This makes me think of my HS history teacher who was never fond of the myth that people thought Columbus would sail off the edge of the world...even the dumbest sailor knew the world was round. Lots of religion is learned and about traditions and culture. I think Ragnar saw the limits of that and what the gods or God were. Some of these more modern elements are hard to swallow. I loved Ragnar and Eckbert's chat about Athelstan but I don't see two macho warrior kings discussing their love for another man. I say this as a member of Team Athelstan and someone who wanted Ragnar and Athelstan to hook up. I am mostly Scandanavian (so maybe I am biased)...while other people have stories about escaping famine or persecution I joke my Great-Grandmother forsaw the ubiquity of ABBA....so maybe the Vikings pre-empted possible British empire building?

While I couldn't watch the snake part...wouldn't only slightly poisoness snakes be worse than something really deadly? the latter would be a quick death... I think Lagetha really killed Aslaug to help Bjorn. If Aslaug was alive and confirmation came back that Ragnar was dead she could have made a case that one of her sons should rule Kattegatt. Lagetha can hand power to Bjorn and anyone still loyal to Ragnar should be happy too. The cliche is history is written by the victors but oddly not really here since the Vikings weren't literate history was written by some of the vanquished. I think it's interesting how people take "the English" side even in this show. Life back then was nasty, brutish and short. The Vikings were doing what they needed to do to survive (as were the English).

Horses mean something very different in America (for instance the French eat horse meat)...I was shocked but the real Vikings mentioned sacrificing horses.

I don't think it's "fair" that some people are judged on the flavor of heir decor but they don't take into account the flavor of the foundant.

Rewatching for the 4th or 5th time....but it's been awhile since I have seen "In the Shadow of 2 Gunman" and it nearly had me in tears. Which is silly.

Why isn't the Chicago Police Officer calling local cops? I have freinds who are married to firefighters and they go to fire stations whenever they travel...Lots of police officers I know have a second business and would support another officer.

Wasn't Baz involved in the robbery where the cop was killed? I think Smurf is manipulating Pope and his mental illness is a mitigating factor. I don't want any of these people to move in next door. But Baz has choices that Pope doesn't.

I think the big question for everyone is who is worse Baz or Pope? I think Pope's mental illness is a huge mitigating factor. Baz knows better...sure he's as crippled as all of them by a lousy childhood. The last couple of episode Baz has been much worse. So in the hierachy of Evil I vote Smurf, Baz, Female Cop, Pope. I think the teacher and Deran are more pathetic than evil. Craig and Nikki is pretty and dim. J is lost, maybe the male cop will adopt J and Lena? One of the many challenges facing law enforcement is they currently act as the largest provider of mental health services. They might just pump someone full of thorazine to make them easy to handle.

You can eat off her floors and given the overgrown toddlers that inhabitat her home that takes work. This makes letting Lena live (a horrible thing to type) a huge mistake....very few women would abandon their child, especially leaving said child with in-laws like this. Her friendly local police officer also knows all of this...Which makes me wonder if Smurf isn't setting Pope up because he was too chatty in Prison? Killing your sister-in-law you're obsessed with is a crime of passion and easy to understand.

Whenever someone says love is an ingredient I yell at the TV...try some better vanilla...but that's me...

I cannot stand this on reality shows...people need the money or they just want it more so they should win....every recipe has some heart wrenching reason. I have friends who always want me to send in an application for one of the baking challenge shows...I tell them I don't have heart warming stories....I bake what I like. I keep threatening to get a stamp to put on treats I give away "Baked with skill and relative indifference".

The main problem with her schtick is it will date quickly....

Between googling the age of consent in California and what amount constitutes possession with intent I hope the NSA isn't paying too close attention.

Pretty and dim isn't usually my thing but between this show and Vikings he seems to have a thing for strong slightly crazy blondes with control issues so it just might work out for us:-)

The biggest problem with Tregaye is what they are doing with her...ignoring some pretty impressive skills. I think she would be good at one of those shows where she ambushes someone at the grocery store and goes home with you and cooks the family dinner. I think she has the skills but I felt there was always a producer telling her to show us your personality....be fleekier....

Color me surprised...the age of consent in California is 18..... The weirdest thing is nobody here is traditionally likeable at all. I understand Smurf and her clan are broken for some very good reasons and J deserves sympathy. Maybe the male cop is a good guy and maybe the female cop has a back story. I kinda want the show to end this season....next week just end like Hamlet.
