  1. Do those Chinese genealogies list just the male ancestors, or the women too?
  2. Would sugar beets grow well in Britain? A quick lookup says they do best with moderate temperatures and consistent moisture, so maybe.

    S01.E03: Day One

Amy had brain surgery four weeks ago, but it didn't affect her hair, huh? It would be easier for some viewers to follow the timeline if they had shaved her head for surgery. Then her hair would be short now and growing longer as the season progresses.
  4. Farm equipment: Sign in a dealership: We stand behind everything we sell, except our manure spreaders. The contestants can see the scores. Where and what is the display?
  5. Speaking of having something in your home that could poison your pet -- Xylitol ("birch sugar") is used in some products for humans: sugarless gum, some peanut butter, some mouthwash, etc. Xylitol is poisonous to dogs and cats. Veterinarians recommend that people with pets avoid buying products containing xylitol, or at least keep them out of the pets' reach.
  6. Didn't Eliza teach Ivy to read just a few years ago? I applaud Ivy's progress.
  7. If you slice them horizontally instead of vertically, you can make round slices.
  8. Do Young Gabi and Young Lacey look like kids who would grow up into adult Gabi & Lacey? They don't to me.
  9. Week 19: 2/5, no *. Wow, I managed to get the only two non-* FJs.
  10. I have edited and indexed articles and books for a genealogy society for several years. My vision is not up to reading cursive, but there is plenty of typed and typeset material to work on.
  11. If the series continues until after the war, someone might suggest that a veterinarian who can fly a plane would be welcome in Australia, especially if he is good with sheep. I doubt the Herriots would move, though.
  12. Week 18: 5/5. Bringing latkes and all the trimmings.
  13. Still too much human drama and not enough animals, IMO. We can see humans on practically any other show. I wanted to see how they captured the alligator.
  14. Josiah Wedgwood, founder of the Wedgwood pottery company, was Charles Darwin's maternal grandfather. Charles Darwin married Emma Wedgwood, who was his first cousin.
  15. Maybe someone should have brought Alec a copy of The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey.
  16. According to this article https://www.iflscience.com/what-is-nobel-disease-and-why-do-so-many-prizewinners-develop-it-77532 Do you think Sheldon might develop this condition, maybe from frustrations in his research? He already made glow-in-the-dark fish; what might be next? Amy seems (to me) less likely to develop it, but we could speculate.
  17. Not only that, he used one arm to carry her, possibly putting himself and other humans in danger too. If he needs to take her everywhere, how about getting a sling or crossbody bag, so he can have both hands free?
  18. How do they choose which contestant gets the left podium when there is no current champion? For the Second Chance Tournament, do they go by how much money the contestants won on their previous appearances? Or is it a random selection? The people at the left podium appear to be doing especially well, so I wondered.
  19. I didn't see this episode, but I don't enjoy seeing people getting overly excited and celebratory about the value of an item. I'm much more interested in the histories of the items. My favorite was several years ago. A man brought in a large ceramic plaque and was told it was worth $500. He said something like "That's a relief. I like having it on my wall. If it were very valuable I would have to store it away."
  20. I got an email newsletter from WGBH about it. If you go to WGBH.org and scroll to the bottom, you can click on Newsletters; there's one called GBH Drama. I don't think they require a donation. I donate to WGBH even though I don't live in Boston, because WGBH acquires and produces so many programs.
  21. Thursday's FJ: the moons were named after some of Jupiter's many lovers. The spacecraft Juno, named after Jupiter's wife, is orbiting Jupiter. NASA explained: "Juno's name comes from Greek and Roman mythology. The god Jupiter drew a veil of clouds around himself to hide his mischief, and his wife, the goddess Juno, was able to peer through the clouds and reveal Jupiter's true nature."
  22. Week 17: 5/5 + 1 * Friday I didn't know Jonah was a prophet, but I knew the book was Moby Dick, so Jonah was a natural.
  23. I'll watch another couple of episodes, but it has the potential to become very silly. If it does, I'm gone.
  24. I was expecting someone to say they hope he will be a Jeopardy contestant some day, so he will experience how stressful it is.
  25. Please tell us some of the better options.
