S17.E14: New Groom, Who Dis?
LennieBriscoe replied to Retired at last's topic in Married At First Sight
Not alone! I posted in favor of them wee hours last Thursday! Said I thought they stood a good chance of joining the Still-Marrieds! -
My Samsung TV Guide has this for Lifetime, 1/31, 8:00 p.m.-- 9:31 p.m.: "Afterparty: Honeyspoonin'." At 9:31 p.m. it's "Prison Brides." Then a 1/2 hour "Afterparty" at 10:34 p.m. ETA: The Lifetime website has it correct: 8:00 p.m. = Episode "Honeyspoonin'." 10:34 p.m. = "Afterparty."

S17.E14: New Groom, Who Dis?
LennieBriscoe replied to Retired at last's topic in Married At First Sight
Just because we aren't shown the couples getting marriage licenses doesn't mean it wasn't done. I mean, it's not exactly riveting television! [Cue all the "But neither is/was...."] Emily is young. Long hair with extensions seems to me the current style for her age. Re: Michael's 2nd wedding. There is another possibility besides "fake drama." Or even besides "show wants to do right by Michael." And behind Door #3 is Michael saying, "I signed a contract to be MAFS, so my actually getting married will allow ABC to avoid legal problems." -

Emily hasn't learned that "Party Girl Who Whoops and Drinks and Dances Sans Culottes" is not a synonym for "Cherished Wife." At least, not to Brennan. As for Chloe's being an actress or just OTT, maybe her conventional appearance hides a Bohemian girl who is absolutely thrilled to be matched with a man matching her interior style! The kind of wife who will live with a conventional white kitchen, but really wants a turquoise fridge. And then wins one! -

Best MAFS episode EVER! Michael and Chloe seem ready to join the pantheon of MAFS Still-Marrieds! Clare seems to be re-assessing Cameron's worth to her. I believe she really did miss him then. Austin is still psychologically hiding from Becca, as that beard takes over his face like kudzu. She should tell him it's a good thing he's "not ready for intimacy," because neither is she, with him! Too bad we had to see a disgusted Brennan walking away from the dancing. What a royal jerk. But then, Emily didn't have to literally whoop it up. ETA: This is it? There's not a different thread I'm missing here? -

Brennan and Austin are Liars Extraordinaire. Watching these two normal young men pretend that waiting for "deeper conversations" or "pressure from getting in my head about it" is somehow preventing them from feeling, ahem, romantic towards their spouses is MADDENING in the assumption we the viewers are as gullible as their "counselors." And frankly, Emily and Becca are equally maddening in their self-debasing "But I think you're HOT" admissions. Boys, get some integrity. Girls, get some pride. -

Dominic Sessa was so wonderful, so natural, in "The Holdovers," so important to practically all of the decisions made by (his teacher) Paul Giamatti, including THE most significant one, that he should have received his award more publicly. I missed it, but for a mention in the interview with Da'Vine. -

Gold Derby predictions. I disagree with their pick of Bradley Cooper over Cillian Murphy for "Best Actor." https://www.goldderby.com/c/film/critics-choice-awards/ -
Brennan and Austin "shut down so fast and so completely" because they knew immediately that their brides didn't and were never going to, how shall I put this, stir their loins. The hot tub scene was painful to watch. Brennan wanted to be anywhere else. He will not touch or even smile at Emily. Apparently Austin has decided to play his part with a bit more energy, including putting his arm around Becca. But he's phony, too.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards (2024)
LennieBriscoe replied to BetterButter's topic in The Golden Globe Awards
Best Supporting Actor: Realizing that the nominations must be narrowed to five, I yet think that one actor should have made the list, IDC who would then have been dropped! Given Paul Giamatti is a serious contender for "Best Actor" awards and did win a GG, IMO a major reason is the actor who shared 90% of Giamatti's screen time, and 9% of the screen without him. His character evinced that maddening, puzzling, and poignant moment of boyish immaturity on the brink of maturity, but not quite there. He accomplishes the feat, more than I think Giamatti's teacher does, at the end of having us wonder what will become of him. An actual Deerfield Academy student when chosen to play Angus Tully: Dominic Sessa. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominic_Sessa -
The 81st Golden Globe Awards (2024)

Re: Actresses. 1.) Michelle Yeoh, in accepting her Oscar last year, made a wisecrack about the musicians' hustling her off with music at their own risk. Somebody thought it was memorable and funny enough to repeat this year. It was neither. 2.) Da'Vine played yet another variation on "The Big Black Nurturing Female Domestic," a cinema favorite since "Gone With the Wind." But instead of working for a wealthy White family, she works for several in the kitchen of a private academy. Just as Octavia Spencer won an Academy Award for "The Help," Da'Vine will win for "The Holdovers." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammy_stereotype 3.) Lily Gladstone. Native American. Instead of one accepting the Oscar for a White man (Marlon Brando), the Academy will seize this unique opportunity to see to it that a NA woman will get to accept her own. ~~~~~~~~~~ The Academy Awards have always been about more than sheer performance.
