  1. I do not expect the writers to be experts on the history. I do expect them to look it up, and get it right in the script. Some viewers know the history and notice mistakes.
  2. The interviews raise the question of how much the showrunners should tell the actors about their characters. Should the actor who plays Sir know whether Sir is a killer? Should the actor who plays Gabi know whether Gabi really has Sir in her basement? Knowing these things might help the actors portray their characters more convincingly. On the other hand, an actor might accidentally tell a friend or an interviewer something they shouldn't say.
  3. I'm in the same situation, including the cultural osmosis. I am sometimes annoyed when an antenna-TV station runs promos for shows on cable or streaming, but this time it was useful.
  4. When any f**tb*ll occurs, my local station airs Jeopardy later, when I am enjoying my nightly glass of wine. This week it happened twice, and I got FJ both evenings. Hmm ...
  5. The Most Shocking Celebrity Cousin Matches EVER on Finding Your Roots For those of us who have taken autosomal DNA tests, does anyone know how to find out if we match anyone famous?
  6. Week 12: 4/5, 2*. Not sure what treat I'll bring, but it won't have cilantro. I have the genetic variant that makes cilantro taste like soap.
  7. I don't recall a recent question about Henry Kissinger, who died yesterday. Long ago I had to go to an event at which he would speak. Before the event, I thought about what to say if someone introduced me to him. I decided not to say, "I enjoyed your performance in Dr. Strangelove." (I was not introduced to him.)
  8. FJ: "Crossing over water" got me a mental picture of a bridge. "Cambridge" didn't work but took me to "Oxbridge," which changed to "Oxford."
  9. Sweet potato pie: I made one once. It tasted just like pumpkin pie, probably because of the spices, but it was a lot more work. Can anyone suggest an authentic sweet potato pie recipe that does not taste like pumpkin pie? (I like pumpkin pie, but if I do all that extra work I want a pie that tastes like sweet potatoes.) adTHANKSvance!
  10. Some people say that any flavor of ice cream except vanilla in a root beer float is disgusting. I say they don't know what they're missing, and I'll take their share of chocolate. Week 11: 4/5, no *. There was a sushi question this week, so I'll bring lots of sushi. I can afford to buy enough for this group.
  11. If Gabi really has Sir in her basement (not her imagination) and wants him out, she would probably want him to be either (1) dead, or (2) in a vegetative state or otherwise unable to communicate, or (3) so obviously insane that the police would not believe anything he said. Maybe there are drugs that could do (3). Then she could leave him outside her house so people would assume he had been stalking her.
  12. Why can't we have separate threads for seasons? The episode to be broadcast in the US on November 30 is season 3, episode 7 "Work to Rule." Canadian viewers appear to be getting season 4. It would be much clearer to have separate threads. Thank you to everyone who includes the episode number and title in comments.
  13. An ancient Briton, painted blue with woad? (Whether they actually did is questionable, but ... )
  14. I had the same reaction, but I have second guessed myself into wrong answers too many times, so I stuck with Sinatra. Remember James H's recommendation of reading nonfiction books written for children.
  15. If Ken Jennings actually could give medical advice (as he joked to Nick), what problem might you ask him about, or what might he suggest?
  16. Another who first thought (and rejected) Murdoch Mysteries. I never heard of Succession; guessing it is/was on cable or streaming or something else I don't have.
  17. The turkey drop episode was based on a real incident. (Scroll down to number 6 or search for WKRP.)
  18. For me too. Good for Deanna! She chose her DD wagers quickly, and she's a fellow southpaw! Are there any statistics about left-handedness among Jeopardy contestants?
  19. Week 10: 3/5. Weeks 1-10: 35/50, 3 *.
  20. IIRC, Sam could not leap to times before he was born. Why can Ben? (I have not seen all the episodes of either the Sam show or the Ben show, so maybe they explained it and I missed it.)
  21. PBS interview with Nicola Walker. She mentions a radio version of Annika, 10 years long. How can we (in the US) hear this?
  22. Week 9: 3/5. Tuesday was painful: I knew it was Ethiopia but couldn't remember the capital in time. Wednesday I at least knew it was too early to be Lewis or Clark. Bringing 3 breadsticks (plus a basket of them) and appropriate dips etc.
  23. We could use Roman numerals, because there are sometimes questions about those. Breadsticks work until you're close to 100; then that doughnut (with a bite out of it) would work.
  24. The rest of Annika's team are unaware of what she said in the comedy club, and Michael walking out? Even if no one in the club knew Annika and Michael, the story could spread, and someone could recognize the descriptions of A & M.
