  1. He never did a thing for me in the '80s and '90s, but when I tuned back in for the final episodes, I was stunned by how attractive he'd become.
  2. I only saw the Anderson Cooper one, but I'm not surprised to hear it was a category-wide problem; the "identify this highlighted country" form of clue has been rampant in recent years.
  3. Let me get this straight: Even though the name of Anderson Cooper's ancestor was basically Dutch Van den Dutch, they took the additional step of highlighting The Netherlands on the map?
  4. I just got caught up on the episodes from this week, and I liked the mocking tone of the Michael Che sendoff, especially when Jason called him Wyatt. Except I was enjoying the casual racism bit and wanted it to continue. The "Threatflix" segment on the ISIS video was rather ho-hum, but I did like Jon's comment, "You can always get a job creating graphics for CNN." I loved the NFL segment, from the alliterative descriptions of the players to the fucked-up nature of needing an "in-house special victims unit" to the "beer pressure" joke I saw coming a mile away yet still laughed at when it got here to the takedown of Hannity's special brand of spiteful ignorance to the proposed Madden cover of Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend. The only thing better this week was the segment on Lindsay Graham's reputation for even-keeled understatement. That could be a weekly bit and I'd never get sick of it.
  5. I'm in love with the segment on the Science, Space and Technology committee hearing. The willful ignorance has reached a point where all I can do in response is sputter, "Are you fucking kidding me?" and "I don't even know what to do with that," so to see Jon go off with the same exact words is ridiculously comforting. I will find a way to work "pushing a million pounds of idiot up a mountain" into my vernacular.
  6. I like Harlow in her atypical role in Wife vs. Secretary; with her typical roles, a little goes a long way for me -- the foursome in Libeled Lady makes for the perfect amount of screen time. But Dinner at Eight is thoroughly entertaining. I think that's the Harlow litmus test; if you don't enjoy her in that, you'll just never like her. (Plus, you get Marie Dressler as a bonus.)
  7. Given my viewing habits, there are likely many such episodes I haven't seen. But the ones I have, I almost always enjoy. It's one of those rare "Oh, here we go again ... Hey, cool, here we go again!" tropes.
  8. I think it helps to understand the overriding rule here is "Don't be a dick," rather than there being a series of specific rules; you may screw something up, but unless you're trying to be rude, it's easy to correct. When deciding if a thread exists for a thought you'd like to express, go by the title - ignoring what it may have meant at TWoP - and the thread's introductory post and either post in the most-appropriate one of the existing threads or create a new one, understanding that if you create a thread for something best contained within an existing thread/forum you'll simply be directed to that spot.
  9. I'm always bemused by the effusive praise for Connie Britton. I've only seen her in Spin City and The West Wing, so maybe she up and turned spectacular in the years since, but in both those shows I found her unremarkable.
  10. I'd be amazed if you only saw her in one other film; she worked a lot from the '30s through the '60s. In her younger days, she was often the best friend. (And, of course, she later delighted as Verbena in The Parent Trap.)
  11. The imaginary third syllable that annoys me most is realtor being pronounced real-a-tor. It's one of the reasons I had to cut back on my house hunting shows.
  12. Oh, yes. In fact, my strongest memory of her is "I'm Still Here" from the Follies revival.
  13. Minors in California have quite strong privacy protections when it comes to medical care. You've received biopsy results in an hour? Lucky! I've always had to stress out for a day or two. This is the medical appointment for which Cindy got all gussied up, right?
  14. Oh, yes it is - a Hass or Fuerte halved, with a little salt and pepper or just plain, is a staple snack in my house.
  15. No, it's akin to a cancer drug causing additional tumors, that likely wouldn't have developed if not for the drug. The potential side effect in some of those anti-depressants isn't failing to curb suicidal thoughts that already exist, it's causing suicidal thoughts.
  16. I've never seen any of the season 8 or 9 episodes in their entirety (except maybe the series finale), so I'll sit this one out and wait for the all-stars round. X-Cops as number two is my head-scratcher for this round, but maybe I was just in an extraordinarily bad mood when I watched it. Although I remember the two colleagues I always had water cooler XF discussions with thinking it was stupid, too. At any rate, playing this game made it crystal clear why season seven was the year I just threw in the towel completely rather than hanging on to a show I once loved.
  17. Season 6: The top three are my personal top three, so that's nice, but they're a three-way tie for first in my book. How can I choose?! I might as well draw titles out of a hat. Let me go with ... Field Trip Season 7: The Goldberg Variation Je Souhaite is my second place, but X-Cops would be down at the bottom of the list. I don't know what my third episode would be; I really only like those two from this season. Probably Requiem.
  18. Poor Peter Coyote (well, had he not brought it on himself). I had lunch yesterday with a group of friends and it turned out all of us were watching the Roosevelts documentary ... it also turned out all of us are fans of Coyote, especially his voice, but were distracted by that mispronunciation. I'll be ridiculously pleased by the correction in tonight's offering.
  19. Now, that would be a more effective advertising campaign than a parade of children too old to be shitting anywhere other than in the toilet. "For life's bleachable moments"? These families don't need bleach, they need doctors.

  21. Maybe the fact TCM just did that very theme (with 13) a few months ago tips it toward pathetic? I love spotting the themes TCM comes up with, especially when they're not recognizable by the title or cast (e.g. films all set in the same city, films in which the main character is a certain profession).
  22. I barely know him, having only talked with him a few times at various functions of our mutual friend's, but he seems like a decent guy. I first met him while the show was airing, and he spoke positively of it.
  23. That's how I was feeling about Arcadia; I think it's a parade of stereotypes that doesn't reach the level of parody and is thus just ridiculous. (I don't much care for Hollywood AD, either, mind you.) S6: Dreamland II Tithonus (ouch, but you're number four on my list, so it's time) S7: Millennium X-Cops (I've held off voting for this one because I've never rewatched it and others seem to love it, so perhaps it's not as utterly stupid as I recall it being, but I'm through with the benefit of the doubt)
  24. Lilly's original partner on Cold Case had diabetes, but they wrote him out after fewer than half a dozen episodes - and wrote diabetes as the reason why he left the squad (I don't remember the specifics, though).
