Avis. I only have a vague recollection of Lloyd, but he certainly annoyed me tonight.

The mention of shoes in combination with "hunting clothes" made me think of the Bean Boot.

Archive game for me from last night -- I finally finally got to see Poor Things! I didn't think it was ever going to be shown at a theater near me! (I liked it, but will say it's not a mainstream-type movie, so may not be everyone's cup of tea.) Anyway, FJ was an instaget, and I got the TS of Hitler Youth, and abolish and polish.

"Furious jumping." I *finally* got to see this last night. Only when it started getting so much awards buzz did it finally arrive in my semi-rural neck of the woods. I thought it was well worth the wait! It was both horrifying and hilarious -- sometimes at the same time. The full frontal nudity surprised me a bit. It's quite uncommon, especially full frontal male nudity. But the sex scenes served a purpose. Bella was, quite literally, discovering herself and discovering pleasure. Until she got bored with it as a sex worker. I am torn about the ending, though. Overall, I loved it. But then I really liked The Lobster, too.

Charles Osgood has died. https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/23/us/charles-osgood-death/index.html He was such a good host of CBS Sunday Morning -- definitely a worthy successor to Charles Kuralt.- 3.5k replies

Huh. I thought Virginia had the most.

I said Ohio without any confidence, just because there have been so many from Ohio. I was not surprised to be wrong. But I did get the TS of fishnet, Earth Day, The Time Traveler's Wife, and Andrew Wyeth.

I saw it a couple of months ago. I can't say I enjoyed it, because it's not an enjoyable movie. A man is found dead on the ground outside the home. Was he pushed? Did he fall? Did he jump? It was an interesting journey, and I liked it quite a lot. It was quite well-written and very well-acted.

You definitely want people like that in front of you. That way they can't follow you if you make a turn. And you can make a turn and lose them if they're in front of you.

2/5 this week, with an asterisk!

Sadly, I focused on "circus" and went with Barnum. I didn't even pay attention to the year or anything else. Oh well. I did get the TS of rats, Busch Stadium, 42nd Street, and Howard Hughes.

Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar
Browncoat replied to candall's topic in Everything Else
Could it be because it sounds similar to huffy? I also like chuffed, and may or may not have used it (correctly!) on occasion. -
I am gobsmacked that I got FJ! Mind you, I only got it because I couldn't remember Ho Chi Minh's name. Yes, I know, Ho Chi Minh City and all, but I just drew a blank. The only other person of that era I could remember was the correct response to FJ, so I shrugged and wrote it down, thinking it was wrong. As I said, gobsmacked. I also got the TS of Wellesley, hyperbole, New Orleans, and Oregon.

Google and all its friends (gmail, etc.) are in French on my work computer today. No, I do not live in France! I've changed it back to English several times, but it still wants to be in French!

Why Grammar Matters: A Place To Discuss Matters Of Grammar

I am a biologist, and have always pronounced it zo-ology. Zoo-ology would be the study of zoos. I am with you, @SoMuchTV! -
Snow mostly melted off my car, mostly due to radiant heating -- it did not get above freezing today. I think it might tomorrow and Friday before a truly brutal (to me) blast comes in Saturday. Highs that day are meant to be in the teens. And of course there will be wind. There is always wind.

Instaget FJ for me tonight. I also got the TS of recount, invoice, and lapis lazuli. I might have gotten some in the fish category if I'd been able to look at the clue a little longer. But probably not.
-
Instaget FJ here, unlike in regular Jeopardy. And another good game with a nice balance of silly and serious. I think Mo needs new glasses, the way he was straining to see the clues. But good for him. For the longest time, I really didn’t like him, but he’s grown on me the last few years, so I was rooting for him.

Rachel is killing it so far.

Did not get FJ today. I didn't even have a guess. I'm off to a terrible start this week! I did get the TS of Fourth Amendment, hard hat, halftrack, and fake snake.

I will say I am glad that the snow was light and powdery. I was able just to push the shovel along instead of having to lift. I would have had to hire someone to do the shoveling if it had been wet and heavy, as I injured my back a couple of weeks ago. It's just a muscle strain/sprain, but I did a damn fine job of it, and can barely lift a laundry basket much less a shovelful of snow. But my walkway is clear, my car is snow-free, and I'll be able to get out of my driveway when I need to, so it's all good. Except for that part where it's 20F with wind chills closer to 10F. The temps have been dropping all day. I just don't know how y'all who live farther north can stand the constant cold, snow, and wind every year. (We're meant to be back in the 50s next week.)

Snow day! This storm gave us our first significant (measurable) snowfall in almost two years. It's just a couple of inches, maybe three, although it's still snowing a little, and I'm already tired of it. I dread the next few days, too, as the temperatures are meant to drop dramatically, and the wind is meant to pick up. I don't really mind the cold, but I don't like the wind.

For fiction, Sharyn McCrumb sets most (if not all) of her books in Virginia -- an often overlooked part. A couple of Barbara Kingsolver's are set in Virginia, and one in Kentucky, I think.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I HAAATE the Liberty commercial with the baby. My hate is compounded by it playing during every single commercial break, no matter what channel I'm watching.
