  1. It's understandable. I don't normally watch the news and don't get a paper. My information sources have primarily been my home page news feed and email breaking news alerts. I've cancelled both of those. I intend to -- and hope I can -- hang in with Sam and Trevor and Seth and Stephen because that's practically the only way I'll hear anything now and I'd prefer to receive bad tidings from people who share my disgust. I assume my DVR history is tracked and wouldn't want ratings to suffer for Sam or the others because a lot of viewers don't have the stomach for it right now. In fact, I'll probably go online and watch the episodes there as well, just so Sam gets one more view counted. For whatever it's worth.
  2. Yeah, I had to turn that off after the first couple of minutes. I honestly felt like I might throw up.
  3. After listening to Hasan on the Politically Re-Active podcast and on last night's show -- have we been pronouncing his name wrong all this time? He, Kamau, and Hari all pronounced it with a strong accent on the first syllable.
  4. Me neither except I'm curious to see how Trevor (and others) handle it tonight. Black humor or full on despair? I couldn't even pretend to be sprightly if it was me. To be honest, I don't know if TV commiserating with the like-minded will help or hurt.
  5. I got through the first few minutes until it sunk in that this was clip show crap and deleted. No need for me to "get to know" people I can barely tolerate as it is. I choose to believe that the contestants are, for the most part, people who conform to standard social interactions in their daily work lives. They wouldn't have customers otherwise. But boy does this show bring out their belligerent asshole sides.
  6. All I'm gonna say about the election is that I went across the street to my hard-drinking sister's house at 7am to get some wine and she was out.
  7. For once I actually enjoyed the crawl on a TV show with the hashtag submissions. I wouldn't mind that being a regular feature; some of them are just as funny as anything the panelists come up with.
  8. Although Pfizer stock should be good. I know I'm going to ask for a Zoloft prescription.
  9. I was in full blackout mode until I woke up a short while ago. I turned on the TV and went right to my recording of TDS, so it was Trevor who delivered the news. His palpable anger and grief made it a tiny bit better, rather than hearing about it from some random TV anchor who had to pretend to be impartial. The thought crossed my mind that Trevor might actually choose to "go back to Africa."
  10. Thank you @Pollock. That made me cry but also feel strengthened.
  11. I don't remember if we discussed this, but I hope everyone took action to protect their assets. I moved my retirement and 401k to cash funds a couple of months ago. The stock market will be ... volatile for a while. I fear Trump's rabid inner circle more than I do him. Rudy Giuliani as Attorney General, Don and Eric as cabinet members, Brietbart in charge of the press ...
  12. This one is difficult to refute in short sentences, but be prepared for accusations of selling out the Clinton Foundation to foreign governments in exchange for favors and also somehow using it to "line her pockets."
  13. Regarding the possible spinoff, Sheldon went to college at 11, so it could be interesting to see how they'd portray his childhood. The show has never specified where he went -- did Mary accompany him to classes? Unless they make up a school, Texas A&M at Galveston would be about the only reasonable commuter option. Rice is about 50 miles. Anyway, it's fun to speculate. We'd finally get to meet his brother!
  14. I think that's why I'm losing interest. The show keeps insisting it's not the innocence project but they're picking cases based on whether or not the defendant is sympathetic or fits whatever changeable criteria they're following that week. It shouldn't be such an irritant for me but they make a big deal about "pitching cases" and whatnot such that it becomes a major plot point but still makes no sense.
  15. Thanks for sharing. The headline for the NY Times article is very clickbait-y. Here's the entire discussion about it: "I had people — you know, people who are Democrats, fans of the old show — saying things like, “Go back to Djibouti, we want Jon Stewart back.” I knew liberal hatred existed, but I didn’t think it would come to me. I had to quell that feeling that people have lost what is theirs."
  16. I was going to return a dress I ordered online; it fits okay but isn't all that flattering. The company didn't include a return label, which meant either going to Pack and Ship and paying twice as much or driving longer to wait in line at the post office. The dress was $45, so around $8 for postage plus the aggro of USPS. Sigh. I just kept it. Looking like a blueberry is fine. It's FINE!
  17. MC Ginger. Trevor consistently has the best mocking names for Trump.
  18. Ah, Hillary's possible career without Bill. Soothing bedtime thoughts. The newspaper sidebar headline for "Sad Man Dies of Syphilis" did make me snort. Pls. print.
  19. That's fine and all but I hope the focus of the story will remain the kids, not more adults.
  20. I've certainly lost any respect I may have had for Sarandon, but on the flip side, I tip my hat to Sarah Silverman who acted like a reasonable, sane adult after her first choice candidate lost.
  21. I'm impressed that so many are going to watch the election results! I'm a thoroughgoing coward and will leave the TV solidly off.
  22. Are you able to summarize at all for those who don't have Showtime? Do most of the analysts think Trump will lose or win?
  23. I grew up with this so it seemed normal but have never met anyone who didn't look askance -- peanut butter and mayonnaise (gotta be Miracle Whip!) sandwiches. I don't remember ever having pb and jelly. It's still my second-favorite toast topping, after guacamole.
  24. Throwback Sunday, I guess, with pot roast, garlic mashed potatoes, and peas. Milk of course. For better or worse, I still mostly eat the foods I grew up with in the American suburbs of the 50s and 60s.
