Of all the things in curious about is how did they (the family) not know the cousins were actual sisters? I gave more questions. It was a fine pilot. Most pilots are just fine IMO. I'll give it another go. I watched mostly to support Chestnut. I like the actor playing Shinwell from GOT so that was nice. I like Randall Park as well so I'll see how well he plays a bad guy. How old are these doctors working with Watson? They seem awfully young. Are they supposed to be like Doogie Howser?

Beyond the Gates: Daily Episode Discussion
nicepebbles replied to tessaray's topic in Beyond The Gates
I've only seen the 1st episode. I enjoyed it for it being a first episode. Generally speaking, 1st episodes are okay. What I didn't like reminded me why I gave up soaps yet I'm here to support Tunie and Clifton. Thoughts in no particular order. I'm trying to remember them all since I watched a few days ago. - There's something I don't like about Dani. I think it may be the actress. I'm glad though that they gave her those lines about not knowing what she's going to do now that her life plan has been upended. - Homeboy playing Bill is going to get typecast. - Agree with those that think the white couple were boring. They were telegraphing so loud that there will be trouble in paradise. It better not be because of Andre. I'm going to be shallow and say he can do better. - The diner conversation was a bit stilted. - The country club must be like being at home because they were mighty comfortable talking about family business there. - Real estate lady (I don't remember her name) took the commission from Bill and his side-piece though she friends with Dani. I can see this being a recurring theme with her. -
I didn't get all the nursery rhyme characters either. I think overall the girls did well. I liked most of the looks for the mother look s well. The mother/father was hit of miss. I agree with the top 3. I'm not sure Geneva didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3. That last outfit wasn't flattering at all. I loved Nymphia's look. I'm not sure how much of it was menswear. I like Hershii. Her last outfit wasn't it and she didn't bring it. I kept waiting for her to and nothing.

I can't stand Jane. She's pretty and not afraid to be silly. I like that. Her attitude is just ugh. I thought I understood her strategy. After reading y'alls comments, I don't know now. I love Nymphia! I hope Myh'ia isn't one note. I don't remember enough about anyone's talent to comment except I thought Nymphia's was the best or one of the best.

Past vs Present: Matlock Comparisons
nicepebbles replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Matlock (2024)
The more episodes I watch, I'm not liking that they used the name. I agree it was purely for name recognition. Though I will concede they are similar superficially so TPTB would probably argue it's not a name recognition thing. -
I thought Shae was referring to being able to tell that something romantic was going on between Olympia and Elijah, which is ridiculous. I found Shae to be annoying. She doesn't have to come back. If she does, the character needs to tone it down. Not clear on why she's called Meerkat. I don't like Olympia's style in court. She's a hair from being over the top. I enjoyed Matty's closing. It wouldn't fly IRL. I know Mattie says the lying is hard. She can do it as well as she does because enough of it is based on truth. That's what would sell the speech IRL if it was depersonalized. To me, it's also what allowed her to sell it (i.e., the audience believe it) as we watched it. Part of me hopes, she gives the recording back to Olympia. The other part of me says she shouldn't, at least not any time soon. It's too soon to be softening.

I don't usually watch legal shows, and I can be pretty nitpicky. For some reason, I’ve overlooked the problems with this show. I think it's the fact that I don't watch a lot of TV and miss this kind of comfort shows. CONS I don't buy for a single second that Olympia and Julian are married. Olympia is out of Julian's league. Making Olympia seem idiotic for potentially getting into a thing with Elijah. Making the Asian woman the ambitious one and a bitch at that. Seems lazy. PROS I like the casting and think they have chemistry. Pilots are usually hit or miss with me. I think the chemistry between the cast is selling it. NOT SO SURE ABOUT I'm not sure her being a rich woman out for revenge is more interesting than the backstory she created. I know a lot of shows like to have these overarching themes and what not. I went into this thinking it was a remake of Matlock and was looking forward to COTW storylines. (Admittedly, though I initially didn’t want to watch because I thought it was just a remake and I’m kind of tired of those. Then someone whose judgment I trust, said they like it so I gave it a shot.) Time will tell if the writers can really keep this up. I will say the plot twist did make me want to keep watching. Chicago Redshirt, mentioned Profit way back. Still mad to this day that the show was cancelled. It was a head of its time.

S1. E12 Dance Like the World Is Watching
nicepebbles replied to Ms.Lulu's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
So happy Alyssa won! For me, it was between her and Nelly, with Alyssa being my top choice! I love this take on the editing. I hadn't thought of that. I think the part of this episode that made me laugh as in "What?" were all the times people kept saying Kween was kind. The editing more often displayed the opposite that. I must say Kitty's ode to Barbie, while cute, left me cold. It wasn't good enough for the final competition. -
I started watching S2 after watching S1 recently. As I started S2, I realized I had watched at least part of it years ago. I was immediately reminded that I disliked Tyra then and I dislike her now. She does lack warmth as Merle said and she has a nasty attitude. I'm only on S2E5. I'm annoyed she's going to win. I like Pandora Boxx. Her style may not be the best; there's just something about her that has me rooting her. I think Titianna is the prettiest. I like Jujubee and Raven. I can see why some don't like Raven. She's kinda one note with the makeup and can be bitchy. I can't stand Sonnique and Morgan. Too full of themselves. And I really like Jessica Wild. Compared to S1, S2 does appear to be a downgrade as far as production quality. I can't believe that Jessica Glasscock made it to the final 3 in S1. She was only pretty. She didn't have anything else going for her compared to the final 2. I forget who Glasscock beat in the lip sync for your life. (I can see the face but can't remember the name.) I just know that girl got robbed.

I would have a choice between Crystal Denny or Honey Kenwood. I think both of them would be the complete opposite of myself, just over the top with everything.

S1.E11: Global All-Stars Lalaparuza!
nicepebbles replied to davidcalgary29's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
When I heard the playlist, I was okay with it because I honestly couldn't remember ever hearing any of the songs before. I wonder if the girls given the list of songs before and should've been prepared to sing them. If so, no excuse not to know the words when $50k is on the line. It's been a few days since I've seen the episode and I don't remember any of the girls being on point with both the singing and dancing. I do think Eva was eliminated too early. Gala did lose her wig but I don't remember Miranda doing much of anything. Of the two, makes sense to me that Soa won. Agreed that it was kinda boring. Did they need a filler episode or something? While it was good to see all the girls again, I wanted to see the finale. -
Global All Stars S01.E09: Re-United Nations Makeover
nicepebbles replied to Starchild's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
Agreed! I'll miss her. I kept wondering if I missed something or something happened off screen because Kween's attitude towards Nelly was uncalled based on what was shown. It's telling that no one agreed with her. Pyhthia absolutely didn't deserve that. She's one of my faves! Keen was one of my favorites at the start. Now she's at the bottom. I think they all did good to great with their runway. I mostly agree with the judges as far as the critiques. Miranda was spot on when talking to Ru and Raven. I wondered if something happened to Raven because she was walking funny. I also feel like she was wasted. She barely spoke. I do think they need to mix up the challenges more to highlight a variety of talents. I'm glad Kitty got knocked down a peg a bit. -
S01.E08: Mmm... A Rich International Roast
nicepebbles replied to SnapHappy's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
I love punS! She was cracking me up. Vanity is the lip sync assassin. Sad to see Pythia go. She's one of my favorites. I'm glad Nelly was funny and Kitty had to eat her words a bit. The editing is making her insufferable. -
S01.E07: The Snatch Game of Love
nicepebbles replied to davidcalgary29's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
Pythia was robbed! Absolutely robbed! Agreed on the comments about Kween and Nelly. Kween was one of my favorites. Not any more. And her runway look was very grandma-ish. I will say her Snatch Game character was a choice and I loved it. -
S01.E06: It's a Five O'Clock Shadow Somewhere!
nicepebbles replied to davidcalgary29's topic in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars
Kitty is a cow. I liked her at first. Now, not so much. Nelly said she was upset because of her skill level and the type of fabric. No one also considered that it's stressful and she was in her head. During the same episode when Vanity was in hers. All the sympathy she got. Maddening. She was no different from Alyssa that complained multiple times about what she got. I guess because Alyssa is funny it went down better. As well as I think the girls are holding grudges against Nelly from her comments about some of them not liking her. The emotional intelligence of some of these girls is lacking. I liked/loved all the looks. I think Alyssa could've done better. I didn't love it but wanted to. I knew Tessa was going to win as soon as she came out. (Not sure how she won the mini challenge. Maybe I missed the point of it. She looked crazy AF. Maybe that was the point.) I'm so surprised considering her pink dress was terrible. I really liked Vanity's look. I can see why she wasn't in the bottom. To have made that in an hour is crazy. I thought Gala looked good but it was basic to me so I'm not surprised she was in the bottom two. -
The show could've really benefited fun better writers or them putting it away and coming back to it. There's no reason why Craig and Zara are a couple. None. It's not clear why they are all BFFs. I'm not sure why Gemma and Ainsley were friends. The actors playing Gemma and Duffy did their best, I wasn't quite sold on their relationship. They thru every rom-com troupe in this thing and it felt like to much at times. Despite these complaints, I had some genuine LOL moments and the acting was good. It definitely didn't need a S2. I read a review that, if I remember correctly, the movie benefited from only having to fill 2 hours. You would think having more time would be better. Not so much if the writers are more concerned with hitting all the rom-com troupes rather than telling a cohesive story. I mostly kept watching to see how Maya and Cash would end up together and when. I don't think it should be compared with the film. It only shares a title. As a standalone work, it's 3/5 (good). It could've be great.

My kids watch this show because of their grandmother. The writing leaves something to be desired. Cocoa annoyed me this episode with her reaction to the go karts and Moz was ridiculous in thinking his kids could keep a secret. The worse the Bible study. Humiliating a kid because they got an answer wrong seems the opposite of being a good person as the Bible teaches. Complete hypocrisy.

I saw about 20-30 mins of this movie on a plane ride. From what I saw, the performances were good. I agree that AJ was really good. I hated her character so much. I also liked what I think the movie was going for, in principle at least. What had me stop watching was MR playing 15yo. That took me out of the movie. And I found out I couldn't really take the "this is everyone's version of events, who knows what is the truth". I appreciate the full warning though. I like black comedies and this was going for that. I guess I was expecting more truth especially since I have forgotten everything about that situation except that it happened. And it didn't really feel right that his was treated as a comedy even a black comedy. Tonya's mother was horrendous and at 15 Tonya is starting to be abused by her boyfriend. I just had to stop watching. I really wanted to watch the whole thing but just had to turn it off.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019)
nicepebbles replied to Morrigan2575's topic in Movies
I never remember Shaw killed Han until someone brings it up. I blame too many movies (not really a complaint) and a lot going on. And I think that might be the one of the 2 movies (one being Tokyo Drift) that I didn't see. I saw a trailer. It just made me more excited to see this movie. (Surprised my screen didn't melt from all the hotness.) The fact that this franchise doesn't take itself too seriously, is ridiculous for ridiculous sake, is one of the things I like about it. Agreed, that Shaw and Hobbs working together was one of the best things about the last one. I'll be perfectly happy if they stop making them and just focus on Shaw and Hobbs. I cast my vote for a spin-off or prequel focusing on the Shaw family if I get more of Dame Helen and Jason together. They are good together and who doesn't love Dame Helen? -
I liked the movie a lot for much of the same reasons people here liked it. I've only ever seen JDW from a few episodes of Ballers and LH from Spiderman: Homecoming so they were as good as expected, better, especially LH since she had more to work with here. My one grip is the weird almost ending with Ron and Patrice moving towards the door/window/can't remember. This is definitely one of those movies that who watch once because it's pretty hard to take. Initially, my answer was going to be since it's based on a true story, then the actress was probably cast because she resembles the real life wife. Then this was posted Now I'm like maybe the actress doesn't resemble the real-life wife. I never got the impression that her husband had an issue with her weight so he probably genuinely "loved" her. I put that in quotes because he obviously didn't treat her well all time. I already planned to read the book. Now I really want to read it because so much has been changed.

I love this movie! It had me cracking up from beginning to end. I had no idea it was based on a true story.

@topanga: Where I'm at I don't have cable, just the streaming services. When I get cable again, I'll check it out. I just presumed it would be on Netflix forever.
-
Is this show still on Netflix? I went looking for it and couldn't find it. I Googled to see what I could find out and nothing.
-
Would it be MLK? Did he ever travel that far west? I think JFK or Bobby are more likely.

Just finished reading all 32 pages after finally getting caught up for S8. My big question after reading all the pages, is it clear from in the books (I haven't read them) that the NK wants/needs a dragon? Some posters made it seem like the NK was waiting for Dany to come with a dragon; like he knew she had the dragons and just had to bide his time. I didn't get that impression at all from any season. Maybe I wasn't paying attention. I alternately loved the pacing of this show and hated it. This last episode really brought it home for me. It took fucking forever for anyone to go anywhere S1-S6 but now people traveling like everywhere is around the corner. If not for LF dying, the scene in the Dragon Pit, Tyrion and Cersei together, and boat!sex, I wouldn't think much of this episode. LF dying was glorious! He was just terrible and I had no idea, truly, of what his end game would be. I felt like it would be to sit on the Iron Throne with Sansa at his side, which a pipe dream if I ever heard one. Besides Sana's line to LF, my favorite line is, "My apologies." The first time I heard it, I was like, "Don't apologize to her!" Then on rewatch, I was laughing. Cersei's face. I have no idea if Dany/Jon are an endgame couple or not. Seems like every couple that had extended, multiple romantic scenes are are done for so maybe the way the scene occurred will mean they are the endgame. I feel like I should be upset more over the incest since we're clearly supposed to think it's wrong based on Cersei/Jamie and whole the Targs are shit for many reasons but one is they engage in incest. I'm not though. I'm fine with Dany/Jon. I definitely buy their love story more than his with Ygritte. Hated it. If Tyrion's look is about his being in love with her or he's going to betray Dany for Cersei's kid, I will probably lose it. Not everybody has to be in love with Dany. It's unnecessary and kinda feels like if you're not in love with her, she didn't free you, doesn't make you think she's magical because she can walk through fire, no one would follow (if she didn't have the dragons of course). I get feeling guilty for Mycella's and Tommen's death yet come on. This kid ain't even born yet and, though Mycella and Tommen turned out great considering, ain't no way new CerseiSpawn will be a halfway decent human being. She was already a terrible human being when the show started. Now she's much worse. Was the reveal of Jon's parentage a surprise to anyone? I say that because I can be slow on the uptake sometimes and I figured it out way back when. After everything D&D have done up to this episode and what's left to go, I'm keeping my expectations low. There's a lot to get done in 6/7 episodes. I thought I was pretty settled in my opinions on things, then I read all these pages and was like, "The writing really isn't as good as it could be. Huh."
