Last Tango In Halifax - General Discussion
QuelleC replied to David T. Cole's topic in Last Tango In Halifax
I'm wondering if he is gay too and this was his chance to have a child he obviously wanted. When Caroline complained about men he agreed. I suspect she will be keen on him and find out. I loved the scene where Caroline and Celia were standing off in the distance watching Greg bond and having no clue how to do that with children. Poor Lawrence but he'll have Greg now. And Angus. So much for you all missing out on gay storylines. I also got a huge kick out of the scene with Alan and Celia playing and singing loudly on the out of tune piano while Flora kept crying. They're clearly emergency babysitters only. Caroline was on the phone with Greg. It didn't seem like Alan got to say much but he did have that great conversation with Raff. ETA: You can be a great wife for 18 years and when he betrays you and you connect intimately with another human those things aren't mutually exclusive. I like it how we were filled in a bit. John didn't leave her, she kicked him out and good for her. -

Nicole didn't even get a change of clothes before Dr. Grope hates her again. Now I get why they didn't do the deed, so he can accuse her over and over again of "lying" about it. *bangs head on wall until it feels better* I'm glad I never liked the Shrew for a second. Between this and the heat I don't think summer will ever end. ETA It's tough to be a Nicole fan these days, but I'm hanging in there. She is just awful with Dirty Dan (who scrubs up pink, apparently). Not just the whining and begging either, there's something so, I don't know, fake or higher pitched singsong in the way she interacts with him that she doesn't seem to do with other actors. In a million years I wouldn't guess they're a real life couple. -

I hate seeing Creepy on my screen and Abifail even less so. But watching him make her squirm and lie is a great use of both of them. She can't slap him and tell him to stop walking in on her at home and work because she's hiding a huge secret. -
The only reason for Paige to die is to mess JJ up some more and I don't want to see that, and I don't want to watch Eve moan in real time. Maybe Jenn reaches out to her under that circumstance? I skim through this thread, I don't read the spoiler lists. I can only hope Sami comes back to slap the nasty beast down or at least mock her for days at a time.

Gary and Greg that's for sure. I was calling them both Gary because I couldn't remember the name Greg. I didn't want to say it because I'm really late to this show (I tried to follow S2 reruns before this one started on PBS, I don't think we ever got S1 here) so I was equally confused between Gillian and Celia's names, and I keep forgetting John's name and what's a Raff and whose kid is whose. I've seen Robbie a lot but sometimes I can't tell him from John other than their attitudes. I've watched a ton of BBC but I have to crank this and Poldark up to max to figure out what they're saying. I thought it was interesting when Lawrence was introduced as her youngest. He is, but at the same time Flora is legally, as far as I can tell, his little sister. -

I get it that Hope married a Brady but she's so catholic I couldn't help but think she was brought up that way. Haven't we seen Jenn at holiday mass? I can definitely see them being protestant but it's pretty clear that's been glossed over. I nearly gave up on today after 5 min. Naggie with her disapproval. Shrew threatening to kill Nicole over the heat duct fondling. What does she care?? Eric clenching the catholic confessional thingie agonizing over his erection. So that must mean he loves her, right? And she loves someone else? So the hell what. Get a job, you have too much time on your hands. I'm more than a little nauseous about the guys triangle/quadrangle hanging out as if they're all just friends. WilSon should have cut Paul out of their lives a long time ago. Unfortunately, they made him a Brady so I guess that's the reason we have to deal with this. Thank goodness for Bev's scene at the end, my head whipped around and I actually paid attention. But she wears cutoff shorts like normal people so she's clearly not quality. I get it they're trying to sex up Paige but she continues to dress far too well for having to depend on her position as an RA for her dorm housing. Maybe Grandpa Shane gave her a credit card. She didn't even need the money she stole from Eve. I wanted her to run away to Stanford and now I don't even care. The single booth Pub set is giving me claustrophobia and I just want Xander and Shrew to leave already. -

Yes, and he immediately wanted to go spend a "lunch hour" with her, and does she still go out to the bars, etc. Yikes. -

Boy, not me at all. She looked horrified she would have to be working with this guy but needs the money. She doesn't like to depend on anybody and all that... She reluctantly told him she was going to be working there, he seemed really pushy and leering and glad he'll see her more. When she left she was muttering what I thought I could make out as a swear word or two. Horribly awkward, and she picked up the paper to cool off over it. How else was she going to just happen to see that over the top tabloid spread by Gary? -

Will stood by Gabi's decision. Granted, he was probably even more confused than she but when the plan was found out it was presumed he encouraged her or even talked her into it as if she couldn't make her own decision. No one was more offended than Rafe, who I guess felt it was his moral duty to punch the lights out of Chandler Massey to make sure his much younger sister carried that unintended pregnancy to term. -

Abifail was never an art history prodigy. EJ lured her in over the "bored angel" portrait that sold a million postage stamps. She won one stupid writing contest in college. She effed EJ in Jan 14 so it's not so soon after. That's how long we've been enduring her. It's plot points but is Corday trying to give an opinion? -

Abifail was insulted by the thought Kayla and Hope brought up that she could make a Choice so I don't doubt the morning after pill was out of the question too. Dammit girl if you're going to move in with a guy and having sex as much as you do you're still using condoms? Really? I'm pretty sure University Hospital doesn't have a closely held opinion against birth control as say, St. Lukes, and I've heard IUD's are popular again. There's no excuse for her or the men involved. -

No flames, she made a passing comment about how "careful" she is. I made a joke the other day about getting the Horton Hoo Ha examined in the Horton living room by Jen. If all the accidental pregnancies in all the soaps I've never had to feel like I've had to examine someone's uterus like I do with the Jar Creature. There is no excuse. She's privileged and works at a hospital and takes chances making up for lost time (so much for abstinence only, Corday) and abortion is out of the question. The only interesting point is Kayla asked her, if I understood correctly, that if it were Ben's would she be happy because she's way too focused and determined about Chad. -

Sorry, the only time I liked Safe for a minute was when she was hiding in the safe house. The next image that comes to mind is Incredibly Boring Sami in the plaid shirts trying to be someone she wasn't 'cause he kept 'splainin' what she was supposed to do. He got all uppity when she wanted to get a job. I'm glad she cheated, her heart wasn't into it anyway. He was blah over her leaving the same way he was blah over Jordan leaving. Hope lights him up a bit but his tenure on the show just reminds me of that awful year. There was no reason to break up Lumi, he should have been the father figure during that time since two of the kids are his. He wanted her to be a better person too, but he also knows who she is. Adrienne is an older Days generation, I'm glad they seem to be letting the relationship drop as well as I think JE is doing. I've been resisting the "show is trying to make people into Sami" thing but the entire show yesterday was all about telling Chad and Failure they fight so they must love each other like EJami. UGH. -
Yeah it's so much fun trashing poor people's lives. It's not always a choice. I lived the first ten years of my life in a mobile home court with retired people and a lot of kids because my dad was paying child support to his first wife and it was brand new and almost as big as the house we ended up moving into. Still, I know what is meant by trailer park trash and sadly sometimes it's true. I hadn't seen the landlord case before in case it was a rerun but what a piece of work he was. He couldn't prove the power bill, the stove/fridge (used as it turns out), any damage to the property, seemed to show pictures of two different houses then lied about which was the before and after. Defendant never got her $200 security deposit back but that pretty much balanced out the power bill they didn't deny they owed. I wonder how many of these cases are relitigated. I guess it would be up to another arbitrator willing to take on something settled in binding arbitration. I don't think small claims court would take it under those circumstances unless they weren't told it had already been arbitrated. Mostly people seem fine though because they get to split that appearance fee and the problem is done.

What I don't like about fast food other than I can't afford it, is that the rules keep changing if you can't go often. Which line do you stand in, they forgot to give me a cup at McD last week (after months of being away) and were annoyed I asked about menu changes. I don't mind doing things myself but I'm wondering what happened is they saved money from being so understaffed back in the day that customers got unhappy, then they shifted the service to the customers to save even more money and called those service people in at part time unexpectedly, I could tell you some of those stories.

I said a long time ago Corday is obsessed with the catholic church. Gosh Bev is a breath of fresh air. She isn't perfect and I'm glad. -

This is why we love nicknames. I almost read that as Eric the Priapus. Of the unholy sort of course. It's not as if Eric can have sex unless it's a woman using him, so we're supposed to think the fondling in the heat shaft was That Important. There he was wearing the grey again announcing in a ten year old's voice, I fell in love again, with a ten year old's face sucking his lips in. I wish she's just kick him. Of course Brady barges in on Eeyore and Nicole barges in on Shreweena. Same story, different day. Kayla and Jar Jar. I thought the door was open initially. I thought Kayla was going to start necking her while talking over her right shoulder, and Jar Jar's face looked very weird in that close up. Speaking of evesdropping Nicole said the word yet couldn't figure out Shrew overheard her and Eric? -
I put my soup ideas in the Make It Yourself thread because I thought that's where it belonged. Tonight I took a quart of nice, if I say so myself, spaghetti sauce out of the freezer. I have a bag of organic veg that includes yellow and green squash and the usual rest. I think I'll make a baked pasta topped with cheese and bread crumbs. I'm always about the herb flavors too. As far as stock it's all about skimming and straining. I have - I kid you not - old gauze diapers that I never used for diapers and I rinse them out thoroughly after laundering (no soap) and strain my stock through that. Then launder again.

Something I like to do in the summer is make compound butter for the freezer to preserve fresh herbs. Mainly I do chives or parsley from the garden with a bit of olive oil, maybe a touch of garlic and whip it up, then stir in the herbs. Roll it up in waxed paper in a log and cut it into 1T slices and drop one on a potato in the middle of January. I'll also blend fresh basil and olive oil into sort of a loose paste and freeze them in ice cube trays. Perfect to drop in to a marinara or pizza sauce. You could also add your garlic or cheese and thin it out to make a proper pesto. Chives and basil are not great dried so this is nice to have on hand. Someone asked about chicken soup. I call it, to myself, cleaning out the fridge/freezer soup when you start to see the veggies coming together. I roast 2-3 turkeys a year and pressure can or freeze about 4 quarts of stock each time. I can't bear to throw out any whole poultry without cleaning and simmering it for stock with mirepoix and herbs. So for me "instant soup" is taking out the stock to poach chicken and adding veggies. My son prefers egg noodles so they go in the last 10 min. I often sneak in some shreded cabbage, it melts in and nobody who doesn't like it doesn't know better. To change it up I don't mind adding a bit of chicken to a minestrone if I have that particular veg variety on hand.

They'll make him cut his hair. That's what they do. I like long hair but I really dislike pubes on the face though. Stubble just scratches a woman's face silly.

I just caught a glimpse of KDP playing Kristen Stewart's stepmonster in a movie from about 10 years ago. Her features looked a little heavier than now. I recognized the singsong voice first but it wasn't as southern as she plays it on Days. Still, always nice to catch a Days actor somewhere.

Yeah, let's just give the overpriviledged creature some more money. I said this a while back, Stephono and Creepy Clyde would fight over who could cage the Jar Jar. Creepy knew she'd come into money someday. Any ETA on when Creepy's leaving town? As if it wasn't Already All About Abifail.
