  1. This morning on either GMA or Today (I can't remember which), it was mentioned that Smith might be suspended for a period of time - i.e. not able to be nominated for a year or some period of time. They have to do SOMETHING. Marching up to the stage and assaulting someone during a live broadcast cannot be swept under the rug. I have to say that I think that the fact that Chris Rock has been silent shows some restraint and class on his part. Whoever is advising him is doing a good job. Will looks the fool. He only apologized after the Academy said they are now "investigating." An apology that no doubt was written by a PR person on his behalf. Even if he only gets a slap on the wrist, this incident will follow him for the rest of his life, taint whatever work he does.
  2. I know nothing about alopecia, but I have to wonder why if she is sensitive about it, why she didn't wear a wig (which she most certainly can afford a good one), or a pretty turban, at least for the time that she was going to be on international television.
  3. I think I gasped when I saw Tracee Ellis Ross on the red carpet. I don't know how she didn't have a wardrobe malfunction. I was scrolling through the internet at some of the other best/worst dressed on the red carpet and OMG - there were a few they were barely covered. I so miss the days of real class and elegance. I think a lot of people I know don't even watch the Oscars anymore and I am almost embarrassed to admit I do. It used to be like the Super Bowl for me - my wine and snacks ready - I honestly don't know if I will watch anymore. I really enjoyed Amy Schummer. She could have been the lone host and it would have been better. She was funny and looked comfortable. Maybe the Academy is going to have to go the route of rock concerts and place security at the stage from now on. I REALLY hope there will be consequences for Smith to have to face.
  4. Disappointed that Anthony Hopkins complimented Will Smith, who was smiling and clapping in the audience. Wow.
  5. He should have apologized to Chris Rock. I hope there are charges filed.
  6. I DVR'd and binge watched the first four episodes. I had never seen the Detroit guys. They are completely out of place. That sailcloth wall installation - my first thought was all the little spider-y things that could hide in the folds, not to mention the dust! Are these guys a couple? I can't quite figure out their relationship (friends? a couple?), having never seen their show. It seems like the red haired guy is the one in charge. The other guy seems nice but defers to the other one all the time. To me, they are so bad that I am embarrassed for them.
  7. I mute the TV anytime this commercial comes on (like it did just now). I HATE it.
  8. I was in elementary school in the 50's, in California, and I remember having to crawl under the desk for the drills. I don't remember anyone being terribly frightened, we just did what we were told, kind of like fire drills. It's funny, in the 70's these bomb drills became earthquake drills, same thing, crawl under the desk and cover your head. I DO vividly remember the Cuban missile crisis, and everyone was very freaked out. And I definitely remember seeing clips of Khrushchev saying "We will bury you!" on black and white TV. Now THAT was scary! Around that time, some people were actually having bomb shelters built in their backyards.
  9. As if you can't downsize and get rid of things in California. One of my pet peeves on HHI. People who feel they need to move out of the country to simplify their lives or have more "family time." I live in California. There are plenty of people who are able to do this. And they are going to need technology for home-schooling those girls, especially as they get older. Maybe they will go to private school there when they reach high-school age? Because in order to get into college, they will need college prep courses, foreign language, math and science, etc. How does a home-schooler do that out in the middle of nowhere? All online? How about socialization with other kids? I just see their children as being disadvantaged by moving to the jungle in CR.
  10. Hoda's kids crying off-screen. It was awkward. I confess I rarely watch this program, but one thing I notice every time I do is that Hoda and Jenna constantly praise each other, like "what a good mom you are" from Jenna to Hoda. Really, I guess everyone on Today does that, they seem to be part of a mutual admiration society. But Hoda and Jenna - it's over the top.
  11. Agree with all who have said that Maddie's reaction to Bill was unwarranted. I kept wishing he would say, "I just found this out myself! And I am here telling you right away!" But he just kept apologizing and asking for forgiveness. For what? This really has nothing to do with her. It will probably be a shock to the kids, but again, this happened a long time ago when Bill and Peggy were 16, right? Are the Sweet Magnolias books so religious? I really noticed all the preachy references in the last few episodes, and I can do without them. I do like the town of Serenity, and the Corner Spa is beautiful. I could see this becoming a series on the Hallmark Channel.
  12. We were on a Celebrity cruise in 2016 to Bermuda, she was the Captain.
  13. Also a waste of money - those Car Shield auto warranty commercials that are on all the time here in California. If you read the fine print at the end of the very lengthy commercial, it says "Not Available in California."
  14. I thought Whoopie was pretty rattled on the Colbert show. Clearly she realizes she has blown it. I can see her quitting. She mostly looks like she doesn't enjoy being on the show anymore, with the eye-rolling and fake accents. This must be a wake-up call to all in the media that anything and everything they say can and WILL be held against them.
  15. I'm sure there is more to Hoda's break-up than is being told. She makes it appear that it is completely amicable. And maybe it is. I just find it interesting that she said they decided they are better as friends. Did Joel also adopt the girls?
  16. I think Tara talks too much. She takes over the conversation. When they were talking about being raised with strict rules, Joy started to say something and Tara interrupted her. Anyone else notice Joy's face? She looked extremely irritated. I hope Ana comes back and fills in during the next two weeks.
  17. She left him because of his drinking and drug use, she didn't want Wolfie to be exposed to it. (Although she did let Wolfie go on the road with Ed when he was 16.) In one of her earlier books she went into it more, I can't remember the details now, but she said she also was at fault, I think there was an affair (her) and basically that they were both hurting each other. She says now that she thinks if they had worked through it they would have stayed married. I did see her post on Instagram yesterday, Eddie in a bathing suit. I don't think she realizes or cares that she is behaving inappropriately. I feel sorry for her. I get the feeling that she would like to wipe away the years she was married to Tom and play the grieving widow role now.
  18. I read her book and basically this is exactly what she said happened. When she addresses that, it almost seemed like an afterthought, not much space is devoted to him, just a couple of paragraphs. I don't see how any marriage, even a strong one, could survive her public gushing over her ex. It comes out loud and clear that she regrets that she and Ed broke up, even though she says they were not looking at getting back together. He was clearly the love of her life. I wonder how Tom and his family feel? I remember she had his kids on her show a couple of times. I'd love to hear his side of the story.
  19. What bothered me more was Steve didn't wash his hands AFTER, and started packing up the leftovers ... ewww. In regards to spontaneity, didn't Steve say that Brady and the girlfriend could come walking in any minute? Sorry, but the thought of my teenager walking in on that - in the kitchen - would kill any spontaneity. Why didn't they step into the bedroom?
  20. Walking into an empty apartment, painted white, and complaining that there is no charm, no personality. One of my pet peeves. Be happy that it's a blank slate that you can add your own personality to. And I agree - live in an environment that suits your needs, lifestyle, which to me would mean modern amenities, and then go out on the weekends and soak up the German atmosphere and charm.
  21. I read somewhere, not sure if it was in Laura Bush's memoir or maybe Jenna's first book about sisters, anyway, apparently the whole family loves reading. When visiting at the ranch in Texas, everyone goes to bed early and reads. Likely she has carried it through to her own family.
  22. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that Cynthia Nixon, as one of the executive producers, strongly suggested/insisted that Miranda's life mirror her own in this re-boot. I remember the Miranda/Steve reconciliation in the movie. As I have said here and on other social media, I like to watch the old episodes from time to time. I just don't think I will now. How can I watch those old episodes knowing how it turns out, that it's almost fraudulent, there actually is no happy ending. I honestly wish I had not seen any of the re-boot. Real life has been a shitshow these last couple of years. Let me keep my fantasies.
  23. The character Ashley Williams was playing REALLY got on my nerves. Too much goofy smiling and dialogue, and most of the time she seemed like she was on a sugar high or something. Tone it down!! I've never seen her in anything else, and have no idea what she's like IRL. I just know watching both movies, I could not stand her. I've always had a soft spot for Kimberly because of the Father of the Bride movies. She was also in a Netflix move a couple of years ago that was based on Dolly Parton's song "Jolene." I liked her in that.
  24. I think the fact that Anna is so supportive of Josh would be a huge red flag for CPS. She either believes he is not guilty, or she doesn't care if he is. Which would be her business if it were just about her. Unfortunately there are seven children who need protection. Those poor kids need to have access to therapy, someone who knows what it's like to have a father sent to prison for child pornography and help them navigate their feelings. They are no doubt wondering where he is. They have a hard life ahead of them
