S02.E03: Murder In Plain Sight
MicheleinPhilly replied to Door County Cherry's topic in The Traitors (USA)
🎯 I don't know if it is just the editors cherry-picking clips to show us but he comes across as shady and nervous and fidgety AF. Like ALL THE TIME. And I don't think he did himself any favors with his roundtable speech. You knew you were going to get called out and that's the best you could come up with? "This is just my personality." I predict he'll get the boot sooner rather than later and I will laugh. It's always the ones that declare themselves as made to be a traitor that make shitty traitors. I also don't really understand his logic in making the murder decisions (because it seems to me, he's totally in charge of that). OK, you want to get out people that you think may suss you out, but you're also eliminating people who have been valuable in contributing to the prize pot. Don't you want to win as much money as you can? -
75th Emmy Awards (2024)
MicheleinPhilly replied to ProudMary's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
While the sweeps were predictable and a bit boring, overall I thought this was a great show. It moved at a good clip and I appreciated the reunions and some of the surprise presenters (most notably Christina Applegate and Marla Gibbs). I actually enjoyed Mama Anderson because I hate when people ramble on incessantly. I only saw a handful of those "so-and-so would like to thank XYZ" chyrons and wish more shows would do this/more nominees would submit lists. My favorite win of the night was easily Quinta's because I love her and Abbott and hey, someone who actually makes me LAUGH won a comedy award. As I said before, I love The Bear but it has no business being in the comedy category. Hell, I laughed more during Beef and The White Lotus than I've ever laughed during The Bear. How often does this Academy admit new members? Is it every year like the Oscars? I feel like some fresh blood in the voting pool would make things much more interesting. There was absolutely no reason for every single person that appeared on screen in The White Lotus to be nominated. I felt the same way about all of Ted Lasso's nominations (particularly in the guest categories.) Curious to see how 2024 shakes out given that several shows are retired/won't have aired and anything that does air will have a truncated season. -

I thought it was nice to see Bergie play the hero. I have no idea who he is but he seems far too wholesome for reality tv. -
S02.E02: Welcome to the Dark Side

I'm pissed that her shit stirring worked. I can't remember which of the other contestants pointed it out but that whole conversation was a huge nothing burger. I've only seen Trashelle on her initial season of The Real World (which is the season that caused me to finally tap out) but I can't STAND her. Is this what she does for a living - flit from one reality show to another to manufacture "drama"? And I get it - Peppermint didn't do herself any favors in the kitchen but at this early stage when they have no real evidence against anyone, I wish they would just focus on voting for people that are annoying. -
S02.E01: Betrayers, Fakes and Fraudsters
MicheleinPhilly replied to Door County Cherry's topic in The Traitors (USA)
I barely know who any of these people are so it's almost like watching a season of normies with a few "celebs" thrown into the mix. I felt like Kevin when Janelle was explaining who Bananas was to him. -
29th Critics Choice Awards (2024)

I actually winced at that "joke." I'm not overly sensitive about celebrities getting roasted (in fact, I actually enjoy it), but it came across to me like the writers don't actually know Ariana's body of work and that she IS a singer. I don't know. I absolutely cackled when Chelsea thanked the audience for laughing and attributed the joke to her writers. Never change, Chelsea. -
They were but I assumed they were just being little schoolboy shits. 🤷♀️ Now I kind of want to rewatch it to see how obvious it was/how oblivious I am.

I did not even notice this until they were in Boston and he was watching Angus skate. And even then I thought he was just plastered. 😁

It did not although it did have several nominations. I can think of at least 4 off the top of my head. -

I'm not terribly familiar with Jo Koy outside of him being Chelsea Handler's ex, but I do feel somewhat badly for him. These gigs typically come with months of notice and while I think a higher profile comedian could have handled him or herself more deftly, that crowd was just not giving him ANYTHING. Lighten up, folks. As soon as they realized they couldn't book a big name, they just should have foregone a host altogether. Lord knows the announcer talked enough for everyone.- 227 replies

I just watched on Max and it was 6 episodes. I don't know that I would necessarily characterize it as a cult. I mean, the councils and consensus nonsense definitely lean in that direction, but they were so disorganized and had so many different purposes. Half of the group are survivalists/preppers/conspiracy theorists while the other half thought it was just a perpetual Burning Man festival. And newsflash, you're not "off the grid" when you have smart phones and are streaming shit on social media. 🙄 I found the whole thing silly and stupid and I laughed A LOT. But I usually do with these groups.

The Traitors (UK) - General Discussion
MicheleinPhilly replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Traitors (UK)
While fans were desperately hoping the second season of The Traitors might land at the end of 2023, the BBC confirmed on 5th December that we can expect the new season in January. In a press release, they shared, "The Traitors will launch on Wednesday 3rd January 9pm on BBC One, and episodes 2 and 3 will be available on iPlayer immediately after. Going forward the show will air Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights." No word on when those in the U.S. can watch it, but if we're not going to have separate episode threads, perhaps we can have a UK pace thread and a U.S. pace thread to avoid spoilers? @SilverStormm -
The idiots in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have released the Golden Globe nominations. This really cleaned up. In the Musical or Comedy category. WT Everloving F????

I had to pause the show because I was laughing so hard at that. -
I'm a sucker for any and all cult exposes but my word, this one may have taken the crazy cake. I have nothing against free love stoners, but I'm perplexed as to what their actual "mission" was. I certainly didn't get any sense of it from their "Jukt Micronics" looking website.

I'll be the asshole - I don't get the buzz around his performance AT ALL. I've literally never seen the dude or heard of him before so maybe I'm missing something. But with the exception of the scene on the roof with his daughter, he made no impression on me.

Theatre Talk: In Our Own Little Corner
MicheleinPhilly replied to aradia22's topic in Everything Else
Saw the touring production of Company yesterday. I wish that I had read a synopsis beforehand because I was thinking, "These songs are fantastic, but this script is a mess!" Had I known beforehand that it was a series of vignettes and it didn't really have a linear plot, I think I would have appreciated it more in the moment. But overall I really did enjoy it. It's very funny and the music, as expected, is wonderful. Standouts for me were Britney Coleman as Bobbie, Judy McLane as Joanne, and Matt Rodin as Jamie. -

FINALLY!!! I mean, I'm sure it will still go until 11 but this starting at 8 or 8:30 nonsense has been horseshit. -

I was wildly underwhelmed by this season. Everything just seemed "off" for some reason. I'm really hoping they can rediscover their mojo for season 3 -
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards (2024)
MicheleinPhilly replied to BetterButter's topic in The Grammy Awards
The Recording Academy's continued embrace of Chris Brown just strikes me as gross. I don't listen to much popular music these days so he may very well be one of the 5 or 6 best artists out there, but come on...
