Ragnar and Aslaug actually act like several horrible married couples I know so that's getting weird. That kid isn't Ragnar's ...he's only throwing blonde babies. Just was Lagertha needs another dumbass guy who will only really value her for her ability to produce an heir. (I remember reading somewhere....that she had children with someone after Ragnar...)

I always liked Kwame but I think his downfall was his age...he is still so young. Age and guile has its advantages. Hopefully in a few years he can come back for all stars.

Both of my grandmother's were born on upper midwest farms....chicken was cheap protein to feed to hubby and the men who came in for lunch working the fields. Even a small farm could keep a decent sized flock of chickens for eggs and meat without the need for refrigeration. Frying was the best way to prep what might not be the most tender chicken. Like lots of traditional cooking it was a way to make the most of cheaper food, especially for a large group of people. I still wish I had my great grandmother's cast iron chicken fryer (and lefse wheel) her fried chicken was apparently legendary.

Chicken and Waffles is actually pretty old school, generally thought of as "soul food" but fried chicken for breakfast was very common in rural areas and was mentioned in the Little House book about her husband Alanzo.

Oddly near my office (not in the south) we have a cajun place across from a place with bowls/wraps that was similar to the winning idea. The cajun place is still there and usually busy....the wrap place (which was my favorite) is closed.

Our local food pantry has an "orphan shelf"...(there are limits on what people can take in a sopping trip but people can and don't take whatever they want from the orphan shelf) people donate some strange stuff. I have seen some stuff while sorting that I didn't know existed and couldn't imagine cooking with....they should use some of that stuff.

I normally don't go for "pretty but dim" but I think there is a producer to blame for this part of the episode...someone talked the restaurant into this...those drums belong to someone and most people don't let random people near expensive musical instuments.

I think people are applying modern expectations to Rollo and Floki and not Ragnar. If you are/were a practioner of the Norse religion then Floki isn't/wasn't wrong for killing Althelstan. Regardless of the circumstances of the death. While I am not discounting the jealousy but Floki is also driven by religion. Ragnar wants to expand his universe and move forward and away from the small binary world that makes Floki comfortable. While Rollo was wrong to massacre all those vikings for hints of disloyaty (per modern morals) ...why wouldn't he take King Weenie up on his offer? Land, title and a wife? We all imagine they start a line that ends in the current Queen of England. What was Ragnar really offering him? A chance to be Ragnar's minion? Ragnar wants to be more modern but his dreams of settlements seemed to have died in Wessex. He just wants treasure...and given the cost of raiding Paris I highly doubt it was worth it. Yes, the trojan casket was great but Rollo is on track to fathering an heir to the throne and no doubt defending it when his wife is sitting in it.

I have never heard of this so I goggled and this would have been brilliant. I was thinking of what my mom used to call Hobo Dinners.... Someone mentioned not having Viking restaurants....as a scandanavian I will tell you there is a reason (outside of Aquavit)...I joke I am pro-immigration for the food. I was expecting fish of some type.

I think the removal of Man-Bun created a different vibe with the chefs. I do think some of the celebrity judges are just big fans of the show. I actually like occasional judges who don't get misty over sweetbreads.

I was shocked he wanted Mason Jars....it's such a Pinterest/Say Yes to the Dress/Wedding cliche. Of course someone else pointed out he was using apple crates for seating.

I have clients in Louisville but I can't convince one to meet me there for lunch....Kentucky is also the home of the bourbon trail which is fabulous.

I think he went back on GGG and lost early...his Twitter feed had retweets about how he was robbed. Also when I saw him on Chopped he was going on about his film he was making and that's why he wanted the money. I think he does no share or play well with others. It's like in game theory...your reaction is different if you have limited versus finite "plays". I sometimes look at TC like a really long job interview and how they get along with others and take in comments is important.

Yelp (and other review sites) tend to toss out bad reviews and also reflect what's "hot" and not really what's good. In my town there is a hipster bar-b-que place that is marginal at best. The reviews are fawning (and most mention their LP collection....who cares if they still play vinyl). This is probably much, much worse in LA.

I imagine the other chefs pretty much turn off their ears with Phillip and just respond "yeah, yeah" but Phillip hears "yes, the judges must hate you" or "yes, your food is amazing"... I can't see any of the judges being dumb enough to say that they thought Tom and Padma anything. I don't think Phillip understands how grating he is to most people.

Just when I thought I couldn't dislike him more...he starts giving interviews.
