  1. Because it’s a televised work event. The actors are the voting body and the winners, so they’re hosting the event too.
  2. Joaquin has come a long way since the Globes. Renee seems to be getting worse.
  3. It appears they take lots of pictures on one day and then post them sporadically over several months. Also, don’t most normal people wear the same clothes more than once? Even celebrities? My LO is Felicity’s age and probably has enough clothes to rotate through over 2 weeks before repeating again.
  4. Ken was technically in first though, with his current score added to the first came score, so for him, it didn't matter what James bet, he was just betting that James would get it wrong. I don't really buy that strategy for this level of competition though. I still feel like, based on his level of play through the first 4 games, he knew he had the tournament in the bag and he wanted to play another game.
  5. I think he holds the top 16 single day earning records. The record was previously $77,000 and he nearly doubled it. I think he also hit the game around the time that Alex got sick, and Alex seemed to really be excited about James' run.
  6. That joke about his score was harsh! (I laughed) And he's also been pretty brutal with him on Twitter. Brad has just recently started swinging back. I can tell that James and Ken like each other and the Ken and Brad like each other, but I'm not quite sure whether the "gentle ribbing" between James and Brad is playful, or if they actually dislike each other.
  7. Did Ken bet 0 on the last round because he wanted to play another game? It felt like he was throwing it on purpose, and then Jame said "hold my beer." I'm bummed that it's over, but Ken played a great set of games and definitely deserved it! I was on the edge of my seat when Brad found the Daily Double. Gah! He was so off his game this tourney, which is surprising, since he was doing pretty well during the Team Tournament.
  8. To be fair, the most consistent nominations for best supporting actress this season have been Laura Dern, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lopez, and Scarlett Johansson. I think it's easy to overlook her nomination though, since she's mostly been campaigning for Best Actress.
  9. Bummer that Taron Egerton missed the best actor nom, but I'm delighted that Antonio Banderas made the cut. Based on nominations in major categories, I'd say that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has the edge over Parasite for Best Picture, but I think the guild awards will tighten up the race. 1917 still feels like a dark horse, even though it's checking a lot of boxes, and has picked up some major awards. I guess now that it's hit wide release it may actually start building momentum. It's also a shame for J.Lo. It would have been nice to see an original film like Hustlers be recognized by the Academy. I think Florence Pugh deserved her nom, for breathing life into one of the least likeable characters in literature (Jo and Laurie 4 eva!) and even though Scarlett has picked up supporting nominations for everything but the Globes, her nomination here feels tacked on. Adding link to Oscar nominees...
  10. It looks like Renee Zelwegger is training harder for awards season than some Marvel actors do for their movies. She looks jacked.
  11. It’s in bad taste, but while Ted Danson was listing off all the things Kristen Bell has leant her voice to, I kept waiting for them to say Gossip Girl.
  12. I also noticed he was sipping water. I mean I guess announcing two winners at once saves, like 20 seconds for the actors to walk on stage, but it is such a cluster fuck.
  13. I thought it was interesting that this show was promoted as Black Swan on ice, and ended up being Cutting Edge with more sex. Obviously there is story leftover for the journey to Nationals and International competition, but I agree with others that they really exhausted a lot of potential story in the first season. I found it pretty satisfying, so I’m fine if this is a one and done series. I did really like it though, even though it had a lot of short comings (the acting wasn’t that great, the skating was pretty lame, the writing was lots and lots of exposition...)
  14. I agree that campaigning is silly and takes away from the integrity of the award. The film should stand on its own without other influence. Who cares if someone was gracious at your luncheon? And yes, big industry names (Harvey Weinstein being the most obvious example) have dictated winners with very little regard as to who actually deserves it. I agree that the voting base needs to be shaken up, so the awards don’t continue to fall into the rut of picking the same formulaic films every year (period biopic, war drama, industry love letter...)
  15. Agreed, Margot has been a consistent lock in supporting this season for Bombshell with Scarlett Johansson acting as a possible foiler (for her getting a nom, not for winning.) I wonder if Scarlett will add more focus to her Jojo Rabbit campaign, since she's picked up a SAG and BAFTA nom, and Renee Zellweger is going to be really hard to beat (she's checked off pretty much all of the Academy's favorite boxes: playing real-life person, singing!, and an industry film.) I think Scarlett would be the biggest competition to Laura Dern (which is ironic since Laura Dern's role is supporting Scarlett in Marriage Story) but she could get a similar "Well she was really good in two movies, just not the right movie..." like Kate Winslet a decade ago.
  16. It looks like labor was far more intense for him than Abbie (who looks great!)
  17. I think he could very possibly win a match if he answers his Daily Doubles correctly. Although, the first match seemed to have shaken him up a bit, and he wasn't on top of the buzzer as much in the second match. I think if he hits one Daily Double at the right time, and actually gets it right, he'd get the momentum to take at least one win. Brad would 100% make the best host out of the 3. He's well spoken and charismatic, and seems to have the best "people" skills out of the three. Ken would be my runner up, because he has a decent sense of humor and is friendly enough. No way could James pull off being host though. He's got this flat robotic mannerism about him (even though he can be quite funny!) they'd be better off having Watson host.
  18. Hey now, the adult is drinking out of a ceramic mug and not a Styrofoam or plastic cup! Also, I'm completely guilty of resorting to disposable ware when I've got a lot of people over. I've already done enough dishes from meal prep and serving. I don't need a sink full of dirty dishes to sort into the dishwasher after we've all eaten.
  19. Wow, you're strict! I would at least give myself the option to buzz in! If I played your way, I'd be in the red almost every game.
  20. We call this the "Daily Triple" where you can triple your score if your get it right without seeing the clue, but we also make up completely arbitrary scores at this point, instead of keeping track of right answers.
  21. That’s because they were actually getting questions wrong tonight. Also, so many clip package categories, which drives the game to a complete halt! I think they’re more strict in syndication. The rules change after 8PM, and get progressively more relaxed every hour after that. I think the context was important too. They made it clear they meant “cool” and not derogatory slang against woman.
  22. True, there’s pneumococcal at 2 months that could possibly help protect against contracting some strains of bacterial meningitis and other bacterial infections. It’s the first of 4 rounds over a 15 months period, so they wouldn’t be fully protected yet.
  23. A 3 month old would not have the meningitis vaccine yet. I don’t think it’s given until you’re middle school age.
