  1. I liked it better when there were more doggies and fewer sloths, chickens, parrots, hamsters, gerbils, pigs, ducks, bunnies and whatever else they've had. I get it -- all sorts of animals are abandoned and need homes, but it's Puppy Bowl, not pig bowl! And I hated the halftime show this time, too. Too much CGI and not enough actual kitties.
  2. Scientific/technical writing is a completely different animal than creative writing. Not to say that people can't do both, but just because you can do one doesn't necessarily mean you can do the other.
  3. No worries, @ChitChat. I just wondered. Y'know, while we were wondering things. :)
  4. I wondered if it was going to change randomly to keep us paying attention?
  5. Oh, god, I'd forgotten about that piece of idiocy. Blech indeed.
  6. I'd love it if they re-released the real originals, and it has little to do with Greedo and Han. All the extraneous CGI (including that atrocious scene with Han and Jabba) are what ruins the "Special" editions for me. My UO about the originals is that I love the Ewoks and the Yub Nub song.
  7. Alimony used to go either until the recipient died or remarried.
  8. This will be my fourth -- in two of the other three, he performed "Alice's Restaurant", which was extra awesome.
  9. Arlo is Woody's son, and I'm going to go see Arlo in concert in a couple of weeks! Woody was indeed born in Oklahoma. Can everyone else see their own "like" hearts? Mine seem to have disappeared for me. I guess we can't like our own posts anymore (or see how many likes we have!).
  10. As glad as I am that Ryan is gone, and even though she didn't bother me too much today, I have a feeling Jenny's going to annoy me on Monday. And Ryan's little fist pump when middle girl missed FJ? Not cool, Fonzie wanna-be. Not cool. I can't believe two of them missed FJ! I also can't believe it took me as long as five seconds to come up with the right answer -- and now I'll have OOOOOOOOOOOOK!-lahoma! running through my head for the rest of the night at least. Hey, look! A Women Authors category! I think I ran that one (Cleary? For "Are You There, God?" Inconceivable!), getting the TS of Kristin Hannah (or was that a missed DD?), along with other TS of Loyola, Van Halen, and Xavier.
  11. I figured Sheldon was the one who was murdered.
  12. Only if it changes the pronunciation. However Ryan spelled Kerouac, it was still pronounced the same.
  13. Sam Houston was born in Virginia, and Jim Bowie was from Kentucky.
  14. Dammit, Justin, you let us down! A real chance to rid us of Ryan, and you blew it! Mind you, I didn't know FJ either, but still! I don't know much about football, but I do know that Landry and Cowboys were basically synonymous for a very long time. That TS surprised me, though it probably shouldn't have. I also got the football TS of fair catch and offsetting penalties. That was just a sad category. Other TS I got were Lawrence of Arabia, tabbouleh, titanium, non-partisan, indigent, Six Feet Under, and Ugly Betty. I didn't like the tie Alex wore with that suit -- I liked them each well enough individually, but I didn't think they went well together.
  15. I am sad to see Well Strung go. They did an amazing job with the comeback, assuming I can believe the editing showing me that they and Big Brother were both looking for the pit stop at the same time. I've never watched Big Brother, so I have no preconceived notion about this team, but I'm ready for them to be out. Which means they'll probably win. Prague is beautiful. The greeter? Not so much. I hoped it would be a double leg if not a non-elim.
  16. He was bouncing during the introductions, too.
  17. I wanted either middle guy or end woman to win and end Ryan's run. The leather jacket and his posing with it (along with the bouncing) can go any time. FJ was painfully easy for me. I never realized how the company got its name, either, but it makes perfect sense. Astonishing that middle guy couldn't come up with anything. I also was surprised that end woman couldn't come up with Pirates of Penzance -- buccaneers was in the clue! I also got Rubik (someone should have gotten that after Ryan's miss), and Shining Star.
  18. Ryan needs to stop bouncing. Also what was that strange noise he made when he hit the DD during the first round? I will not be sad when he loses. I really wanted Brandy to win -- I love her hair. Apparently there's a mass exodus from North Carolina -- yesterday we had Mt. Airy moving to Pennsylvania, and now Kitty Hawk has migrated to Ohio! The SCUBA question made me think of Family Ties, when Alex was trying to help Mallory for a quiz bowl-type competition. Mallory: "Self-contained underwater breathing apparatus!" Alex: "Who invented it?" Mallory: "Magellan!" If I ever have to answer that question for real, I'll probably miss it. I also picked Icarus for FJ, but I did get the TS of Dayton, Love Letters, darken (sad that none of them knew Tom Petty's song!), Three Rivers, and Lumiere. If you haven't seen the video for "Don't Come Around Here No More", go watch it. It's arguably one of the best from MTV's early days, when it actually played videos.
  19. It honestly would not have hurt my feelings if they had all lost. Jennifer killed me with the wink at the beginning, though I did appreciate her family dressing as characters from Monty Python for a con. Ryan lost me when he didn't start at the top of the category. And of course they all lost me with their boneheaded guesses. I'm inclined to call foul for the reversal of open marriage and Italian Greyhound. A Whippet is an entirely different breed. My first thought for FJ was American flag, too, but I knew it was wrong. I had to do a little thinking to come up with something else people would burn in the 60s, but did come up with draft card. I couldn't keep track of all the TS and missed DDs, but I do remember these that I got: Akita, North Carolina, Hannibal, The Snowy Day, and The Ice Storm. I currently have postage stamps that honor The Snowy Day. Here's hoping tomorrow's game doesn't suck quite so hard.
  20. Man, I really have forgotten most of those details! And nope, not going to go back to refresh my memory.
  21. Wasn't that accomplished when they chose their factions at 16? They didn't necessarily stay in the faction they grew up in -- at least Tris and her brother didn't, and were less likely to marry someone from their "home" faction. Mind you, it has been a while since I read the books, and I've tried to forget them and the first movie as much as possible.
  22. Like whether it takes diesel or regular gas? How many teams have put the wrong fuel in?
  23. Sorkin didn't pick the name Molly for the movie, though. Molly Bloom was a real person.
