  1. I love the moment when you knew the cameraman was asking themselves “is that Kiernan Culkin?”
  2. I give that a pass, because it seems like Rey is learning from the raw Jedi texts, and not the heavily censored version that was probably taught in the Jedi Temple. Using the Force to create life falls more in line with the dark side, or at least a temptation towards it, which is why I could see the Jedi council nixing that chapter.
  3. I hope Keith Urban is getting a couples discount for all the work he’s had done to his face.
  4. The Fixer Upper episode for a barbdominium just played on HGTV. They converted the entire barn into a house though.
  5. I had forgotten that Derrick was an accountant too. A lawyer AND an accountant should be JB’s worst nightmare.

    The Star Wars Saga

@Cobalt Stargazer you make good points. I mostly isolate myself from social media discussions and prefer places like this to discuss the movies, where I think everyone has rational criticisms and productive conversations, so when we get on the topic of toxic fandom, it seems unfair to discussions going on here, where I think the criticisms are perfectly valid. I didn’t love this new trilogy, but I think I might warm to it with time thanks to some of the concepts brought up here. I’ll also continue to wave my fist at the seeming unlimited power of the First and Final Order because I feel like this trilogy had poor world building that shot itself in the foot from the start. This trilogy hasn’t had the benefit of time for the creators to fill in all the missing details the way George Lucas did for 20 years between the OT and PT. As was discussed in the ROS thread, there were tons of concepts that were never mentioned once in the OT, that people just knew. I’m sure if I walked out of RotJ today without all the supplemental context I’ve absorbed over 30 years, I’d be thinking WTF was that? too.
  7. I definitely see the Duggalos doing some sort of ritzy Christian school. They just don’t seem to have the focus to even pretend to homeschool. The Dillard’s seem to have started homeschooling, but in a few years when Derrick is done with school, he may notice how far behind Izzy is under Jill’s tutelage, and reevaluate. Maybe they’ll do some sort of co-op learning at the least.
  8. I always liked him in Life as a House too, and the Canadian teen drama Higher Ground, where, surprise surprise, he played a troubled, petulant teen, but with better writing and direction.

    The Star Wars Saga

I agree that SM offers viewers a platform to be louder and angrier, and the fact that filmmakers are also on SM has created a toxic sense of entitlement. But I don’t think the OT is treated without fault. It’s just discussions about plot holes exist is small bubbles every few years. The big Jabba Heist in Jedi, for example, was picked apart a few years ago. Teddy bears taking down the Empire is an extreme sore spot. The timeline of The Empire Strikes Back has thesis dedicated to it. They made a whole movie to defend the weakness on the Death Star. These movies have been picked apart for decades, and now there’s new fodder to pick apart all over again.
  10. I’d be surprised if that movie ever gets released, since it’s been delayed two years and called “unreleasable” by the studio. Amazing, when it’s got two of the biggest rising stars.
  11. Don’t we see Dooku use the lightening bolts in Episode II? I thought it was supposed to be a harnessing of the dark side trait, although we never see Vader or Ren (or even Maul) use it.
  12. Watching today’s marathon of episodes, and I always love the contrast of the Canadian episodes when they’re like “man, a second bedroom would be nice, but I guess we can sacrifice it so we can have one full bathroom.”
  13. Rey didn’t take the name Skywalker because of Ben. She took it because of Luke and Leia’s training and her intention to carry on their legacy.
  14. At my in-laws it takes 2 hours for 6 adults to open 3 to 4 presents each. I’m all for the chaos. The Duggar’s should label the presents before they wrap them though, so they don’t have to rip them from kids’ hands the second they open them.
  15. And they 100% repaired Kylo Ren’s mask so they’d be able to sell new toys, now with cool red stitching.
  16. This bothers me so much. I think according to supplemental reading material, the entire New Republic fleet was destroyed with Hosnian Prime, but shouldn’t have enraged local governments sent all of their ships and militias to the Resistance cause? The fact that NOBODY shows up in TLJ is ridiculous.
  17. He could put his Solo genes to use and live a life on the run while atoning his sins across the galaxy. Let’s face it, the Resistance was even less organized than the Rebellion, and their one leader with any understanding of setting up and maintaining a government died. The Second Order is all but imminent.
  18. I thought the movie was fine, so long as you didn’t think too hard about it. I feel like it will fall apart with additional rewatches, which is a bummer because tying together new story threads is one of my favorite things from the other movies. I thought Williams’ score was beautiful, and the chase scenes were fun. The space battles were pretty lackluster (same with TFA) they need to take some notes from Rogue One. My two biggest gripes were burying Anakin’s and Leia’s lightsabers on Tatooine, because Anakin hated that place and it meant nothing to Leia. I guess they were buried with Shmi, who was the founder of the bloodline, so that’s kind of nice. It would have made the most sense to bury Luke’s lightsaber there, since it’s when his story began, but JJ doesn’t give a shit about the green saber. Second, if you’re going to take the Skywalker name, you get the Skywalker droid. I get that BB8 is the star of this trilogy, but R2D2 has been so loyal to that family. He deserved to look at that binary sunset as the saga came to a close. My heart hurts for Chewie. He lost the most this trilogy. I’m glad he’s found a new ragtag gang to protect the galaxy with.
  19. I could not disagree more with this statement. There are plenty of details that don’t need to be filled in. Palpetine having a child, for example. It’s been alluded that he created Anakin (and possibly confirmed in other media that I didn’t read.) Him having unnamed illegitimate children over the years I’m fine with. But the guy died on screen and then blew up, and there has been no indication nor whisper that he was still around. And suddenly he has the firepower on par with the First Order who also has inexplicable resources. They had 2 movies to set up his return and they didn’t. That’s bad writing plain and simple. The OT had plot twists that Lucas kept pulling out of his ass too, but at least they took 30 seconds to have Obi Wan exposit them, so we could all be on the same page and move on with things.
  20. I watched this OnDemand, and am wondering, did the controversial lesbian Zola commercial air several times during the episode when it aired? Or did they only tack it on the OnDemand version. It played during pretty much every break, and I was shocked, but delighted.
