Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Words's topic in Late Night With Seth Meyers
Always! :) Some funny jokes about birthday greetings on Hillary's Facebook wall. His Closer Look segment was about the fractures in the Republican party spurred by Trump. Ina Garten was a guest and it's always fun for Seth to cook. -
Nice of JWow and Kendra to confirm that nope, neither one bothered to try cooking at home after the show.

Comic at the far right lectern did not look happy to be scolded about women's periods.

TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
Come on, Trevor. In the Obamacare segment, you don't even mention that "federal subsidies will also rise, meaning that few people are likely to have to pay the full cost after the rate increases to get insurance coverage." Desi's poll segment was annoying. -
I got partway through this episode and nodded off, so yeah. I simply don't like Eldon the tormented sap or his poor decision-making, is what it's boiling down to for me. And now he's got some kind of severe mental illness in his past that I'm going to need to hand-wave away?

S15.E08: Welcome to the Urban Jungle
zxy556575 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Project Runway
When they showed Dexter's sketch I thought, "Bless his heart. That boy cannot draw at all." Then the jacket looked exactly like that. If, as Zac suggested, that look has been all over the runway, I might have to despair of fashion altogether. I don't, how you say, watch the show these days so much as skim until the runway. I mostly live for the live model review, with all the exclamations and fabric picking and tutting and sniffing. Sometimes literal sniffing. I'd take an hour of that along with the judges' discussions, especially when they disagree. Loved @Sarah D. Bunting's description in the article of Laurence's "diaper-crotch fantasia." I wonder if any of the judges watch the episodes lo these many months later and ashamedly shake their heads. I try to grant them leeway for some of the garments or fabrics looking worse/shabbier in person, but I refuse to believe that SHIT-FILLED CROTCH LOOKED BETTER. -
The Great Indoors - General Discussion

Joel was the only character I liked but not enough to overcome my distaste for the others. Sure, they were exaggeratedly stereotypical millennials for laughs, except I didn't. -
Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
zxy556575 replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
I'm not optimistic at all (because ratings are good, thank you and goodbye), but I deeply HOPE that the non-Fox news networks will do some soul-searching about their political coverage after this shitstain of a year. Is it possible, please, to hire responsible, experienced, journalists who are able to keep their personal views to themselves and who discuss/dissect the candidates and their platforms? Instead of handing over every show to outside commentators? There's a place for pundits and opinion-based political panels, but confine them to their own specific shows. ALL the partisan puppets/surrogates of either major party add nothing AND AREN'T NEWS because they're unable to discuss. They merely spout. -
His execrable spawn! He's already floated the idea of making them cabinet members. Oy. In passing, I kind of disagree with the accepted characterization of HRC as "ambitious".* To me, pure ambition connotes someone who is is driven to achieve for personal success. I certainly know HRC to be extraordinarily determined in her goals, but from her Wellesley commencement speech on, I believe her drive is for the common good, not for individual wealth or recognition or self-aggrandizement. (Not to belabor, but as expected, diametrically opposed to Trump's own drive.) * I also resent the inference from her detractors that ambition by itself is a bad thing.

I'm still on board but the show doesn't inspire a lot of exited chatter. To say the least. It looks like the focus is going to be on the Travelers' quest to fix the future. I'm kind of more interested to see how they cope with their pretend lives -- kids, family, jobs but it's not that kind of show. In reality, I don't think it would take but a couple of days before spouses or close friends would start reaching for the psychiatric help line.

Frankly, I just wait and hope that @sjohnson will post something explanatory. ;)

Costume Memories: Halloween, Masquerades, Conventions Or Dress-Up
zxy556575 replied to tribeca's topic in Everything Else
I know very little about football, but ... acknowledged! My rare adult costumes have always been "whatever's in the house" and this wasn't super creative or anything, but I once wore an outfit that consisted of baggy sweats, bathrobe and slippers, hair in curlers, a green mud mask all over my face, and a small throw pillow tied around my stomach. If that wasn't clear, I added a sign around my neck: "Every man's nightmare." The only funny part was that other party goers actually thought I was pregnant and 2 or 3 of them seriously frowned at me because I was drinking. I took to shifting the pillow widely side to side and up and down, then untied my robe to remove it. See?! -
Thank you from the rest of the world, @ParadoxLost! I usually finish paying, then shop again to pick up what I forgot. Makes it more interesting to walk directly from checkout back into the store and then go through the cashier line with bagged items. I always imagine I'm giving the store security staff and cameras a nice workout.

Luke and Laura's wedding. If only because I'd never watched a minute of that show and still heard all about it.

Same thing with UK or Australian actors doing an American accent. THEY'RE FINE. Maybe it's my ear, but I just don't hear the frequent "slips" and "nerves" that others point out. In fact, I'm often quite surprised when an actor is on a talk show and uses his/her native British accent -- I never realized! I do notice Canadian actors who inadvertently let loose their version of "ou" once in a while. Edited to add: The above applies to "standard" English. Actors of any nationality who attempt specific regional American accents mess up more frequently than not.

Are viewers really clamoring for Will and Grace to come back? Same cast, same story.

This is the first time it's even occurred to me to look at their websites. Peck: Basic site with minimal info and a writer who really loves commas. Ten artists, two women. If Peck does any tattoos that aren't American Traditional, he doesn't include them much in his Instagram gallery. He liked these crooked "Fun lil birdies" enough to Instagram them. Nunez: Okay looking website. Includes a tab for artwork other than tattoos but with minimal content. The most recent post in the "News" section is from December 2015. Only four artists featured, all men. Chris has a whopping three tattoos in his gallery. The other three artists only show a handful as well. I guess I'm to assume their reputations proceed them?

Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
zxy556575 replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
Why the hell would Trump have a star on the Walk of Fame, anyway? Because of The Apprentice? Naw. Those things are bought and paid for, but his star still seems to violate their own rules: " ... star candidates have to be famous for at least five years, and have, as Di Bona puts it, “unchallengeable” expertise in what the Chamber deems a core entertainment category—television, movies, radio, live theatre and music. Reality and Internet stars are notably excluded." "All star applications carry a $30,000 sponsorship fee." -
Some people seem to be watching the new Sarah Jessica Parker show Divorce not because it's good or they like it but because it's on HBO.

Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion

I'm not Shorty but it's m' birthday and the show was kind enough to provide another segment of Jokes Seth Can't Tell. Sw-eet! I love when the audience groans (although I joined them on the vampire lesbian menstruation). And of course the last joke that Seth always tries and fails. -
Politifact's truthfulness scorecards for some full-time Democrats and one drop-in: Nancy Pelosi at 24% false and 10% pants on fire Cory Booker at 20% false and 0% pants on fire Joe Biden at 13% false and 4% pants on fire Obama at 12% false and 2% pants on fire Sanders at 12% false and 0% pants on fire HRC at 10% false and 2% pants on fire Kaine at 6% false and 0% pants on fire Elizabeth Warren at 0% false and 0% pants on fire Their Pants On Fire tab has 52 pages with the details of each lie. The Obamameter shows 45% of promises kept and 22% broken. I genuinely don't see anything HRC has said or done that could convince so many people she's a world class liar, or even to mistrust her.

Ha! That's true but I did appreciate that Voyager had a lot more crew rebellion and unease than any of the other Treks. I think all the major players had disagreements with or shouted at Janeway at some point. That always felt more realistic to me than someone like Picard always being boringly right.

The Real O'Neals - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Real O'Neals
Isn't Newsies a really cheesy-bad movie? I'm not gonna watch it to find out, but I thought Kenny's love for it was adorable, and that Eileen knew that was the one thing that would get him out of his Beyonce costume. (Which I thought he rocked.) Poor Eileen and her hors d'oeuvres of whole cucumbers, mini hot dogs and rocket shaped ice pops. -
You know how movie actors are contractually required to go out and stump for their films? I wonder if TV actors have clauses that obligate them to give these innumerable interviews to every fly by night podcast or website that gets a hold of their agents' email addresses.
