We may be related....my family went from Lutheran to Methodist because GreatGrandma refused to attend a German Lutheran church rather than Norweigan. On occasion relatives go on about their dedication to Methodistism and I can't help but giggle.

I think Athelstan is just figuring out his sexuality....he knows he's getting a reaction but I don't really think he knows what to do with it? During his era people didn't have a lot of choices and he's ended up in a place where he has a lot of them. Monks were not people with a calling but kids sent off to serve, perhaps because of an apptitude. He accepted his position (including his celebacy) but with getting taken and going Viking and now having Eckbert and Ragnar battling over him maybe he's feeling his oats?

I think Athelstan is an innocent....I think he is playing in the shallow end with the Princess because she isn't a threat (let's be honest a threesome with Lagetha and Ragnar is the deep end). I don't htink he realizes he's leading her on.

If they play Lagertha for the needy chick I am going to be pissed. She can have fun with Ecbert....but I don't see her getting misty or playing the Norse Alanais Morrisette.

I imagine Athelstan smells like Snickerdoodles....no one can resist him.

I was thinking it might just be a promo shot. That's why I asked for a timeline ... how did this actually happen? After slaughtering the family and the headbutting Ragnar asks Lagertha if she's free later how about joining him and the current wife?

I can't imagine Aslaug or Siggy are long for the Vikings world. Ragnar gets another wife and I don't see her leaving him to rule her own lands. Same thing for Siggy, Rollo at some point is a grandfather so he needs to be a dad and that isn't happening with Siggy and given how she has stood by him I don't see him running off with someone else just because she's cute.

I am having the same problem....I would love to have a timeline. I checked Youtube and there is a funny interview with the guys who play Ragnar, Athalstan, Rollo and Floki.

I need to mix and match...Torstein looks too much like family. Eyefuck: Ragnar Headbutt: Rollo...I don't think there is much else in there besides the caramel filling Raid: King Ecbert...maybe a marine landing in the hot tub?

I think the mushrooms had healing powers for Rollo and Torstein was in on it (the glance after he ate the mushrooms) so he ate harmless mushrooms.

I think most of us are Team Ragnertha I do think this is another thing where you kinda have to look at it thru the lens of time and position. Once Ragnar was an Earl he has all of Kattegat to think about and he needs a couple of sons (heir and the spare). Consider that last summer the UK was just getting around to declaring that had the Royal Baby been a girl she would have been next in line. The whole crazy mess of Henry VIII was to avoid questions of succession. The whole mindset has fallen our of favor here it was a reality not so long ago. Ragnar strayed but early in season one conversations between Lagertha and Ragnar implied there marriage was more open, beyond inviting Althelstan. The divorce between the two is much more civilized than the times would have allowed. Aslaug was providing more children and subsequently provided three more healthy sons, which I think is part of the reason she can't figure out why people don't like her more.

Beyond any “attraction” to Athelstan I think he represents something more than both Eckbert and Ragnar are looking for….this is pre-Renaissance, Enlightenment, Shakespeare what have you. Eckbert has talked about the court of Charlemagne but is stuck with a son who is kind of an empty crown and King Aelle who thinks reading is for Monks. Ragnar may have less of an idea of what he is striving for but he is fighting the shortsightedness of both Earl Haraldson and King Horik. Both Ragnar and Eckbert represent the type of people who pushed and pulled society toward better and they both see Athelstan as a key to that.

The arc of Ragnar and Athelstan has been interesting...given the violent battle scenes it's a little surprising that I am kinda rooting for Ragnar and Athelstan to hook up or live in some polyamourous compound with Lagertha and maybe Ecbert?
