  1. I’m guessing they’ve had Kirk Douglas’s in Memorium segment on standby for a few years now. He was 103!!!
  2. Agreed. Sometimes toddlers only want one parent and there’s no appeasing them otherwise. Baby wearing is a good way to give them what they need while still getting work done. We use this type of carrier around the house and for short day trips to the aquarium or zoo. We’ve got a structured carrier with a metal frame for hiking. This one doesn’t distribute weight as well and aren’t super breathable, so you both get very sweaty after too much time.
  3. With film crew in tow because Jill was in that episode.
  4. These sketches are very kind, and I hope they bring the recipients comfort, but in both drawings it looks like Jesus is Joy’s and Vanessa’s secret side piece.
  5. Izzy is using an open cup. It's considered a toddler cup because it's got a suction foot at the bottom to make it harder to knock over. ETA: oops, I just noticed the cup that's off to the side at Chick fil a, and yes, he's way too old for one of those.

    The NBA

The LA County officials couldn’t even confirm Kobe’s death as of yesterday evening. How were the other victims supposed to be reported? Their next of kin should be the first to know. Not strangers on the internet. I’m sure the names will be released in the coming days, as is the case with most reported tragedies that don’t have a famous person on board.
  7. To be fair they didn’t know what would be said in the press conference. This story today was huge, and I’m sure they were kicking themselves that the press conference was delayed to the point that it aligned with the two star skaters, but there was no way they were going to skip coverage of what will be the biggest story of the week for afternoon figure skating.
  8. Yeah. I’m really not sure he deserved the GOE he got on all his wonky landings. He still would have easily won without those points, so I don’t understand why they feel the need to inflate his score.
  9. Brits love awarding other Brits, so I’d be shocked if Mendes misses the BAFTA. I’d say 1917 had Best Picture in the bag at this point too, but the weighted ballot might give Parasite a fighting chance.
  10. Terry announced a little before 5 that figure skating coverage would switch to NBC SN during the press conference. Not that that information helps anyone now...
  11. Welp, a day later and Mariah’s FS still left me sobbing. Oh man, Meryl no. Just no. Charlie looked like Clark Kent.
  12. Why did Nathan Chen go so early? Or is the Free Skate order random draw.
  13. I get that figure skating is a jumping sport right now, and Alyssa Lui is the best chance for competing with the Russians, but damn, Mariah Bell’s free skate is the reason I find this sport so compelling. She had the entire arena wrapped around her finger. Such an amazing moment.
  14. Somebody used it in the short, can’t remember if it was Ladies or Pairs, so maybe it’s getting a lot of play this season and Johnny is already over it. I like the cover though.
  15. It makes me nervous when someone with mental health issues fantasizes about a plane going down. Her free skate was beautiful, even though she didn’t hit all of her jumps.
  16. That interview was hard to watch. I think she's been in a skating bubble with less competitive skaters, and it may have given her confidence that she could compete against the top ranked skaters again, and this was kind of a wake up call that she wasn't quite there yet. I hope she has the support system she needs to stay on the positive road to recovery, and doesn't let her skate last night get to her too much. It was a huge step back into the spotlight! Way to go Gracie! I feel so bad for Mariah Bell, she was so close to a clean performance!
  17. Are nylons much of a thing anymore? I'm a few years older than Jinger and haven't bought panty hose since elementary school for music concerts. I work in a fairly casual environment though where jeans are the norm, so I may be out of touch on these types of things, but I thought bare legs were pretty much standard now unless you were accessorizing with dark tights or leggings.
  18. Honestly, I don’t mind if every member of the academy watches every eligible movie from that year before nominating films. If the academy were actually diverse, majority of eligible films would have an audience represented by the academy. It sounds like many academy members can’t be bothered to watch all of the nominated films before voting for a winner, which is ridiculous. If you want to maintain the integrity of your awards, abstain from voting in categories you haven’t watched all the films for instead of complaining about having to watch so many movies! This is why I’m starting to only respect the Critic’s Choice Awards. At least they watch the films instead of bitching about who didn’t smile enough at their luncheon.
  19. It generally seems like these houses are the worst on the block, because usually it’s hard for them to find something better with their higher price range. I feel like they also give the lowest end of the appraisal at the beginning and then highest end at the end, because yeah, unless you’re adding beds, baths, and above grade square footage, you’re not getting your money back. I guess the season is already over and we’re switching to Home Town?
  20. I agree, because it's the film's only nomination (other than hair and makeup), and that can sometimes ostracize a win from a major category. However, because she's portraying Judy Garland, I think that will appeal to older voters who may have turned up their nose at watching a film only nominated for two awards. Plus, who really is the alternative? Scarlett Johansson, because they should probably give her at least one for making two good films last year?
  21. My daughter is about Felicity's age, and we usually order her something off the kid's menu or an appetizer that's easier for her to eat. The places we eat at, the kid's menu is a normal entree that has a much smaller portion size. Otherwise we were sharing half our plate with her (well half of my plate and maybe a bite or two off Dad's...) We only eat out once a month or so, because being strapped into a high chair and then having to wait 15-20 minutes to eat, and then an additional 30 minutes to leave, is no toddler's idea of a good time. I can't imagine Felicity doing that daily and not having any food to play with.
  22. The rest of the Guild awards will be really interesting. 1917 already has PGA and is heavily favorited for Best Cinematography. The other two categories that heavily predict best picture are director and screenplay and 1917 and Parasite have nods in both. I have a gut feeling that they’ll give director to Sam Mendes and picture to Parasite, but I’m also pretty sure most voters will feel that giving best foreign language to Parasite will be enough.
