  1. Catching up from last night -- I did get FJ, but I had to think about it. Sort of, "Oh, wait, it was Victoria's husband! What was his name? Or right, Albert!" I barely managed to write it down in time, but I did. I also got the TS of bang on the drum, Ratt, and eyeteeth. Hooray for Ken's pronunciation of genre!
  2. Woo hoo! A good start to the season with an instaget FJ. What a great first round -- no TS! And not too many in the second round, but I did get a few, including Sir Patrick Stewart, snake, Interstate 10, racquetball, and L'anse aux Meadows, although I probably wouldn't have been able to pronounce that last one. SMH at 12 Downing Street.
  3. I'm in! And I might even try to keep up with asterisks this season.
  4. Do cortisone shots and pain meds show up on drug tests? Are there drug tests for this level of competition? The skiing itself seemed kind of basic, too. Not that there was anything wrong with it, but I feel like I've seen more complex runs. I also didn't realize D'Arcy skied moguls. Ha! George Takei the Grey trying to explain "Oh my". I really felt bad for Asta, though. Harry telling the birth mom to smoke more was great.
  5. I hope he hasn't been swallowing any of that stuff he's been chewing up! That might upset his tummy.
  6. That'll teach me to read! I didn't even pay attention to the words written in the post above the trailer. D'oh! Thanks!
  7. Hardly ever, even when I tell them it's from a movie and explain the scene. They laugh when I say it, though. I used it just yesterday!
  8. I have Raynaud's -- warm jackets and gloves come out in the low 50s. Despite that, I'd still rather it be on the cold side than the hot side of things. And yes, humidity does suck.
  9. No way -- it's rainbow skittles and it don't stink, either!
  10. I smuggled Jack Daniels and Sprite into one of those college movies -- emptied a portion of a two-liter of Sprite and replaced it with Jack. I think the movie was "A Clockwork Orange", so being a little drunk was a help.
  11. I wouldn't leave my windows open if I lived in a less rural area! And if I didn't have thorny shrubs and brambles below the windows.
  12. I love keeping my windows open in the spring so I can wake up to the glorious dawn chorus.
  13. Part of that is just because it's fall. Birds have (mostly) fledged their babies, and are leaving their nesting territories. They have less reason to sing, as a lot of the spring and summer chorus is all about finding a mate and defending territory. Plus, migration has started around here (not sure where you are), so some of the summer birds are leaving to go south.
  14. I buy canned salmon because I love the bones. I take them out of the fish and eat them before I do anything else with the salmon. I do not, however, eat the fish skin.
  15. I just saw this, and I really liked it a lot. The Djinn’s stories were both beautiful and compelling (as was the Djinn himself), and Tilda was perfect for her role. I love that she let him go in the end. Wonderfully philosophical and magical. I might even shell out to see it again in the theater.
  16. Only "Rascals", but that doesn't really count, because the "children" were Picard, Guinan, Ro, and Keiko in child form. And the kids did a great job acting like their adult counterparts.
  17. "Look forward to" is not a phrase I'd use with any Pern book NOT written by Anne herself. Todd's are a pale imitation, and the one by the daughter (whose name I've successfully blocked from my brain -- along with the name of the book she wrote) is a complete abomination.
  18. I went to college with Chip and his wife, Patty. I knew her, but only met him once or twice while they were dating.
  19. I do use "y'all" all the time. And I use "all y'all" if there's a big group of people and I want to emphasize that everyone is included. But "y'all" is never singular, and it's also not "ya"ll" or any other spelling. I've heard "you-uns" in east Tennessee.
  20. I rarely say, "ain't", and even then I'm usually quoting a movie. My favorite "ain't" quote is from "Support Your Local Sheriff" -- James Garner asks Harry Morgan why there aren't any bars on the jail cell, and Harry replies, "We had to order them, and they ain't arrove yet." I do a lot of purchasing for work, so "they ain't arrove yet" gets a lot of use.
  21. Peeve of the day: colored headlights on cars, especially blue. Although I saw some particularly offensive green ones this morning.
  22. I use a string mop at work when I have a spill, but I have the corresponding mop bucket that has the part on top that squishes the mop. So, no, I've never had to wring out a string mop by hand.
  23. Those bills look fine to me! As for the Scottish pounds, I've always heard that you can easily spend English pounds in Scotland, but you'll have a hard time spending Scottish pounds in England. And the further south from Scotland you go, the harder time you'll have!
