Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
zxy556575 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
There's a great mobile vet in my area. I always have my fingers crossed that her practice is doing well because I'd hate to lose her. My cat is fearful of the carrier, the car ride, the waiting room and strangers. She's one of those who won't even tolerate being held. Pricing peeve: A book I'm buying is the same $9.99 price for hardcover, paperback and Kindle. You don't have to print anything for Kindle! There are technology costs to delivery electronically but I refuse to believe they're as much as paper, binding, ink, and printing press staff. Traditional publishers are struggling due to the steep decline of books and magazines, and I assume authors make less for the cheaper electronic downloads, but I still think a Kindle edition of any book should be around half the price of the hardcover. Dammit. -
Season One Talk: FFwSB

What I wouldn't give for one of those interviewers to have replied to Trump's All Quiet on the Western Front non-answer: "What's that book about? I'm not familiar with it." And watch him squirm. The thing is basically an anti-war novel which I'm sure Trump doesn't know. -
This link about HRC's favorite books was posted by @trow125 in the Full Frontal topic. It's a delightful and reassuring article from June 2014 that, to me, reinforces again how normal HRC is. She no doubt had time to prepare her answers but I'm sure she really does read those books and authors. Re people keeping quiet about their support for HRC -- it's Nixon's silent majority* all over again, only now they're silent out of fear. * For those who may be too young or don't remember, Nixon's references was to, as he saw it, the vast majority of conservative middle Americans who were being overshadowed in the media by the more vocal, liberal minority.

I think half the viewers of Elementary are there only because of the clothes! If you took a plier to my toenails immediately after an episode, I still could not tell you anything about what Lucy Liu wore.

Faux Life: Things That Happen On TV But Not In Reality

TV sex always results in simultaneous climaxes. -
Another thing some of the artists (Nikki) don't seem to take into consideration while going out of their way to make enemies is that those people will be helping judge the finale. They hold grudges, y'all. There have been a couple other artists over the seasons who refused to do outlines; I'm starting to think it's because they can't, on a technical level. The judges constantly slam people for their outlines: shaky, too thin, too thick, incomplete.

It seemed bogus that Peck and Nunez were judging the palm tattoos by what they'd look like in the future. Absolutely! No question! They do that a lot when they claim that certain tattoos will fade or bleed or whatever, but this time it seemed particularly egregious because that was their main criteria. Crystal ball judging!

Speaking of the budget, let's add the estimated $30M the government/Republicans have spent "investigating" Hillary, and that's only Benghazi and emails. In 1999, CNN estimated that Ken Starr's various probes cost $80M. Fiscal conservatives, my ass.

If I was a police officer or in any way associated with the penal system in the U.K., I'd be pretty pissed at the slapdash way they've been depicted here. I didn't watch the X-Files and had no feelings about Anderson one way or the other, but after this I think I'll avoid anything she's in. Ambien washed down with whiskey is right.

Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
zxy556575 replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
I've brought it up to several Democratic friends who flat out didn't believe me. "Please. That has to be a campaign lie." Had to forward them the copies of the filing. I still fault the media for not reporting it, but I have no doubt that Trump will choose a monetary settlement and non-disclosure clause. -
I was a little surprised that some of the canvases with lower back tattoos were men. I haven't conducted a survey or anything, but don't think that's a real popular spot for guys. A couple of them had some fatty tissue, which I imagine is a little more difficult to tattoo, just for the undulations. Ryan's comment to the client that none of the tattooists themselves had palm tattoos was clever. Nobody could try to talk the canvases into a different location this time, but it was a good way to manage expectations.

I invite you to visit my retirement town to view an array of recently purchased and completely un-ironic holiday themed garments. ;) -
It was amusing that the guest judge called out the reworked tattoo as being the best solution for the client. Like anyone on the show ever takes that into consideration. (Except Peck this one time because, teams.)

The show's gotten some generally positive reviews: Hollywood Reporter: TBS' new show is a surprisingly funny, smart, quirky and lovable comedy about an alien abduction support group. AV Club: People Of Earth leaves a strong impression after its first two episodes. The show has a solid amount of humor, but ultimately, comedy is a background tool for a show that deals with topics like trauma, empathy, and trust. Indie Wire: Wyatt Cenac Leads Beautifully Human Comedy About Aliens NY Times: The Alien Abductees of ‘People of Earth’ Keep the Humor Grounded. Slight but appealing.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk

Mel Gibson, really? That's so gross I actually wrote to the show to complain. It takes a lot to get me off my complacent, non-confrontational ass. Completely disgusted. -
Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
zxy556575 replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
There were at least a couple of Trump supporters but they got shouted down pretty quickly. For whatever reason, posters here do seem to lean left, so it's probably not worth the trouble for conservatives to go against the tide. HuffPo had an article about an erotic novel from 2012 that was announced with Trump's name as author but was changed prior to publication. Apparently, for once, he reconsidered his self-promoting actions. Wonder if the ghostwriter still had to give Trump any royalties. -

TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I liked the post-Trump episode but it was also soothing to have everything back to normal. A couple of the Weiner jokes might have been funny if I retained even the least ability to smile about the election any more. During the interview, Trevor needed to stop being such a git about the U.S. speaking to its adversaries. If he thought he was being funny, it went on too long. The diplomatic corps is not a 7th grade playground. Or it isn't currently. It would quickly become so under Trump. -
Oh, Sketchy. Couldn't hack being criticized even a little. After 8 seasons, the egos on these people continue to surprise me. I did enjoy Nunez pretty much pleading with him not to leave. "You could win! It could be you! You have a real shot!" Also, pretty bold statements if anyone is into reality show judging conspiracy theories. There probably aren't many viewers who thought Boneface was killing it, but I would have preferred Nikki to go first, just on a personal level. Didn't like that she got the satisfaction of outlasting him after being such a pill. I'm not sure if I miss the canvas jury or not. The deliberations were often painful but I did like them occasionally upsetting the judges' applecart.

The Telegraph's recap of the finale included this: "Spector was confirmed to be genuinely suffering amnesia and thus unable to recall the Belfast Strangler killings (though he had started to remember being shot and Gibson’s cry that the police were 'losing him')." I gotta say, that was not my takeaway at all. Did you guys think his amnesia was real? The Telegraph speculated that Spector being made aware that he was a killer was what spurred his suicide, basically out of shame and regret.

I thought "sexy" rabbi was part of the joke? Anyway, the show hasn't engendered this much discussion in a while. :)

Chris was the character Eleven from Stranger Things. She got nosebleeds when she used her telekinetic powers. I loved Moshe's costume but didn't get the cat-bread thing, either, so appreciate the explanation. The whole episode was pretty good. The cat bread guy wanting the red light to deliver him from the discomfort of the costume made me laugh.

There's an existing #TrumpRape hashtag but not that many tweets. Even after being chucked out by Trump, the supporter said he had no hard feelings. Still voting for the guy! -

Joe Biden: Vice President of the United States
zxy556575 replied to 33kaitykaity's topic in Current Events & Politics
Unpopular opinion, I guess, but I think Biden is a sleaze and have never understood what people see in him. He's overly handsy with women and comes off as avuncular only if you mean the sniggering, insincere type.
