I liked this episode, partially because Alfre Woodard is so likable. But her Great Grandfather paying a poll tax had me crying a little. I do think no matter how much any African American intellectually knows their anscestors were slaves actually seeing them listed in an inventory is still a punch in the gut.

What's so strange is I watched Cheers (plus re-runs) and I never made the connection but the minute I saw his face on the internet I thought "Lord Marbury" then "Lord Flibberdeygibit" then, "poor Caprice". I am sure he would be happy to know Broadway is dimming for him.

Rollo doesn't look happy.

He's in the middle of getting Jed elected....Jed offers (knowing it will be declined) to connect with his staff. Josh's father also wouldn't want him to Josh got his love of politics somewhere. Leo is the brain, Jed is the heart.

Favorite: Lagertha. She is a very unique character on TV..she kicks ass and is smart, plus she's a wife and mother and manages to combine all of it. Runner up: Athelstan...cute as hell and intellectually curious. Least favorite: Porunn I just don't get the point of her and the post partum. I know that's a real problem but I don't think we need a "very special episode" of Vikings.

I have a "naming convention" for my pets but I would totally name a cat Athelstan. It has ocured to me that Rollo and Gisla or Gyda would be great names.

First off I don't know anyone who liked 50 Shades whose opinion counts to me, most people I know who attempted to read it said it was awful...not because of BDSM but because of the writing and the plot. The 50 Shades moment was a bit gratuitous but I think it was an attempt to show a more negative side of the French Culture (yes, they are more advanced but it isn't always a good thing)....Gisela is right the Vikings are brutes and that limited what they could accomplish...this show (to me) is about how the world was changing how a multitude of small fiefdoms was moving toward large kingdoms (and eventually democracies). Oddly Scandanavia turned from vicous raiders to peaceful democratic socialists. For all his drama Ragnar gets that the world is changing and he's trying to get his people in a better place to benefit from that. or it's foreshadowing for something involving one of the female characters for next year...

Can't disagree with any of this but I think this is going "Taming of the Shrew" or Kiss Me Gisela....he's going to loosen her up and be pragmatic (I don't think the show will let him rape her, regardless of what might have happened back then)....and she's going to make him embrace Christianity...

I now want Odo to "proposition" Lagertha....just for her reaction.

I think they are eligible...I watched a panel at the Emmy musuem with the cast (minus Travis)...they were lobbying hard to get their make-up and costume people nominated (it was actually really sweet...they turned every question around to how great their crew was).

Vikings were raiders not colonial powers, had everything gone really well I don't think the plan would have been to take over. Ragnar wasnted to see Paris like Athelstan and I doubt any Norsemen are going to mistake him for being Christian after he slit a Cardinal's thoat in a Cathedral. I also think Ragnar would say yes to the marriage to Gisela, Gisela is also beyond naive if she thought she got to wait around and marry whoever she wanted. Daddy apparently doesn't have any other heirs so she needs to produce a few and Rollo would be able to protect the throne with Gisela on it and hopefully father children closer to Granddad to keep it beyond that.

Since they condensed a couple of Paris raids into one here I don't see Ragnar and Rollo going toe to toe...with Rollo as the Duke of Normandy and his children ruling Paris Ragnar can count that as conquer and he can send his extra Vikings to Normandy to farm (if he thought Northumbria was nice...) besides this frees him up to deal with Eckbert and the settlement....Floki has to tell Lagertha in hopes of saving his own skin.

on the whole County Odo freak show....a prof in college once theorized that the french didn't have the same industrial revolution as the Brits because they had slower population growth in no small part because of interests in non procreative sex. So the French have a long history of being freaks.

King Eckbert has impacted how I watch Law and Order....on the weekend's I usually have it on in the background as I get stuff done, yesterday he (ADA Cutter) made a comment about "something spanking both ways" and I nearly spit out my breakfast. Just for good measure Siggy was on an episode last week...it took me most of the episode to figure out who she was.

Watched this before work this am....enough with the frickin covered bridge...this is turning into some weird snuff film called the Bridges of Saint Denis County. Was there no Norse word for reconnaissance or beating a dead horse or an Army travels on its stomach? Bjorn is comming into his own and Rollo oddly looks smaller in clothes.... I agree with other posters Ragnar playing a game and isn't dying...if he really thought he was dying he would have gone on the raid... also the Hirst isn't going to give up a snake pit death....I imagine a finale like the Tudors where he is visited by all his ghost's....or visions of what his sons accomplish.

I think the Lagetha/Kalf hookup was a little more than just hate sex. Let's remember she wanted him before he betrayed her. They are way more equals. Regardless of her position she has fewer options than a comparable man.

Could the dead who conquer Paris be Athelstan? Floki failed...could Athelstan be the bridge between the Vikings (Ragnar knows the lord's prayer, Rollo was baptised) and the French? Lots of us are waiting for Rollo to hook up with Princess Gisella....she seems to be devout (she might be attracted to Rollo but she's not going to jump into bed with him) and to have the last word on who she marries...at the very least Rollo is going to have to promise to let her raise the kids Catholic and since he would be better off staying in Paris as a king consort than going back to Kattegatt where he's playing Jan Brady to Ragnar's Marcia and then creepy uncle to an ascendant Bjorn he's going to be fine with it.

Let's be honest the French have a huge advantage with the garrison or fort or whatever you want to call. Odo strikes me as a middle management political appointee type (he wasn't getting his hands dirty). In comparison Rollo is very alpha male. Princess likes a true believer. Not that many on here don't understand.

I really don't want to sound like a 14 year old but there are so many jokes to be made about Rollo, his Princess and head.
